Bear in mind that this engine was almost the same as the one in the Pug 905 that won the World Sportscar Championship. Prost was not impressed when he tested the car and even told Senna so!
Just after 3:45 interesting to see the Circuit of Catalunya's layout in 1994, after Senna's death. Many of the circuits had "restrictor" chicanes like this for that year.
Yes, Canada had one in 1994 and 1995 too. If they did it today and Hamilton complain ( as always) for his tyres, the team can say that he can put four tyres of the tyre wall.
Senna / Forghieri were correct and again Ron Dennis did not listen and thought he knew better! Oh and Lutz the putz did not help... Lutz wasn't able to mentally grasp development side pertaining to engines and especially that of the Lamborghini engine! Dennis, Chrysler/Lutz missed huge opportunity! My opinion!
Although Mclaren-Lamborghini for 1994 is an interesting thought, I am not sure it would have worked out really good. The Lamborghini was more powerful then the Peugeot V10 but it was already of an old design, it was more bulky, heavier, needed more fuel and did not had a really good reliability record, even during testing with McLaren one of the V12's had a massive failure and it blew a big hole in the chassis. Also, the Lamborghini engines would have cost money instead of receiving them for free. I think a McLaren-Ford Zetec V8 would have been the better option for 1994 if it ever was an option I do not know for sure. Mika Hakkinen was quoted saying he preferred the Ford V8 above the Peugeot V10 in 1994. At the end Rond Dennis did the right thing going with Mercedes from 1995 onwards.

With hindsight the Lambo V12 would have been a better bet. But can see Ron Dennis reasoning with partnering with Peugeot. Giving Mclaren works team status for first time since 92. But peugeot underestimated what was needed to be competitive in F1 and boy did it show.
Maybe the Lambo V12 would have been more competitive in 1994 but I'm not sure. That engine was quick but also heavy, thirsty and not too reliable. Also, the Peugeot deal brought in a lot of millions while the Lambo option would have cost millions. Those Lambo engines were not free.
McLaren were highly competitive by the end of 93 but really dropped off in 94. The Peugeot was weak. Unreliable & lacked power. McLaren should have really gone with Lamborghini with hindsight. Peugeot seemed to lack commitment & expertise
Interesting question indeed. In my personal opinion, I don't think the Lamborghini V12 would have brought much more success in 1994. The Lamborghini V12 was already an old design by 1993 and not too reliable. It was heavy and bulky compared to the V8's and V10's of that time and was fuel thirsty. Also, I think McLaren would have payed a lot of money to develop the V12 further because the engine wasn't free of cost.
Peugeot seemed like the smarter choice at the time. Success at Le Mans where reliability is so important. But it wasn't. At least they made the right choice out of this failure. Getting Ilmor Mercedes engines. But then every bad choice wouldn't be made if we had hindsight before the choice instead of after.
