In this video... a tour of our evolving French country bedroom where I share the journey of transforming this space into something both beautiful and deeply personal. This room was originally a guest bedroom but has now become Josh's space as well. We made this decision based on what works best for us and our daily routines.
I also talk about the importance of embracing change in our homes and lives. Designing a space is a process and I want to take you along as we make thoughtful choices and refine every detail. From vintage Parisian finds to personal artwork and unique touches, this room is coming together in a way that truly reflects Josh’s passions and our shared love for travel and nature.
In this video I show you some of my favorite design choices, including how I distress mirrors for added character and how I mix French style with global influences. I also share a little about my approach to decorating and why I prioritize a collected and curated look rather than a perfectly matched space.
If you enjoy home design and the idea of making your home a true reflection of what brings you joy, I hope you find this tour inspiring. Don't forget to subscribe and join our growing community where we dive even deeper into design, creativity, and personal transformation!

My husband and I starting sleeping in separate rooms a couple years ago. What a great decision, now we're both well rested and I'm not harboring frustration that he kept me up half the night snoring! Love your content🤩
That is so great to hear. Sleep is everything, and it is amazing what a difference it makes when you actually get enough of it. I love questioning what really works instead of just doing things the way we are told we should. So happy you are enjoying the content. Thank you so much for the support and kind comment!!!!
Same here ❤
My other half snores like a freight train but he would take it personally if I wanted to sleep elsewhere. Tough situation.
I lived with a man for 25 years and we had separate rooms the entire time. I like old fashioned things, lace, quilts and dark walls. He preferred modern, bright, and Carlos Santana pictures up on the walls. He had had 12 surgeries on his right knee and went to bed very late and loved to watch old movies all night long if he was having trouble sleeping. I went to bed earlier as I had to be at work early. It worked for us until he passed in 2016. We had many friends who thought having separate rooms was odd but we tended to compromise on the rest of the house so when they visited we were in the living area and everyone was comfortable. Good for you and Josh that you are comfortable with allowing each other to "kick back" when and where you feel at ease. I don't question that you have done so but wonder why more people haven't thought to do so!!! "Vive la difference"!!
What a beautiful story. Thank you for sharing. It sounds like you and your partner created a home that truly worked for both of you, which is what matters most. I love how you found balance by compromising in shared spaces while keeping your individual comforts. Separate rooms can be such a practical and thoughtful choice, yet so many people still see it as unusual when it really just comes down to what makes a relationship thrive. Vive la différence indeed.
My man and I have maintained separate bedrooms since 2009 because of his snoring and it has been a game changer for us in the best possible way. In addition to us both getting to keep the hours we want regarding bed and wake-up times, it's allowed us both to develop meaningful personal morning routines before we meet up for coffee. Glad to see others in the same boat and having similar benefits.
That’s wonderful! Finding what works best is key. I love that it’s given you both the freedom to keep your own schedules and enjoy personal morning routines before coming together. So glad others are benefiting from this too! Thank you so much for the support!!!
My husband and I started sleeping in separate bedrooms in 2015 because of his snoring and extremely active dreaming-I never got a good night's sleep. We love our own schedules for going to bed and getting up but we begin the day with eating breakfast together and we now also make our own breakfasts too, eating whatever we feel like eating. I love what your'e doing in your home!
My husband and I have been married for 43 years. 42 of those years have been spent in separate bedrooms. It has always worked for us and I say don’t knock til you try it!
I love that! 43 years is incredible, and it’s so great that you found what works for you both. Honestly, good sleep and personal space can be game-changers in a long and happy marriage. I totally agree, whatever brings harmony is the right way! 😊✨
Us too! It makes such sense, as long as one has the luxury of space.
Divine bedroom decor.❤❤❤
Awwww!!!! You are so sweet!!! Thank you!
The room is very inviting and cozy. My husband and I have separate rooms and bathrooms, also. It’s perfect-sleep is so important.
Thank you so much I’m so glad you think so. Sleep really is so important and having your own space can make such a difference It’s all about finding what works best for you and your relationship
What a calming room--so masculine, but still inviting--very well done. I am inspired!
Thank you so much! That’s exactly the balance I was going for, masculine yet inviting. I’m so glad it resonated with you and even inspired you! Really appreciate your kind words. 😊
And yes, every couple gets to decide for themselves and choose what enhances the relationship and the individual. ❤
Absolutely! I love that by sharing this, I’m seeing so much openness and open-mindedness. It’s honestly so refreshing!
Room is awesome - and thanks for bringing up the topic "sleeping in separate bedrooms - and happy together!" So necessary :)
Absolutely! This is such an important conversation, and I’m so glad it’s resonating. A happy relationship is about finding what truly works for both people, not just following norms. Thank you so much for your support and kind words! I’ll keep diving deeper into topics that aren’t often discussed but that I believe really matter. 😊
You don't know it but we are soul sisters! YES to all of this!!! LOVE!!!
AWWWWW!!!! I love that, you are so wonderful to say that! I super appreciate the support!!!
Yep, the "his room/our room" is probably a staple in many households, including mine.
Haha, absolutely! Thank you for watching and the support!!!
My husband and I sleep in separate bedrooms since four years ago. Because I am a very light sleeper and have totally different schedules.
Love the way everything is coming together in your new home. You are a true artist.
That makes perfect sense. Quality sleep is so important, and having separate rooms can make a huge difference when schedules and sleep habits are different. Thank you so much for your kind words. I really appreciate it and am so glad you’re enjoying the process!
Separate sleeping spaces are game changing. Beautiful room!
Yes! Thank you! I supper appreciate the kind comment!!
Ahhh!! Love this, and your encouragement to others to create their own recipe for happiness within their relationship. 🫶🏻✨
This is especially important for couples who have been together for some time and are not afraid of exploring their individual needs (sleep, time alone, hobbies, ect) and what that looks like. The only permission we need is our own!
Yes! Every relationship is unique, and embracing what truly works for both people is so important. Honoring individual needs only strengthens the connection. Love that this resonates with you! I super appreciate the support!!!
@@AnArtistsLifeYT❤️❤️I'm excited to see and hear more about the process of building your home together. You both are such an inspiration! (In fact, your whole family is😂😂🫶🏻🙌🏻)
You've got pizazz Cecilia!
Not overdone and a touch of genuine spunk!
Love it !
Oh, I love that, thank you! Spunk with balance is definitely the goal. So glad you felt that! 😊✨and thank you for your supporttt!!!!
When I heard "firly", I thought it was a spontaneous cross between "frilly" and "girly". I knew exactly what you meant. Love your design sense.
Ha ha ha, you are so right, I was going for that :) I’m so glad you’re enjoying the design Thank you so much for your kind words
I truly like the furliness of the room...Félicitations!!!❤❤❤
Thank you, thank you :) You are the best!!!
Loved this, especially seeing the whole entire room. I agree with separate bedrooms (and bathrooms). People need their own private space. 🥰
So glad you loved it! And yes, I couldn’t agree more, having your own space can be such a game-changer. Sometimes, a little separation makes everything even better! 🥰✨
This video came in at the perfect time. I needed something relaxing to calm my nerves.
I'm so glad! You are so sweet!!! thank you for watching :)
OMG I LOVE your sheep paintings. I would love to buy one from you!
Thank you so much!!! I might add those to my online shop once I am able to sell here in France:), so stay tuned, and thank you so much for the kind comment :)
@@AnArtistsLifeYT ❤
Yessss! I want to see the process and hear the thought that went behind it! This room looks lovely. I too like a curated look! Furly: Frilly + Curly + Girly :)
Your room is beautiful, you are an amazing decorator!
Thank you so much! You are so sweet!!!!
Wow I am not alone in sleeping separately! yes a same here different sleeping patterns it was troublesome. We are Happy bunnies now lol. Love your bedroom colours and styling ,the house is beautiful!
Haha yes, you’re definitely not alone! Different sleep patterns can be tricky, but once you figure out what works, it’s a game-changer. Happy bunnies all around! And thank you so much, really glad you like the space! Thank you so much for sharing!
Haha, furly! You just took the word furl and made it an adjective, makes perfect sense (in Ceci-speak) love how this is turning out!
Yay, thank you! That will be your future room when you visit :)
You are my IDOL! I have no idea how you get it all done and so thoughtfully. I love that you question absolutely everything and are fearless in your pursuit of balance and 'done-ness' You know when you know and you don't give up on it, you just trust yourself to get there even if it takes you multiple iterations. You are the epitome of 'the journey not the destination'. OK well the destination is also badass! I am so proud of you for letting people 'see' the process. I know how hard that is when you feel something is 'uncooked'. I have so much respect for you and can't wait to meet with you IRL. xoxoxo OH, and FURLY is gonna go into my vocab!
My dear Morgan, your enthusiasm and encouragement always mean the world to me, thank you for being so generous with your kindness! I’m beyond grateful for you! And haha, yup, that’s so me, just out here confidently inventing words I swear exist. 😆❤️ Dying to connect in person :)
I agree. You said so well what is also inside me when I visit and watch. ❤❤❤

I’m like you Cecelia. I don’t like matchy-matchy. I want comfort & my beautiful things commingled in a pleasing way. I love the room! Very cosy & peaceful.
Yes, exactly! I love that mix of comfort and beauty without everything being too matchy-matchy, it makes a space feel more personal and alive. So happy you love the room! 😊💛
Oh my word - we do the exact same thing. My hubby is my BFF and I love him so much but sleeping together is not good for our sleep health. LOL. Love this! He sleeps in the guest room. When we have guests, he comes on over to our room. It works!!
That’s amazing! Same here, love my husband, but good sleep is essential! 😂 It’s great when you find what works. Sounds like you’ve got the perfect setup! Thank you so much for watching!
How lovely that you shared your new sleeping arrangement with your husband. I think a lot more couples would do this if they weren't so concerned about other people's opinions. And you also showed how you and your husband have great communication skills. I'm sure you worked on this over many years. And rather than getting stuck in old tapes, you pushed through and found a new way of looking at things. Bravo, to both of you. I have a feeling you have created new openings for many of your followers. I'm sending loving and peace-filled thoughts to everyone.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful words. It means a lot to know that this resonated with you. I agree that more couples might explore what truly works for them if they felt less pressure from outside opinions. We have definitely learned a lot over the years, and open communication has been a big part of that. I appreciate your kind energy and am sending the same warmth and peace right back to you.🤗
Well done! I managed to persuade my parents to have seperate bedrooms. Their life improved vastly having done so.
Well done indeed! Sleep is so important, and if separate rooms make life better, why not? Glad to hear it worked out so well for them!
Cecilia posted a new video?! Best way to start the weekend 🥳 I absolutely adore all of your paintings. Such beautiful detail!
That is so sweet to say. I am so happy you are enjoying the paintings. Thank you so much for your kind words!
Lol!! Continue avec la furlyness!! And yes... there is nothing greater and more beautiful than giving each other the freedom and the space to be in the house I agree!
Haha, oh oui, la furlyness ne s’arrête jamais !! 😆 Having that freedom and space in the house is pure magic! Best way to live! Thank you so much for the support and fun comment!!!
I appreciate this process video so much. I consider you a decorating teacher and observing the steps is valuable. 😊
You are so sweet!!!! Thank you so much!!!!
The best, sweetest & non chalant description of not sleeping together (to save the marriage😂 my saying) I have heard❣️ You are the greatest! I can't wait to go shopping...jardiniere's please...with you to see all the beautiful finds. Josh's/guest room is just perfect. Thank you so much for sharing ❤
Aww, thank you so much! I'm so glad you enjoyed it! And yes, jardinières, let’s go! I can't wait to share more beautiful finds with you. Thanks for your kind words and for being here! ❤️😊

Ay, qué lindo lo que decís! 😍 Me encantaría algún día decorar un rincón en Tenerife. Mil gracias por tu cariño y por ver mi trabajo con tanto amor! 💛
Hi! Bonjour! The room is lovely and I’m envious of the greens…💕 Subscribed. Jeni & Justin. ❤
OMG Thanks so much! 😊 I am a fan!!!! I just discovered you, and I think you are a gem, trying to catch up on viewing some of your videos, I love where you live!!!! Hopefully we can chat some time soon. Much love back to you!!!!
Great! I’m happy to have come across your channel too, the support is great. ❤ What region are you in? I’ll check your bio too. We are in the Hautes Pyrénées, 30 minutes from Tarbes which is the biggest city closest to us.
@@Frenchcountryfriends I am less than an hour outside of Paris, in a little cute village with 200 people, but I have Provins less than 20 minutes by car for conveniences. We choose here because our oldest son purchased an apartment in Paris, but now he moved near us. life is crazy. I still have a lot to learn about France. I visited many year ago Toulouse and Bordeaux, recently we traveled all over the Normandy coast but have a lot more to discover of course. would love to visit where you are at some point.
I like how you describe "I want things to 'live' with each other.. when it comes to decorating a room." Much better concept than simply color matching.
Glad you liked it! and yes I like things to have their own personality and collected look :) thank you so much for the kind comment!
Wow! This was such an encouraging video! Thank you for sharing more of your creative process and the purpose behind your decisions. I really appreciate hearing your thoughts on why you make the creative choices you do.🖤
Thank you so much! That really means a lot. I love sharing my process and the 'why' behind my decisions, so I’m glad you found it encouraging. Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment!
The room is beautiful! Thanks for sharing the process...I find "before and after" shots to be very intimidating.
Aww, thank you! When I come back to show all the updates on the room, I’ll take you through the entire journey, from changing the floors to painting the walls, so you can see how it all evolved. It definitely takes time, and there’s a lot of trial and error along the way! I really want to show that design is a process and that making small changes over time is totally possible. You’ve got this too! 😊
Beautiful room very warm and inviting. We bought a king side bed after the kids left home and we cold afford it. Best decision for us! knowing we are together but have the room to move during our sleep is heaven!
Thank you so much I’m so glad you found what works best for you we also have a king size bed in the main bedroom, (which I still have to show) and a queen for the guess/josh's room. A good night’s sleep is everything and having that extra space makes such a difference It’s all about creating a home that feels just right for you!
I grew up with four siblings. A room of one's own is the greatest luxury! I always found it odd that marriage and space constraints forced one to share a room. Exhaled air needs adequate room dimensions and ventilation to accommodate more than one human.❤😂😅
Haha, I totally get that! Having your own space really does feel like a luxury, especially after growing up in a full house. The whole concept of sharing a room just because of tradition or practicality is definitely something to think about, airflow considerations included! 😂 thank you for watching :)
The room is absolutely breathtaking as it is; I may need an oxygen tank when you’re done!! Felicitaciones por tu gran gusto!! 👏🏻
Haha, I love that! 😆 Thank you so much for your kind words. It makes me so happy that you love it! ¡Mil gracias por tu mensaje tan lindo! 💛
Beautiful room Cecilia! No surprises there. As far as the sleeping in different rooms goes, the fact that as a couple, you have an open and healthy dialogue about each others wants and needs and its received in an opened minded way is vastly more important for a strong relationship than sleeping on the same bed every night. Healthy communication is everything.
Thank you so much. That really means a lot. Open and honest communication is the foundation of a strong relationship. Every couple is different, and what truly matters is finding what works best for both people. I really want to encourage more conversations about questioning the things we do automatically or simply because that is what we were taught. There is so much freedom in rethinking and choosing what genuinely fits our lives. I supper appreciate the support!!!!
@ I couldn't agree more. Its just one more reason to love your content. So much to look forward to. Keep it up. :)
YAAS! The process is really the most important thing to some of us, maybe most of us. While not an Artist, I myself love to decorate, and am inspired by the process & ideas of others. I appreciate that you took the feedback and allowed yourself to be "vulnerable" with your incomplete space-which is stunning btw! 🩵 #furliness
Yes! The process is everything, it’s where the creativity and magic happen. I love that you find inspiration in decorating too! And thank you so much for your kind words. Sharing an unfinished space felt like the right thing to do, and I’m so happy it resonated with you! 💙 and thank you so much for the support!!!
Really cool Cecilia. I like how you paired the different framed pieces, especially the ones with chain. Your artwork as well as Josh’s are beautiful. I’m looking forward to your showing off your jewelry. ☺️
Thank you so much That really means a lot I had so much fun putting everything together and I’m so glad you liked the framed pieces. I can’t wait to share more of my jewelry as I am waiting for the correct visa to be approved for me to be able to reopen my online shop :)
Beautiful, relaxing room. You have lovely taste.
Thank you so much! You are so sweet!!!!
I would like to see more of the process as opposed to only the final result. You have great taste.
No worries! When I reveal the final look of this room, I’ll share the full process, where we started, the floor selection, and all the little decisions that went into it. This video was a personal challenge for me to embrace showing work in progress since so many people requested it. But beyond that, I also wanted to add my perspective on how we approach life, hoping to inspire others to reflect and question things if they’re not feeling truly happy. Sometimes, we just need to hear a different perspective to realize what’s possible.
LOVE this room, Cecilia...just EVERYTHING about it. Fantastic color palette! 😊
Thank you so much! That truly means a lot. I had so much fun putting this room together, and I’m so happy you love it! 😊 I super appreciate the support!!!

❤ Omg, the room is beautiful. I'm so jealous that your husband gets to enjoy it. There is beauty in the weathered and aged, especially the door. Great job and I can't wait to see the finished product. There is nothing wrong with having separate bedrooms. It makes the heart grow, founder.
Thank you so much That means a lot I completely agree there’s so much beauty in things that have history and character especially that door I can’t wait to share the finished space and I love your perspective on separate bedrooms It really does make you appreciate each other even more :)
Beautiful space. I love it!!! Especially the color. My husband and I sleep separately because of snoring issues and I’m a night owl. He’s an early bird!! Thanks for sharing

Thank you so much, Marianne! I’m so glad you love it, especially the color! And I totally get the separate sleeping arrangement; sometimes it's the best way for everyone to actually get good rest. Congratulations! The room looks fantastic and I love that you share your though process with us. I would be so happy to be a guest in such a beautiful space where everything has been so thoughtfully considered. Keep the content coming . . . it makes my day! P.S. If I may be so bold, I think the scale is off with the small painting hanging over the bed -- should be a larger piece, imo. :)
Thank you so much! That means a lot, and I love sharing the process with you all. And yes, I totally agree about the painting! It needs to be more prominent, maybe a different frame or even something entirely new, so good designer eye 😜 For now, it's a fun visual while I finish collecting everything for the walls. Walk-in closets? You’re adding them? How will you manage that, and why do you need them? Seems redundant if the cute wardrobe is doing the trick? Love your style - very nice and cozy with lots of texture! I see Brook Linen all over the bed, or something like it.
Haha, let me explain! The walk-in closet belongs to the main bedroom (which I haven’t shown yet) where I sleep. That room also has its own main bathroom which I haven't shown finish yet either. I know, too many incomplete rooms 🤪, but I am having to adapt. The duvet cover is from bonsoir www.bonsoirs.com/fr-fr/products/housse-de-couette-lin-lave?color=Ray%C3%A9+Carbone

wow! you're an amazing artist and loving creator! I'm blown away by someone who can visualize and create incredible atmospheres, environments like you do. Thank you for showing the step by step process and journey of how you put it all together! Thank you so much! Yes, I plan to reopen my online shop as soon as my independent working visa is approved. In the meantime, I’m working on updating my site. You’re so kind, I really appreciate your support!
Lovely bedroom!
Are you guys learning French?
I was targeting Portugal like where your son lives but changed my mind to France because Portugal is like 400-500,000 visas behind!
That’s YEARS to wait!
If you buy a house in Portugal and you don’t get your permanent resident visa, you must heave the country, then come back, then leave again!
That’s crazy!
I’m wondering about France.
They require a language proficiency test for permanent residency.
Thank you so much! Yes, we’re learning French. My husband loves it even more than I do, so he’s better at speaking it for now, but I’ll catch up. And yes, the situation in Portugal is far from ideal. I don’t think they were fully prepared for the influx of people, and efficiency in administrative processes isn’t exactly their strong suit. That was one of the many reasons we pivoted to France. You don’t need to be proficient in French until you apply for citizenship, which happens five years after paying French taxes. So no, you can absolutely take your time to learn! I hope this helps :)
Love your style. And your videos!
Thank you so much! You are so sweet!!!
Gorgeous!!!
Thank you! you are so kind!
We do that too. I think it’s very healthy who made the rule that said you had to be in the same room so why people got king-size bed so you wouldn’t bump into each other when you tossed and turn at night but when our parents were growing up they were double beds very small That’s great that you guys are doing what’s best for you?
Exactly It is all about finding what works best for each couple Traditions change over time but the most important thing is comfort and well-being I love that you do the same It really does make a difference in getting good rest and feeling good overall Thank you so much for sharing :)
Girly. Frilly and girly= FURLY. It makes perfect sense to me.
I love that! ‘Furly’ is officially a thing now, frilly and girly just needed a perfect mashup! Totally makes sense to me too! 😆💕Thank you for watching and the kind comment!
@@AnArtistsLifeYT great minds think alike L O L. I love your videos.♥️😊
Your rooms are beautiful but have you ever considered pops of stronger colour in your interiors?
Haha, yes! I kept the bedrooms and bathrooms white for now, but the rest of the house will be full of color (moody and de-saturated) and texture. I’m considering some specialty stenciling for the bedrooms, and maybe even the bathroom, but I’m still undecided. White felt like the cleanest choice with the wood beams, but who knows? I might switch things up eventually and give my husband a heart attack! 😆
Josh's bedroom is absolutely beautiful, it looks so peaceful and inviting for wonderful, peaceful sleeping. My husband snores, and we used to have much strife around that, so we have slept in separate bedrooms for around 8 years, we both sleep so much better now and wake up much happier. I watched a documentary about a Hasidic Jewish Rabbi and his counseling to young people getting married that sleeping in separate bedrooms would enhance their relationship because, as he said, "too much of a good thing is too much," "a little absence makes the heart grow fonder," and "can you imagine anything more romantic than the 'king' knocking on the 'queen's door?" I've often thought about some of the counsel the Rabbi shared, and after being married for 30 years, I can see much wisdom in it. -Change it up, go back, do whatever you want to... I love your wisdom too.
Thank you so much! I love that you’ve found what truly works for you both, that’s what it’s all about. The Rabbi’s perspective is so insightful; having personal space to recharge and miss each other can be a beautiful thing. Every love story is unique, and what matters most is creating a life that truly feels right. 💛
My hubby and I have had separate rooms for 30 years. It's great. We find plenty of time to be together. However, it's funny to see couples (guests in this case) expected to use one top sheet and one blanket. How silly. Inevitably there is a degree of tug-of-war during the night and someone loses sleep. Just cover two twin blankets with duvet covers and call it a night.
That’s such a smart way to do it! No more tug-of-war, just peaceful sleep and a happy marriage! Thank you for watching :)
