In terms of what could be adapted for a live action film, I'd LOVE to see both "Altantis: The Lost Empire" and "Treasure Planet" brought back with the CGI budget you'd see today. Get beautiful vistas of dark caves, beautiful watery temples, and marvelous cosmos and swirling colorful planets. Plus, think of the Disney attractions they could bring up! Disney Land in China has a section of the park devoted to Jules Verne and we could have that with "Atlantis", and perhaps a dark ride where you're on a ship, cruising through the cosmos to find the lost treasure for "Treasure Planet". You guys should read "The origin of Species" by Charles Darwin to understand the "Circle of Life". The lions are at the top of the food chain at the savana, they eat the weak animals and that makes it that only the strong (best genes) animals reproduce, even in their own society the best lion kills the weak ones to have the best genes. So Simba represents the best genes of the lions bcuz of his ascendance. The hyenas eat all animals, weak or strong, and that breaks the circle by itself. Mating with scar would break the lion circle too (and thats the reason why Mufasa should have kill him) but his understood that the females choose not to mate with him choosing to wait for the best male (Simba). That raise a few too many questions about who mate with who that the movie itself being for children doesn't want to answer.
I thought I remembered Nature documentaries teaching me that Hyenas were just as likely to take down large prey themselves (as a team) as lions, and often _lost_ their kills to scavenging lions (particularly pride-less males)?
You are correct. Lions are more likely to scavenge from hyenas than vice versa. Hyenas are really effective pack hunters with a very strong family bond in their pack. TBH I think the 1994 Lion King served to vilify hyenas for a generation.

"The Lion Sleeps Tonight" - Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen
Lion King 2 is a good film and works as a sequel. The main problem the film has is that it is a sequel to one of the best animated feature films ever made and it of course can't live up to that.
Ronnie Barzel They sort of did when they made “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” starring Nicholas Cage and Jay Baruchel. It was inspired by the Fantasia segment when Micky steals his master’s magic hat and the brooms come alive and act out of control.
Re: would the antelopes be talking to the lions as they're being killed to be eaten... Assuming talking lions hunt like normal lions, the typical killshot for a lioness is very much going for the throat. So, also assuming talking animal voiceboxes are in the throat region, they'd be unable to talk. If that brings you any comfort. ;)
Lon, according to sites like Nat Geo and africa-wildlife-detective (?) hyenas hunt a significant portion of their food and are not just scavengers. I do agree that the cartoon gets to take license and therefore can make them look more inherently suspect and that the photo-realistic approach should get dinged for the fact that if they look like real hyenas they should get treated as such. Can't track it down right now, but pretty sure there are sources that show lions are just as opportunistic at stealing prey from smaller predators. I also agree with Dan that photorealism makes fights between characters a bit more uncomfortable. Like watching cartoon animals in a stylized fight is fun, but the bears Treadwell filmed as seen in GrizzlyMan (an extreme case as they are real) is deeply unsettling. Aladdin had huge headwinds prior to the film releasing with those abysmal trailers and ended up be far better than the trailers had us fearing. Lion King had that circle of life trailer that wowed the animation and hit the nostalgia and ended up being as soulless a cashgrab as the faces of the CG animals it depicts.
@@hindsightpov4218 The worst part is that Disney does not see this as a mess up since it made so much money. Now we can expect them to keep cranking out these lifeless remakes until they start remaking the remakes :-(
He's got that iron man money, now he just rolls into Disney and goes "I need a copy of an old script and an army of graphic designers, I'll be back with a bunch of money"
I can tell what my dog is thinking or feeling by looking at her. Animals do have and show emotions but the people making this just didn't get it. It's not just moving the mouth which a lot of shots appeared to be. Dare I mention the classic Robin Hood? A mo-cap version of that keeping the animals could be interesting.
I’d be ok with them going a live action Kingdom of the Sun (which is what The Emperor’s New Groove was originally going to be before it was rewritten into a llama buddy comedy). You can keep the characters the same, just use the original story about Yzma wanting to summon the Incan god of darkness to block out the light of the sun.
The Lion Guard goes more into the duties of the king and shows that there are good and bad hyenas. I know that goes beyond what you'd get from the movie though.
Has there been ANY actual confirmation that that "Mulan" won't be a musical, from official sources? Niki Caro (director) said back in 2017, before they even started pre-production, that it wasn't going to be, and Sean Bailey at Disney backed her up saying it wasn't planned to be, but then he added that "nothing is off the table." They didn't show the songs in the trailer, but perhaps they're holding things back and everyone is just holding on to a comment that was made nearly 3 years ago before the first nail was drive on the set or the first stitch of a costume was ever sewn. It may well be that all the speculation is correct, that it's NOT a musical, but it really seems weird that everyone is taking ANYTHING said in Hollywood as the gospel truth. That'st almost as insane as believing a politician.

6. "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" - Billy Eichner, Seth Rogen
They should of just said "be shaw not to miss next week's episode" 😉
The voices were flat and the songs didn’t have the same feeling.
Watching lion king is like watching a lion documentary
No lion documentaries are way more interesting. Check out national geographic wild
When kid Simba and Nala were playing I was like, "I literally see this everyday when my cats play."
Lion King 2 is a good film and works as a sequel. The main problem the film has is that it is a sequel to one of the best animated feature films ever made and it of course can't live up to that.
I'm curious to see what a "live-action" version of Fantasia could look like if they approached it with the creativity of the original.
Ronnie Barzel
They sort of did when they made “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” starring Nicholas Cage and Jay Baruchel. It was inspired by the Fantasia segment when Micky steals his master’s magic hat and the brooms come alive and act out of control.
Animated for "Can you feel the love tonight" goes from sunset to night
Re: would the antelopes be talking to the lions as they're being killed to be eaten... Assuming talking lions hunt like normal lions, the typical killshot for a lioness is very much going for the throat. So, also assuming talking animal voiceboxes are in the throat region, they'd be unable to talk. If that brings you any comfort. ;)
Why, why does a life size cut out of Slipknot from Suicide Squad EVEN EXIST for Lon to purchase?!!!!
Wait what? They don't have music in Mulan? The songs are some of the best things about that film!
Nat H. They were probably talking about the upcoming live-action remake, which will not have any of those great songs.
From the clues, I'm assuming its Hobbs and Shaw.
I honestly expected more from Jon Favreau.
Especially since the Jungle Book was so enjoyable and actually had emoting animals
Athens K.
I know! That’s why I was so surprised he messed up so badly with Lion King.
@@hindsightpov4218 The worst part is that Disney does not see this as a mess up since it made so much money. Now we can expect them to keep cranking out these lifeless remakes until they start remaking the remakes :-(
fangal12 Well, a remake is what this remake needs 😂
He's got that iron man money, now he just rolls into Disney and goes "I need a copy of an old script and an army of graphic designers, I'll be back with a bunch of money"
Timon & Pumba were singing “The Lion sleeps tonight” during the day
Regarding the discussion around minute 6 about what else Disney can remake here’s a totally off the wall idea: maybe create something new!?!
"But they made room for Beyonce singing. And poop."
In other words, they just made room for a whole lot of poop.
Spotted hyenas do actually kill stuff, that and lion are actually fierce competitors,
You know... if they did the Lion King with voice over and no animal talking... I'd dig it.
Spencer said the first shot is incredible!.....which was the only live action and not CG shot in the entire movie!
FWIW, I would've loved to see the broadway version on screen.
Will you please sing, “Doctor, doctor, gimme the news, I gotta bad case of lovin’ two.” Like the Applebee’s commercial
