My son is in kindergarten and attends catholic school. They had him doing first grade math by December. His friends attend public. We’re spending almost $500 a month out of our own pocket. You better believe I’m making sure that my kid sits down and does all his work and attends all of his assignments and takes every opportunity of tutoring that is offered. Meanwhile, our friends who attend public don’t really care if their kid misses class or homework. If it was free, I would probably wouldn’t care either. But it’s the fact that we are paying for it that makes us do the work.

I went to both a Catholic and public school but I perfected the Catholic over the public. I liked that the Catholic was more of a close kit community and the classes tend to be smaller and the teachers really took the time to help you understand the content. I also felt like they taught morals and values better than the public school. The public school did have better electives but I didn't like how some teachers rushed on and didn't really take the time to make sure everyone understood the material. When it comes to food, I hate cafeteria food so both the food sucked at the Catholic and public school so I brought my own lunch.

It all starts with discipline, something severely lacking in public schools.

I think people underestimate public school. I went to a public school and half my class became engineers, doctors, and nurses. Most people think public school and they think of the dirty trashy public schools with an average gpa of 1.0.

No they don't, but several Catholic schools are more goal-oriented and have more morals and less bullying if you go to a good Catholic School. Because all the students believe in God and the same thing, and it is incorporated into the school days. You don't necessarily get that from public school, I attend a public school and I am doing great, but I think that pain a little extra for a Catholic School if possible is worth it, as long as it is a good Catholic School... Because there are some private schools that can be just as bad as public

@@subscribee9792 I mean some people are brought up with good morals in public as well. That doesn't mean Catholic is better. Less bullying isn't all that great either. Public school means the kids will have thicker skin going into the real world unlike the religious schools.

@@subscribee9792 I went to Catholic school, and in my experience, I have to say in sometimes catholic school all that good morals and bully-free was all in the act. I wasn't bullied by students but by teachers. I couldn't actually defend myself against a teacher since had more power of authority. My friend had a similar issue with our teacher, she told her mom and then her mom told the principal, she was literally ignored and sided with the teacher. I suffer from a learning disability, my teacher never say it was a learning disability, it was just me not trying hard enough. She would tell me I was the slowest kid in the class and she would taunt me for it every time a student did better than me. I wasn't allowed to go to the bathroom, bc my principal caught me running towards the bathroom bc I really had to go and I ended up peeing my pants. I got in trouble for wearing chapstick. My teacher accuse me of cheating when I didn't and when I try to explain myself, she wouldn't let me and she told everyone in class I cheated. Also getting a wrong answer in class was one of the worst things ever. Since there was no such thing as "At least you try." You would be accused of not paying attention. I do rmr, as the time went on I just didn't raise my hand in class even if I knew the answer bc I couldn't risk getting in trouble even if I was wrong.

Another crucial factor is the behavior of students. Which this news report
didn't mention. Higher levels of learning are a fraction of the picture.

Except public schools will let kids get away with a lot more, and parents have to pay. Capitalism ensures a better product because if they suck, their parents will take the money away. Public schools don't care, and their controlled by unions who care more for the teachers than the students

@L. Johnson Hello I as a Catholic I am very sad with your experience, I can tell you that Catholic teaching is very prestigious, combining normal teachings with a formation of Christian values. Perhaps you have a very distant thought of Catholicism, which may have interfered with your experience. But if you can, would you give me the name of the school? (sorry for my bad english, i'm brazilian)

Private schools aren’t required to take every student that comes knocking. They can pick and choose. Is it any wonder that there’s a discrepancy? The difference is obvious from the terms, public, and private.

As Simone who went to both a private Christian school an regular private school and a public school
I hated private school we learned things from 4th grade but In Christian schools it’s better we get to know more and the teachers care for us I would recommend Christian schools

I went to both a Catholic grade school and high school and as one would find the same thing in public schools, the good students hung around with the other good students, those that were underperforming associated with others who were like them.

Ever heard Canada? It has the bizarre Catholic school system functions like a public school one found in Ontario, Alberta and Saskatchewan. Ontario is fully functional with 72 public school boards.

I don't if being expelled is too severe but suspension for whatever number of days would give a student a chance to learn their lesson and not repeat their infraction at a later time.

This is hilarious, this is a nice and financially stable catholic school. Go to a school in the Bronx or lower end of NY. It’s way behind public school standards. I’ve lived through hell with teacher who get away with everything cuz the gov doesn’t care/can’t do shit

What People don't understand is that Public Schools should not exist. Sure, there should be schools where anyone could attend. However, We, as a Country, should have evolved past the point educationally, where Public Schools as we see them today should not exist. Controversial, it may seem, but the scores speak volumes. Now, there are not enough Teachers to teach the kids that don't want to learn in the first place. Tax dollars wasted. Education, is a privilege, not a right. If you don't support your child's education, then your child should not be allowed to disrupt the education of my child. So, your child should be sent to the "Public School". My child should just be able go to school to learn. We are holding kids back by putting them in classes with other kids not there to learn, or are disruptive, and actually dangerous. I support having a great neighborhood school, but not if my child can't get an education there from teachers that are from the community. People not invested in the children they teach, for real, because they are your neighbors kids.

Sure it's good being religious and all and I've gone to private catholic and a public school but really public schools are the best. Sure there's more bullies but don't let them get to you it's easy. The lunch might be bad at most. But my current school is public and the food is heavenly one meal for example a dinner roll mashed potatoes and gravy with milk and a fruit and vegetable

Public schools are cheaper too. And my old catholic school had way more bullies than my current public school. And I live on an air force base so the only thing we have to pay for is lunch
