Most Dangerous Trail In Colorado | Black Bear Pass in a Toyota Tacoma

- Опубликовано: 21 окт 2020
- Today we tackle one of the most dangerous off road trails in Colorado. Black Bear Pass is a notorious jeep road trail that starts from 11,018-foot summit of Red Mountain Pass on U.S. Highway 550 to Telluride, Colorado. I’m absolutely impressed on how my Toyota Tacoma performed.
Enjoy!

Did this trail in a Toyota Trecel…. It’s an easy drive just steep cliffs.
Yes, low cog vehicles are better. All the snowflakes driving their nuttly lifted trucks get nervous due to the cabin tilt from their high cog vehicles, and from disconnecting their sway bars - what did they think would happen ?
@@nordic5490 Just triggered you cannot afford a real 4WD??? 🤣🤣🤣
@@94Elantra he's saying you can conquer the trail in a fwd car. No need to insinuate the man is poor
Calling bs on doing this trail in a tercel, you may have driven up from the telluride side to the waterfall, that is not the 4x4 trail you dud not drive over the stairs in a tercel without serious body damage
@@ChicanoOne760 Perhaps you need to review who I was reply to.
Dad took me, my brother and mom down this trail for a family jaunt about 15 years ago in an old 1970's jeep. He didnt tell us what to expect until we got there and handled the trail like an old pro. Love you dad
Was he also working for Toyota and had all his gear paid for and producing 30 minute commercials for Toyota?
@@noname-zg8lh "an old 1970s Jeep". Your comment would probably be better as a response to a different post bro. Not sure what the relevance of it is here.
My god, this is the first overlanding channel I've found that doesn't play nauseating music. Thank you!
c0linh20house2 thank you for watching!
Frrrr
@@bustabeatgeorge full size duel cab rigs been down there. plus. hope you have a manual. not auto. death traps down hill..
Except there is nauseating music…
Did I just hear “my old school mexican tiger blanket”? Hell yeah, man. You know your stuff.
We call it cobija "San Marcos" the company went out of business years ago now they make knock offs
Just got back from Colorado went through Independence pass wich is nothing compared to Black Bear Pass lol
Overlanding is just getting to a hunting spot, without the hunting
If you bring guns it could be
We do this in our Mini Van while hunting lol 😆
Ha! Amen. That is all I could think of while watching this. I hunt 561 in CO and there are plenty of goofy roads with sharp turns, steep drops, and high vistas. These fellas were pretty conservative and hugging sides. Badass view on this fun road however!
I hunt with my camera, flowers and butterflies. I was drawn to this video to verify how as an inexperienced driver I can access the alpine habitat. If you want to understand how this is analogous to hunting, read Hemingways "Green Hills of Africa" where the rifle is just his excuse to get out into nature and observe; it's not about pulling the trigger. Also captured by Sean Penn here: ruclips.net/video/JfjkiTB1fHQ/видео.html
Just did this trail a few weeks ago in my XJ Cherokee (was first person there, same day the Wrangler rolled). The trail isn’t that tough... BUT no video can convey the uncomfortable feeling of being off-camber mere feet away from a cliff. I’ve knocked it off the list, but I don’t need to do it again. Poughkeepsie Gulch was far away my favorite trail in the region.
I have to say, watching you wheel with live audio, and quiet toyota engines, was very nice. Its amazing to be in a place like you are, and sometimes loud exhaust gets old real fast, especially on an overland trip.
William Fawkes thank you for watching, I agree, I removed the trd exhaust which made a huge difference.
Wow, what a trip! The views are amazing and terrifying at the same time! Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed it.
You guys were killing me taking that switchback way to tight.....
right. i was like dude u can take it wide just go
RUclips recommendations got it right. Definitely underrated. I will now binge watch your videos.
I agree 100000%....so well produced videos.
Bad ass video man like always and one day I’ll be hitting that Colorado trail to looks really nice keep up that good work vato.
Great video, footage and editing. Wow, amazing experience you had. This is what the outdoors is all about.
who needs all these streaming services when we have this, amazing video.
Arsh Khosa thank you for your kind words!
I really enjoy your videos man, they're so well put together, really tells a story and they're interesting start to finish! Thanks for inspiring me.
Did you mean to say the buildings in Ouray look like they’re from the 1860’s? 1960’s would be ranch style mid mod.
The footage you got is incredible. That burrito looks even better!
I have seen other youtubers vlog about this trail but man your video tops them bro. Thank You for this
OVRLND_E thank you man!
Great video with a great group of guys! Nicely done, George! 👊🏽🍒
Absolutely epic! Awesome video George. 🤙🏼
One of the better channels for overlanding that I’ve discovered. Really great. You’ve earned my follow :)
Thanks for watching Ethan!
Being from this part of Colorado (and even having gone to middle school in Telluride) it was interesting that I was able to guess where these guys were from. After the first few minutes of the video, I was like, "I bet they're totally from California." and I finally caught a glimpse of a license plate, and yup, Cali. They're totally cool and chill guys, and I wouldn't hesitate to hang out with them, but it's interesting how "outdoorsy" people are different from region to region. It's like they're their own type of rugged, which is like, kind of cleaner? More stylish? More with it? All your clothes looked laundered and wrinkle free. Even the hoodies. And your trucks looked super nice too. Maybe "California Rugged"? And it's really different from what I'm used to which I guess is "Colorado Rugged". Ha ha. Glad you guys enjoyed your visit to the San Juans, and thanks for the great video!
Just say rich people.
@@ADDvanced ha ha, or at least, very image-conscious, which does take money to achieve. Even the meals they eat. Shrimp? That looks better than what I usually eat at home 🤣 Don't get me wrong, it looks delicious. And if I were with them and they handed me a plate, I'd be so grateful and impressed. But when I'm out car camping, it's like, a can of Ranch Style Beans opened and placed on a rock next to the fire using a pair of pliers eaten with a pack of store tortillas, or if I have a Coleman with me, it's Spam and potatoes and a beer, ha ha.
From Idaho. I know exactly what you mean. You can tell the locals rigs apart from the transplants. These guys trucks are goals but I'm not rich. I hate how you never see older 4runners and hardly any 2nd gen Tacomas yet FJ cruisers are here because they're rare and desirable. Sick builds, but I want to see someone wheel in a secondhand 2nd gen taco SR5 like what I have.
@@jgm113i was just in this area a week or so ago and saw a lot of older 4runners and land cruisers in silverton. makes me want one so bad but even those are selling for ridiculous prices these days
Bro great video and great music!!!! Really dig your channel man.
Well done video. This is the good stuff man. Thanks for the production, and the inspiration.
Watching this makes me want to get a truck and start hitting trails. Love the content.
Probably the best footage I’ve seen of black bear pass. Good stuff bro
Definitely cool video!
I drove all the way out there from Florida back in July and did the passes. Black Bear was my favorite. I was alone and had the trail pretty much to myself. No spotter and it rained and sleeted coming down the steps. But I lived. Lol.
Thanks for sharing; so cool seeing those FJs!
Super dope video. Keep up with the good content. I like these type of videos.
Just stumbled on this video, and you're putting out some great stuff! Subscribed and keep up the dope videos!
Thanks for watching Brandon!
What a great video! From off-roading to the awesome great views! Awesome man!
This video had some amazing shots in it. Great job!
Such amazing video man!
I want to do this trail but man. I was so anxious watching that, great video.
Thanks for sharing the video. As I see the fun and important part is the friendships. Friendship don't make you get boring ro enjoy the overlanding. Keep more videos.
Nice Trip man!! Thanks for sharing your experience and the awesome views!!
Just took the pass today, to say I was scared was an understatement. But the view is worth the “stairs” 💯
Editing with this video was on point 👊 Can't wait for the next episode.
Thanks Joshua!
Probably one of your best videos man! 🤙🏼I hope to one day do that trail!
Thanks man! Let’s do it
it's like watching the dicovery show, love you bro love all you overlanders ~~ Keep bringing it!
Thanks for sharing George! Quick question. How did you feel in the right turnarounds on this trail with the rear tire swing out? I have the ability to add a one to my Tacoma. Use to driving my 4rnr but it’s been sidelined so I gotta use my Taco to do this trail.
6:30 perfect time to use that crawl control.
Brahhh I can't wait to see hummer ev do a "crab walk" around that corner. 🦀🦀🦀
💪
Thanks G!!! Great video and an inspiration to me - love the footage man. Awesome rig lineup too! - From South Africa 🇿🇦
South Africa should have pretty good 4x4 trails too, Capetown to Namibia .....
Groete uit Kanada.
Just found your channel. You do a great job. Can't believe you don't have more subscribers. Subscribed and will share your video's. Great work and sweet rig's.
You guys really know how to cook some good food!! Great job on the video also.🤗
"you end up in the forest somewhere, and this is where you die" hahaha awesome video dude! 🤘Makes me want to plan a trip out there.
I’ve been on some brutal trails here in Colorado I hiked them ,drove through them, All the above.🤘
Another banger. 👊🏼
Breathtaking views, nice job man.
Squad goals
Personally a Jeep fan, but damn those are some amazing rigs. Love the vid!
You cannot beat the comfort and warmth of a Mexican tiger blanket.
great edit on an Epic trail. Just did Black Bear this summer, in my 2016 Taco with OME!
Utah and Colorado really has a stunning view! Nice video George. Those switchbacks are nasty!
I just did black bear a few days ago. It poured down rain right as we got to the steps. That made it exceptionally scary! But... the whole crew took it slow, and spotted each other down. I have to say... this trail is a one and done for me. I'm glad I went and did it, but I definitely don't plan to return! Lol
So much fun, love it.
Been to Ouray many times. It's not just some town, that is Off Road Town USA except for maybe Moab. Also, hugging the right side down the steps and making the turn makes this trail more dangerous, not less. Should be lots of guys on the different yota forums that could've told you this. Great vid though and glad you experienced it.
very enjoyable video, thanks for sharing!
That was awesome. Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Cant wait to see next episode.🚙🚙🚙👍
Thanks for watching Roger!
You guys were in my neck of the woods. Grew up in colorado. Some of the best camping, fishing, hunting and hiking in the whole US! Looks like you had a good time.
Eye-no-gene and You-ray. Great video Toyo guys.
Great video thanks guys 👍🏻
Great trip!!! Black Bear Pass is still on my To Do List!!!
As a tacoma owner that was nice thanks for sharing
Did this Pass after doing Mosquito Pass with my "99" Silverado Z-71 factory stock except for the 285 Destination MT's on it with cap on back. Fun times!
"I'm not gonna lie, I'm shaking right now." I'm not gonna lie either, so am I. looooll. Thank you for sharing!!!
Hey man , that was an awesome video! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
great video, probably your best! You focused more on the rigs and the adeventure itself which is great. Viewers don't care to focus on the people for minutes on end going on n on... its about being able to put themselves in those awesome places that you go. Thank you either way and please keep it going!
Thanks Patrick! Definitely taking a new approach on these videos. All suggestions are welcome. Thank you for watching and supporting!
Beautiful scenery. Scary as hell though. When camping in the cold make sure to bring a nice sleeping pad with a high r-value to help some of the loss of heat due to conduction. It's a game changer. Great video.
Awesome video.....keep the grind going!!! 👍🏾✌🏾
Sweet vids bro!! Great vibes!
This is 100% great offroad trip video.
Another awesome video bro!
2:12 That bass rattled my weak computer subwoofer for 10 seconds! Btw, nice video!
Great video George! This is on my bucket list.
Awesome footage man! I was supposed to be down in Colorado (driving down from Alaska) for overland expo mountain west and to meet up with Brian (off-grid backcountry adventures) and Phil (down2mob overland) . Was planning on hitting this trail in my 1996 Ford F350 with the truck cabin on the back... this is the best footage I've seen of how sharp those switch backs are... still wonder now if it would even be possible in the F350 quadcab longbed lol
Nice work brother! Ill subscribe and keep watching. Good video and conversation.
Beautiful! Thanks 🙏 Brothers!
Nice video for sure. awesome editing!
Another great video brother!
It's been a few years since I've been there, beautiful place. Man, you guys eat well.
MY GOD That drop wow!!!
Epic views George I follow some of those dudes too. You should do another trip with you all have upgraded your rigs for 2022-23 Happy Holidays !
Bucket list trail for sure 🤙🏻🙏🏻
Amazing!
Great video and some cool camp spots. I love the portable camp Wok stove!
You and your bro’s are bad ass!
Thanks for sharing and your video makes The Steps look a little less scary than others.
Thank you for watching!!
More line stuck in the 1890's. Ouray is my Heaven on earth. For all the FJ owners, every summer in late July there is the FJ Summit. 4 days of group wheeling on Black Bear and other trails. It is awesome.
The opening with the Spanish guitar felt like a scene from Desparado
Do you know the songs name?
@@ivanklein-vidal940 sorry i don’t know but I’m trying to figure it out.
Very cool video! Excited to take on the challenge myself sometime soon.
Great video! That trail is at the top of my list. :)
13:48 I don’t ever want to hear you say that phrase again. When overlanding, you should never forget your fishing pole🤣. Just got back last night from Monache with my 16 yr old daughter, and it got down to 18🥶. Great video Brother!! Colorado Native here. I sure do miss Gods country Colorado. Peace.
Nice looking rigs fellas! Cool video! I’m partial to the Fjs.
Another awesome video. So beautiful there.
Great content! Thanks for sharing!
Great video bro 😎
Wow brass balls my friends lol, some of those twists and turns had my blood pressure up just watching you.
Very fun adventure with the people you hang out with.
Thanks Philip!
Good times guys! living life right.
Very cool video. You do a great job!
