We are in our 3rd year of Into Reading and yes, it’s a lot…many manuals and if your districts purchases them, many workbooks! We’ve put a lot of work into recreating slides to fit our flow of the day which helps. Writing has been a struggle, so I’m really interested in hearing what you think after the first few weeks!
Thanks for sharing your classroom. This is my second year with Into Reading, and I find that it is a huge amount of information to manage. I loved the flow of your slides. Where did you find those?
This is our first year of Into Reading and we are getting into a groove, but I'm looking forward to hearing your take. Personally I like Fundations better for phonics, but I like the literature choices and all the options for small group instruction from HMH. It takes a lot of work to figure it all out though!
Always love to see what you and your kiddos are up to! Might have been asked but where did you get those magnets for the days of the week and the schedule? I use so many of your resources and they are aways just what my kids need! Thanks!
Susan, can you please explain or make a video about what the students do after they add the new sight word to their writing journal? Do they write sentences with them, or is it just a reference tool? Thanks!
My school district also uses HMH Into Reading - 3rd year now. I don’t like the writing part of their program. I was wondering if you’re using your own units of writing? I’m thinking of purchasing the first grade bundle and just ditch the Into Reading.
We have Into Reading. I don't look at the manuals because they are overwhelming. I just look at it online. I am curious to hear your opinion. My problem is there are so many resources to use not enough time to get to it all. Yes no letter tiles, I had to get a set from Lakeshore. We still miss Heggerty at our school I think that program was much better.
Hi Susan, EL has multiple components, the modules, skills block, and labs. The modules of EL is not a "reading" program. It is more for close reading and writing. My school only uses the modules. We also do Heggerty and Fundations, as well as decodables, for our ELA. The skills block is the reading component of EL. I've been teaching with EL for the past 5 years in 2nd grade in NYC and teachers definitely need to supplement the modules to make it more engaging and to provide support to all learners. Many districts across the city have been using HMH since last year and I've heard not great reviews. Looking forward to your take on it.
Hi! Yes, that is correct! We were using Fundations and Heggerty as our main "reading" components, I was overgeneralizing. We piloted only the Modules for our knowledge building and comprehension strand. We didn't find that it was sufficient enough! I'll be interested to see how HMH goes too!
I would love to hear how you're using Into Reading in your class. I'm a first year teacher and our district just implemented it. I'm struggling with figuring out how to make it work for my class.
Hey Susan, I’m also learning from the stretch Into Reading; it’s a lot indeed! I love this video and your insights -as always! I wonder where did you get those (really cool) teaching slides?
Susan, If I could only be a fly on the wall in Your Classroom to see what it was like teaching on and after Halloween. Anyhow, Way to go with the whole "Peaceful Spot" thing having them thinking about what they could do when they get mad or sad especially when kids don't have as much choice in their lives as the adults do even in a free country in which we are living in. Hi Susan, I love watching your vlogs. Thank you for making the time to make them!
Hi Susan! Love all of your ideas. Curious about the screens you use for the auditory drill. I want some for my classroom! Where can I find them?

@@allysonward2623 Yes the writing is a struggle with this program.
@@JillMRodriguezI agree, writing is a challenge with this program! Not easy to say the least!

I joined a first grade Into Reading Facebook group and people were sharing them there!
Yes it’s a lot of information. But of course not a lot of time within the block period
Do you know who made them? I’m in many groups and can’t find this version. I love it seems so clear to follow
