- Is the Tesla Model 3 worth it after 6 years? What about battery degradation and maintenance costs? We’ll take you through the highlights and downsides of owning a Model 3 these past 6 years and discuss whether we think buying another one would be worth it.
We’ll take you through some of the highlights of driving a Model 3, such as the electric drivetrain, performance, and software experience with awesome features like the greenlight chime and speed chime, overall UI and UX design, and the Tesla app.
Then we’ll get into one of the most controversial things about owning a Tesla: the brand’s association with its CEO and how that has impacted owning one of these cars over the long term.

When you talk about maintenance, don't include money you spent for a rear-end collision, huge potholes and cracked windshields - that has nothing to do with which car you had when those happened. How much have you paid in maintenance for charges that are unique to the car - parts that needed repair or replacement, issues with manufacturing quality, etc. I got my Model 3 in Dec of 2019, I have 72,824 miles on it as of today and I have spent $0 on maintenance. It's the best car I've ever owned.
Classic lying Fanboy. You need to change cabin air filters. You need to clean your AC system because of the design flaw. You need to change your tires with alignment. You need to do maintenance on your brakes. After 4 years, Good idea to flash your brake fluid.
@@alexsmith6271 Ok, you got me on the cabin air filters; however, my AC is fine and I hardly ever touch my brakes with the regenerative braking. Brake fluid flush is probably a good idea. All in all, by far the cheapest car from a maintenance perspective that I've ever owned.
@@unplugandplay9318 it's cheapest and i have 22m3p. But you need to maintenance your brakes regardless if it's an ice car or ev. Especially if you don't use it, do it before it fails on you in critical moment. I did mines last winter and I drive hard.
Just a heads up about Tesla vision - i would recommend you to recalibrate the camera in the settings. I did this recently and the AP/FSD features have been working great. Doesn't hurt to give it a try.
Doesn't work. I have 22 m3p same story.
This was honestly a great review 👍
Glad you enjoyed it! - Josh
Tell me what major companies are not involved in politics, like Apple, Google, etc.
Tell which of any major company CEOs are talking/insulting for any stupid thing about anything that happen in the World (politics or not) all the time on Twitter/X ? or any other Social Media/Network ? . "Involved" it's one thing ... to be doing PUBLIC statements about it, it's very different. BTW! the Model 3 refresh was cancelled, lol
FYI - You can check your exact battery health by putting the car into service mode.
That's a lie. Only if you do the test.

I share your same outlook on the future of Tesla. Years ago, I held them in such high regards, envisioning owning one once I owned a house. Now that I do, Musk's statements and behavior alone have made me entirely question the brand as a whole.
Yeah, its been incredibly odd to watch while owning one of these cars. What brand of EV are you looking at if Tesla is out? - Josh
Rivian seems to be headed in a similar, yet more mature direction as Tesla. I've also heard great things about the Ioniqs
His statements 🤦♀️what a dumb reason not to buy a car. The car is what is important not feelings...
I mean the cars are also objectively worse now
Cybertruck much?@@reply_off
His statement is the only reason i am thinking of buying a Tesla despite being a ice guy.... Free Speech all the way... Love Musk to take a stand against fascism!
Nice honest review.
You and I are in exactly the same place. Our cars are identical except color and the age and mileage are identical. My range loss is also the same at about 10 to 15 miles. I am really ready for a new car and would love to get a refreshed Model 3 but I have the same concerns about the future of Tesla. I may wait a year or two and look at other products like Hyundai and Kia. Those cars are over priced right now but they start producing them in the US soon and if they can get the cost down (and/or get the tax credit) I might go that route.
So is this the standard range, long range or performance? I ask because they use different battery technology
Nice video.
I took delivery of my refreshed M3 LR in March 🎉🎉 first EV. I absolutely love this car. I love the tech and minimalism they are both fantastic. I love having no stalks. The car literally puts a smile on my face every time I get in it. It is ridiculously fast. I will only buy Tesla. I do agree with your point of view as you do bring up valid issues especially with the CEO. There is no doubt Elon is a genius but sometimes he really should just keep his mouth shut.
Phoenix AZ
I doubt that I will ever utter the phrase "I love having no stalks." That is one of the biggest downsides in my mind: Lack of physical controls.
@@smileychess no stalks means you keep your hands on the wheel 😉
If a ceo says arrest me before anyone for opening the factory in covid period and openly shares his political views without some ceo filter, i would choose that CEO rather than some corporate suit.
I didn't expect your comment to end that way, it was a pleasant surprise lol
@@smileychess covid was a good litmus test for rationality
Are you the TPM Vids guy, your voice sounds identical.
Imagine your biggest downside is criticising the CEO, lmao.
Did you even watch the video? Tesla service is God awful in the last 3 cities I've lived in. Plus, he isn't criticizing the CEO; it's the fact that his impulsive and random decisions actively make our cars worse. The fact that this was your biggest takeaway from his review makes me think you’ve never owned a Tesla and that you’re just a Musk fanboy.
"It impacts how people view you driving a vehicle of that brand" Nah, for normal people it doesn't. You just outed yourself there. Can't believe you would think that is a normal thing to say.
Sounds like you are in a good position to do a model 3 highland review including latest FSD.
Great review!!! I would be more tempted to look at a Tesla, if I felt it wasn’t making a political statement.
I’d be rather perturbed by the amount they have access to you activity, who doesn’t like to break the rules and put their foot down 😇
North Carolina is it nice?
Yes it is
It’s can be quite boring but very beautiful!
It’s alright
No. Not unless you get one that is higher off the ground. The roads are not that good and you with mess you power steering a lot if you don't.
This was a terrific review!
Nice
My sisters Model 3 always has issues with the voice commands not working.
Thank you for the car review.
Thanks for your honest review. I have a model 3 on order and yes Elon does say some things which make me feel uncomfortable, however, without Elon there would be no Tesla and the associated other EV brands battling it out, not to mention Spacex and Neuralink.
10:20 must not be familiar with the business world because all CEOs are like this my guy. To be a CEO means to not be a good person. He is just vocal on the twitters, but the other ones are old fashioned and keep their horrible behavior behind the scenes. Not justifying their behavior behvaior, but the higher up the corporate wheel someone is the worse the person is or becomes.
This is less about how "good" or "bad" of a person the CEO is and rather about whether he can make sound decisions for the company. Musk has shown himself to be impulsive and reckless, which doesn't build confidence in the company or its product. Other CEOs do fine without trying to be loudmouth celebrities or being addicted to social media.
@@goldie819 you would be surprised. Most CEOs today are running companies to the ground. Majority of CEOs are laying people off right now. Why? They failed and are not making budget. My company hired budget paying my CEO his six figure million bonus package and now we are getting laid off cause now were broke.
@@goldie819again typical CEO behavior. Just look at Steve Jobs
Great review. Tesla does not sell in my country, but I would never buy a Tesla because of that CEO. Luckly now we have some good chinese choices (BYD and GWM) and many more are coming in the near future.
North Carolina mentioned 💪💪💪💪,
Tbh I wish I had a Tesla 😭🙏🙏, but good video bro
Here I was hoping my one experience with service there was an anomaly.
Oh man, the auto wipers.. don't get me started. Same page, same page...
Good review, thanks. I wish Elon would just concentrate on Tesla cars but I guess he feels differently, his choice of course.
Great differentiation between the appearently still good product and the indeed disastrous behaviour of the CEO.
★★★★★★
Normally love your videos but sad to see online political posts that don’t affect the product to change your opinion so much. I prefer the less bias videos.
He's literally running the company? And Musk has overtly tied his political beliefs to his business practices. Ofc you'll make judgment calls about the future of the company based off his behavior. Plus, he cites the actions Musk has taken as the CEO of Tesla in the video. Any review that doesn't mention the actions of the company when speaking about future updates, service issues, or the potential for future charging stations, wouldn't be a review worth a damn.
Musk fanboy is sad, waaah waaah. Cry more, baldy.
Couldn’t agree more about Musk. At the moment he’s the only thing stopping me from getting a Tesla.
There are other EVs out there with better build quality and companies that aren't going through tumultuous drama. Tune out the fanboys and examine all your options
Such as?
How is their charge network? Can i buy direct? I can agree that you can get better build quality but the charging network, minimalist interior, and the ease of buying is what sold me on the tessie
YES. Raleigh’s service center is the worst thing on planet earth.
Well it seems Elon's. "erratic" behaviour has been rewarded by shareholders who overwhelmingly voted for his comp package ! Elon, as probably the highest profile person on the planet had an obligation to speak up, politics is no longer just about taxes and foreign policy etc ...we're now at a point where our entire civilisation can be extinguished if the current cultural dominant views get integrated into AI for example...so yeah if you're so ashamed of driving a Tesla cos of Elon, go back to inhaling toxic fumes from your garage when starting ur car.
Blows my mind that he is holding the company hostage for $56B pay out.
Verge - "Tesla CEO Elon Musk could leave if $56 billion pay package not approved, shareholders warned / ‘This is obviously not about the money,’ Tesla’s board chair writes - presumedly with a straight face."
Blows my mind that he's doing that while actively weakening the company's FSD!
WSJ - "Elon Musk Confirms Diverting Nvidia AI Chips Away From Tesla
Musk’s AI plans have come under scrutiny after he threatened to take his ideas elsewhere if he isn’t given more ownership of the EV maker"
I guess we will see next Thursday when shareholders vote!
But would definitely recommend the Hyundai/Kia Corp for next EV. Very nice fit and finish and 800V charging. Switching to NACS in 2025 I think?
So agree about Mr. Musk.
I want to second most people’s comments to your video, Elon has greatly increased my confidence in Tesla and X as well as the corresponding stock. This says a lot more about you and your political biases, than Elon’s.
since when is being an asshole is a political statement
Your comment also says plenty about your political bias. And this is exactly the point! Buying a car should not have a political statement attached to it.
@@jsac3939 I have 0 political bias on this matter, his video is political in nature, he hates Elon because Elon cares about free speech and the Tweeter (X) purchase. Keyboard generation doesn’t like that, they attribute that to “toxic masculinity”. I don’t care who you or he votes for, vote for whoever you want, just don’t tell me about it.
Liberal rant lol
Stay mad broke ass, we’ll be over here enjoying our amazing rides.
Labeling people based on their opinions? Pathetic, but typical for you I guess.
@@ivannedyalkov yup i call in like i see it
After the marketing hype of EV the time now is to go for hybrid ones…
I think there is room for both.
buy a Honda civic from the 90s and thank me later 🙌
The EG is a plaform that is. Overlooked
For me, the “statements” you mentioned were an upgrade on my confidence in the company. Maybe you have a political bias but I don’t.
Trust no one but by their actions
You don't? 😂😂😂😂😂
If they are positive then you clearly have bias and if you don’t recognize it then it’s extreme
I noticed early in the video your arms are too thin, and you will face frailty as an older person. Please strength train. This is not to be mean.
I hear great things about the car but you don’t like the CEO. You aren’t a share holder so you shouldn’t care. That would be a dumb reason not to buy a great product. That would be like leaving a great country like the US because you don’t like Biden. If you care about the world and your health, buy EV
Ive got Aspergers and dealing with normal people made me psychotic because they’re literally like chimpanzees
This is a bad take.
It is absolutely worth considering the CEO when the super charging team was completely fired. That is the perk of Teslas! You pay more for a car so you have use of the reliable network. And the fact that that decision comes right after most other North American auto makers switch to NACS, AND Tesla opens up existing super chargers to other manufacturers would give me pause too. Why spend more money on a car without the great, expansive, exclusive charging network?
It's fully within his right to be concerned about the future of the product, especially after they already proved they are willing to deprecate the radar whether you like it or not. Will you buy another Tesla is a question of the follow through of the corporation.
@@jamesl1332not to mention Elon decision to cut out radar and pushes ahead with vision only is already negatively affecting existing product.
I am wondering which CEO is to beloved? In germany we had the diesel scandal, they lied, cheated and endangered lifes of people for profit. I see Elon as the nicest ceo of all car companies :)
Salespeople are often easily sold. Influencers apparently easily influenced. Allowing Tesla FUD points and CEO to enter a tech review is … Josh awake and awoke are very different things today.
