    Chris I love your realization of how hunting is evolving. Sad deal how money is so involved. I have tried my best to get land for my kids to hunt. Hopefully my grandkids will be able to hunt as they grow old. See you and Kaitlynn again at the Iowa deer classic. Your view of the LA of the deer world is definitely keeping it REAL. Stay grounded and keep thinking of others. It will pay off in the long run.

    I totally agree w/ chris bee on uping the poundage and coming down on the arrow weight. I also hunt western south dakota so the benefit of a flatter arrow and more forgiving is more of a priority than 2% more kinetic energy for a higher arching arrow. I'd be intersted to see you test the setup that chris is talking about this year and come back with your findings on another podcast!

    Have 320 acres in the Flint Hills in Kansas (out of state), and I believe the way Kansas does it these days is great for not just the hunting but the aging of whitetail. Im seeing more and more mature bucks every year.. i do wish the state would give land owners a cull tag though.

    1:40...Chris I believe is right on about speed vs weight. I experimented on hard foam target with Identical broadheads, 68lbs, 340 spine and 200 spine, 440g to 727g. It was surprising that the arrows penetrated the new hard foam target nearly identical. The chrono results were 275fps and 220fps. I found that to be amazing, so Chris is right on. Those were both extremes, I tried everything in between.

    I would say to have that extra distance from a 400-500 grain arrow and higher poundage would be more important than a 600-700 grain arrow because what if the chance of a lifetime was just 10-15 yards to far for that massive arrow

    When we all start out hunting it’s with a gun of some kind and get told right behind the front shoulder that works, with a stick and string you allow for slightly off I’m 60 started bow hunting at 20 and took a few years to realize it’s always different shooting at the real animal than a target you can’t duplicate that on a range . Nerves e make you do crazy things!

    Yall keep bringing up the topic of less ground/more hunters. Wanna add more huntable ground and improve the health of the deer herd? Water quality and flood mitigation projects seem go be the best chance and have the highest impact on a large scale. Hunters are already responsible for protecting the a good chunk of the remaining fragments of natural habitat in ag country

    @parker456 2 месяца назад

    I shoot a white-tail at 25 yards with a 60lb phase 4 and a 370-380 grain arrow and a G5 deadmeat. perfect shot went right through, blood sprayed everywhere and deer dint go 20 yards. just another example for the people still contemplating there arrow!

    Much respect to Mr. Bee, nothing against him, but I respectfully disagree about the arrows. It seems to me fairly obvious that a heavier projectile (flying straight and accurate) is going to be harder to stop all else equal. And if it’s harder to stop, it’s going to go further thru whatever it hits. I did a water jug penetration test and that’s exactly what my test showed. But at the end of the day everyone’s gotta do what they gotta do.
    Great pod. Sub’d

    • @PoorManGarage
      @PoorManGarage 2 месяца назад

      No one says it doesn’t have more momentum. But the higher chance of misread misses are a thing to keep in mind. As weight goes up there are deminishing returns. Once you break about 480gr the penetration doesn’t increase nearly as fast. You start to plateau the gains fairly quickly

    • @paulheberling2750
      @paulheberling2750 2 месяца назад

      @@PoorManGarage that’s what I was referring to. An arrow of 800-1,000 grains is going to have significantly more momentum than a 480, it’s not even gonna be close, and yet will drop more for sure but that can be an advantage since when the deer jump the string they usually go down first. But I hear what you’re saying. I wouldn’t go out past 40 with arrows that heavy tho.

    I think that the hunting community on RUclips has been positive to promote hunting and making manufacturers get better. I started watching Midwest Whitetail and the Drury's then THP and found Chris Bee and Kaitlyn Maus in 2020. I love these channels except Midwest Whitetail changed so I watch Bill Winke now. I stopped watching the Drury's because of the whole BIG farm concept was not relevant to me. To be honest the Kansas Chris Bee buck is one of the top videos. Kaitlyn's swoops wow! Also I wrecked my shoulder in TaeKwonDo so I have to use a crossbow or don't hunt, no brainer! My wife is from Howell Michigan just up the street from Hartland! I am from Northern Michigan.

    hitting where you aim well of course but did the animal get that memo to pose for the shot, come on these animals move and move pretty fast. again best shot turns into not a great shot and I would keep your 900 grain arrow that thing will be crazy with a sharp cut on contact head there is a video of a woman hitting I think a bison with some crazy heavy arrow and 35-40 pound bow zips through that thing like butter at 20 yards my 3D bow shoots my target arrow 428 grians in the same spot as my hunting arrow of 550 grains its not even an inch off past that yea it drops off but thats why we site in and have a range finder

    You say you want new kids getting into hunting but at the same time you drive up the price by leasing all private land. Not really room on public or people can't afford to drive to public hunting land. Plus over hunted land the chances drop. Kids are not wanting to hunt if theirs no animals

  • @colinmitchell3213

    Loved the podcast but Chris is wrong about the arrows and the heavy high FOC arrows with a fixed single bevel broadhead and their affect are not conjecture. The Ashby studies are extensive and well documented. Pass throughs on Cape Buffalo with 45 lbs recurve bows would not be happening with light arrows and expandable broadheads on a regular basis.
    Chris claims that the Ranch Fairy etc don't know, but compared to Dr Ashby's studies, what does Chris know? He has nowhere near the experience.

    love chris but his arrow choice is shit give me 550 grains for deer all day long flys fast out of my bow 285 fps out of 79 pounds 29 inch draw mathews even if it was slower they work way better ive been hunting as long as chris has been alive and killed way more deer then him I went the fast light arrows and mech. broadheads after many many non pass throughs and failed broadheads went to a more heavy arrow and a cut on contact head now I dont have that issue and he can say its shot placement but deer move so you can make the best shot in the world but when that animal moves your perfect shot is now a bad shot or a hard bone shot my arrow will still do the job his might or might not I will take my arrow over his anyday and the drop is a non issue thats been proven and the KE is more at 50 then his at 20 also proven. wonder how we killed deer with our old slow bows and we did it well if your shooting deer at 60 yards then you suck at bow hunting and need help or get a gun..
