Summer after my freshman year of college I forced myself to wear glasses only until I could get a solid bedtime routine down because I was falling asleep with my contacts in so often. I was soooo worried about getting an eye infection! It took me about ten months 😅

I used to sleep in my contacts pretty much every night and wound up with a relatively severe cornea scratch and I want to say an ulcer as well. I had to wear glasses exclusively for about a month and a half. It was so painful and my eye was constantly red. Definitely not worth the risk.

I started wearing glasses in the 7th grade. My Sjogren’s symptoms have gotten worse in the last 15 years; because, of this I no longer wear any type of contact lenses. I could only wear gas-permeable contact lenses. My correction was a -10 in both eyes. In Oct. ‘19 & Mar. ‘20, I required surgery for cataracts, so the “bonus” is now my correction is -2.5 & -1.75! It is a whole new world out there; I can now see across the room w/out wearing my glasses! I am not yet a “seasoned” adult.

When I was in high school I would sometimes fall asleep in my contacts and then wake up the next day with my eyes feeling extra sensitive and swollen shut with nasty discharge coming out of them and feeling extremely light sensitive. It was total hell and lasted about 24 hours. Now as an adult, I make sure to always take out my contacts before bed no matter how tired, but the very few times I slipped up and slept w them I didn’t get the same issue I did when younger at all. Not sure if my eyes got stronger from wearing contacts for many years so they can take the abuse now lol

gosh! im experiencing the same thing for the first time, i donno what came over me last night that i mistakenly slept with them on then woke up this morning at 5 o'clock my the lens was kindda stucked to my right eye but it came off easily and was fine, i mean there's not much of redness or any pain in that eye but im over worried about my left eye i mean i woke up by it feeling kindda stingy and there were tears all over my eye so i obviously the lens came super easier than the other eye but it was shockingly red and irritated so i washed it a couple of times with luke warm boiled salty water and treated it with cold compresses for yk the redness but it's still not quite fixed im starting to worry
ps:good thing is my mother haven't noticed it yet. like im wearing my glasses and she was suspicious but i made sure she blames the soup for the redness not her daughter's stupidity 🤦🏻‍♀️

(this is just a random person's advice)
When you pick them up from the liquid, try not to touch the inside too much so that you remove as little liquid as possible. If when you put them in your eyes they feel dry then it's not good. Put them back in the liquid and try picking them up more carefully.
      Hope this helped :)

I sleep in mine every night and only take them out every 6 months. I've never had a problem from not taking them out. I've even had several surgeries and have not taken them out for that. Over the last several years my eyes have actually gotten better. They've went from -4.75 down to -3.25 and even my eye doctor thinks that's odd.

I've had contacts for about 6 months.. I probably have accidentally slept in them 5-7 times. One time I accidentally slept with them within 2 days of eachother.. I think it's safe to accidentally do it every now and then, but of course it should be taught to avoid it as much as possible, because the more you do it, the higher your chances of problems.

Thanks Doc. I took a nap in my contacts (daily ones) and it got suctioned into my eyeballs right before I decided to shower. So I am so happy I watched this video so I put effort into taking off suctioned contacts instead of making it worse possibly by showering with contacts (a big no no). I washed my hands then carefullly scraped a contact off one eye with CLEAN thumb and index finger nails, put on another contact lens so I can see, then carefully scraped the other suctioned contact out of my other eye. Hope this helps people.

If you’re planning on getting drunk to the point we’re you’ll forget then wear glasses normally when I go clubbing I get drunk and quite drunk even I remember but I never club to the point where I blackout even apart from leaving contacts in you can rlly get yourself in some shit😭and being quite drunk is enough anyway getting black out or just crazy drunk isn’t worth it but if I’m just at home and me and my friends are tryna get fucked I don’t put lenses in I just keep glasses bad get absolutely destroyed I still get smashed on nights out to the point where I can’t rlly control myself but I still have some kind of sense left in me to where I can take them off Before I sleep also if I’m going home with someone before we get it on I take it off quickly if not I definitely take them off after just drink sensibly to the point where you can still get crazy drunk but stay to the point where you have a sense of what’s going on even when you’re smashed to be able to take them off but if you’re going to house parties ur usually in an environment and might even sleep over there if your a student your place shouldn’t be too far from where your partying in if you live in dorms and even if you are travelling to the party you can stay over there but if you aren’t staying over there and u have to travel their like clubbing then wear contacts but drink sensibly or drink like a moron and wear glasses while clubbing but I don’t like them for clubbing I look uglier and it’s harder to speak to ppl but if it’s a Houseparty chances are you aren’t tryna get laid in general or won’t have to travel far and can even stay there and won’t think about the best of the best like when you go clubbing bad there’s a bunch of ppl u don’t know could even find a future bf gf there but a house party it’s usually more closed and you know most ppl there and can stay there or dnot not have to travel much or at all so you can wear glasses no need for contacts but if it’s a big party same as clubbing if your gonna stay over there or are planning on getting yourself smashed to the max and not get laid get anyone’s number of anything dotn care that even tho you can still look good you don’t look your best best bc of the glasses then wear glasses if not wear contacts if u wanna get laid or wanna just look ur best but drunk sensibily I do that for clubbing but for majority of house parties apart from select few that are huge like clubs I’d wear glasses and just lose myself in alcohol if not I wear contacts but if I’m going clubbing for the sold reason of blacking out and nothing else then personally I wear glasses cos I know I’ll not take them off

My husband wears the Acuvue Oasys , and he can wear them 6+ nights without taking them out!! I have “nagged” him to start taking them out at least one night a week. I used to wear the Biofinity, and slept in them a few times, but I had to have a bottle of Refresh on the night stand to use immediately. In the last year, I started taking them out every other night, but they were so dry in the mornings, so I stopped. I had my yearly eye exam yesterday, and I am now wearing the Total 1 Dailies. Of course, the first night I had them, last night, I fell asleep reading; when I woke up I was like WTH I can see! Then I started blinking, and found out why. I know they are “dailies,” but they were comfortable after the Refresh drops, my eyes were not red, so I am keeping them in. I will see how my eyes look tonight, who knows???

Hi Doc! I'm 77 y.o., and I've worn contact lenses since the early 1960s beginning with conventional hard lenses. Over the years I "graduated" through various improved and types of lenses, finally ending up with extended-wear lenses. I wore the extended-wear lenses beginning in the mid-1970s until 20 years ago when I had cataract surgery and no longer correction. I'm happy to say that through all these years I never had an eye infection or any other eye condition; however, I should say that I was always meticulous with lens cleaning and other maintenance. Having said that, if my vision ever required it, I would definitely opt for corrective lens implants

I don’t “sleep” in my contacts at night per say, but I do take a nap throughout the day with it and it seems like vita ones have been the best contacts at least for me to sleep in. I do not recommend for anyone to do what I do because not all eyes can take what my eyes can.

Have been wearing soft contacts since I was 13. I’m in my 40s now. Even when the “sleep approved” contacts became popular years ago, as well as the disposable lenses, I simply do not tolerate sleeping in them well at all. Unless I happen to accidentally doze off for a nap, I always take them out as soon as I’m home from work. If I happen to fall asleep w/ them in, they literally feel like they are glued to my eye and I work and work to remove them. Then, my eyes are very uncomfortable for about an hour afterward. Agree 100%. Don’t sleep in them - let your eyes rest and get the O2 they need to remain healthy👍👍

I just started wearing contacts in January the doctor ordered for me two trial, Biofinity Toric X-RAY and Acuvue, I have a really bad astigmatism (10 OD & 165 OS) Anyway the bio ones ate amazing, in fact it’s what I ordered. Acuvue, While I’m sure it worked for many other people but for me I constantly had blurred / tunnel vision Especially while driving. In fact today for the first time I made the mistake of falling to sleep with my contacts on and while it was only for 3 or 4 hours, Thank God I didn’t even realize my contacts were still on until maybe half an hour after I woke up meaning they didn’t bother me at all

I'm very late to this video, but for about 8 years I slept in my contacts every single night. In fact, I often wouldn't take them out at all for months at a time, occasionally taking them out to clean them if I felt any discomfort, which was very rare. I have no idea how I avoided having any problems for so many years. My eye doctors have always been equally confused.
I did have extended wear lenses prescribed, but I used the same pair - like the same 2 lenses - for years. I only went back to my eye doctor because one day one of my last left-eye lenses tore - they were several years old at that point - and my backup glasses were broken, so I needed something. It still blows my mind how (lucky? stupid?) I was to go through that entire time with no issues. In fact, taking the contacts out made my eyes more dry and irritated than leaving them in, which suggested to me that the lenses were affecting the structure of my eyes in a probably dangerous way after all those years. Nowadays, I wear glasses pretty much 100% of the time, because I've never been able to find contacts that are comfortable as the ones I used to wear, which have been discontinued (I don't think the brand exists anymore, my eye doctor mentioned they rolled into a different company). I've gotten new extended wear lenses prescribed, but I just have discomfort sleeping with them, or even a tiny bit just wearing them, which never used to happen. I have a pretty decent case of myopia, about -4.75, and mild astigmatism, so glasses really give me a lot of visual distortion which I absolutely hate. I wish I could be as comfortable with contacts as I used to be, but there you go. I'm considering laser corrective surgery, but I'm also pretty interested in ortho-k; I spoke to my eye doctor about it and he didn't really seem to like it. I'm not sure if he's pushing LASIK for commission purposes or what, especially since I think a doctor should take their patients' wishes into consideration very strongly when it comes to effective options.
I did everything wrong. I slept in them, showered, swam in lakes, hot tubs, slept, never changed or washed them for very long periods of time...don't be like me. But also, I'm still fine 10 years later. This was from about 2003-2010. I'm an actor, so I require contact lenses for my work, but I just use them during performances and almost never outside of that. It's too bad, too, since I loathe the visual distortion from even high refractory index lens glasses.
