JD wa set up in the 70's by North Manchester duo John and David Makin. It started with a sport wear stll on Bury market. It grew generically and had an excellent team of buyers and designers who were predominantly friends of John and David. They all shared the same vision to be the most exclusive and freshest sports wear retiler in the Uk.
The rest is history. They got massive with over 150 stores and was eventually humbled with a corporte buy out. JD Isn't JD anymore. It was bought out and is now as inexclusive as Marks n Spencers.
I know this becuse i grew up with John and David in small town in North Manchester.

My dad was JD competition in the 80s and 90s, he was called Joe smith and had all the idea but no real business drive. He was the first to get fake/replica football shirts, he had a contract with puma and he put the trainers on the wall first and street wise sports wanted him to work with them but he was trusting off people and wasn’t ruthless enough.
He started on Bolton market selling wrestling t-shirts and had two shops. He could of been as big as JD or JS if he’d been more on it. He even created s blow up pig got Bolton games with the Bolton kit design on it that sold more than the clubs version that they copied off my dad. He got sued by them and is part of the history of the club. 😊

Aside from that though they barely have any sales on, when I came in for Black Friday they said they were going to put the markdowns on “later in the day” like tf are you out here advertising your Black Friday sale for if even your employees have no idea when tf it’s actually happening. So yeah, want something in a nice colourway you can’t find at Foot Locker? JD. Wanna grab something at a good sale price? Anywhere else. Pretty average store overall.

If your some Roadman wanna be who dresses all in black with your North Face track suit, Fake Canada Goose Gilet, Nike 95s and a balaclava, JD is perfect. I think people need a better sense of fashion rather than blaming the retailers, JD has sold the same stuff for years. Credit to them now, they've some Fred P and Levis stuff amongst others nowadays. If anything stop dressing like a kid in a tracksuit everyday n wear something else. A great example for trying to wear something different is to take a look at high street women's fashion, every season, every year its different, a little change, a little trend. Just need to replicate it to mens, because in all fairness men don't have the changing trends or fashion like women do as often. Get your self into a Flannels or Xile or Tessuti, definitely worth a look for something different.
