- "Dominique" (also known as "Dominique Is Dead") is a 1978 British film directed by Michael Anderson. The film is based on the 1948 short story "What Beckoning Ghost" by Harold Lawlor.
Greedy David Ballard (Cliff Robertson) wants to get the money of his wife Dominique (Jean Simmons), so he attempts to drive her insane. He succeeds and she hangs herself, only to come back to haunt him from the afterlife.

Never could figure out how women in these old stories (and even modern ones) were/are so terribly DESPERATE to stay married to a man, even though he clearly hates them. I wouldn't want to be anywhere NEAR someone who loathed my very presence.

I wondered that myself until I learned that, at least in the U.S., women were not allowed to have bank accounts in their own name until the 1960's and single women couldn't have credit until the 1970's. If you needed to stay married to survive, you'd put up with cruelty and neglect, even if you'd be better off divorcing your uncaring spouse.
Women were denied education until the early 70s. So women felt to hold on to their so called men .. Their parents taught non sense to their girl's children. Raised thinking wrong.
Guilty of not wanting them to be a burden for their parents after their over 18..years old
Sad..but true.
Olden days it was to survive for financial reasons. These men knew it too.
You can tell how 70’s a movie is by how loud the shoe sounds are. Love it!! Great movie. :)

Cliff Robertson as, the bad guy🤨??? That's a first. Cliff is for the most part always, the decent fellow. He's either Uncle Parker (Tobey Maguire's, 'Spider-Man', Uncle Parker), or innocent people like Charley ('Flowers For Algernon'). I was very surprised, to see him portray, bad😔.
Deep down actors love playing bad. Maybe not all that deep down
This is a wonderfully creepy ghost story. I love the haunting piano piece, the dream-like colors when the ghost and bodies are on screen, and how the husband slowly goes crazy before his "accident." They don't make them like this anymore.

So many fine actors and the gorgeous Jenny Agutter. Unfortunately, the script, the editing and the direction were poor and the film ended up as a bit of a mess.

an enthralling movie I don't recall seeing ever before.really enjoyed it.but definitely much more a murder mystery rather than an actual Horror.
