Patty is an incredible performer and artist. She had some hits in the early 80's with the band Scandal, which eventually became Scandal featuring Patty Smyth. This one was a big hit but she also had the SCANDAL hit "Goodbye to You". She eventually went solo and had a big hit with Don Henley called - "Sometimes Love Just Aint Enough". She eventually married tennis star John McEnroe and quit the music business to raise a family. She acknowledges that this video was not in her wheelhouse. During this time the effort to make videos interesting so that they could help sell music was important but she was not comfortable with the whole look and feel of it. She just didn't find it natural for her.
The band Scandal was formed in 1982 and Patty Smyth (pronounced “Sm-eye-th”) was the lead singer. For the 2nd album “The Warrior”, the artist name was changed to “Scandal featuring Patty Smyth” probably so that she could get some name recognition. It was definitely a good move because the band broke up after the 2nd album and then Patty started her solo career. FUN FACT: It was rumored that Patty actually hated shooting the video for The Warrior. She actually offered to personally finance the reshooting of the video but the music execs wouldn’t budge. As is the problem with a lot of music videos, the director/producers aren’t the ones who wrote the songs so they will always have their vision of what a music video should be which of course doesn’t always align with the songwriter(s)
This was a huge hit in 1984. No, it wasn't off of a movie, the video is just over the top theatrical. lol. Yes, Scandal is the group. I was a hard rocker as an 80's teen, but I liked and loved all these mainstream hits on radio and MTV. Fun Fact: the singer Patty Smyth was offered to sing with Van Halen via Eddie Van Halen a year later, but she declined. (per Professor of Rock interview with her on RUclips). The 80's were filled with great hits like this. I'm very lucky to have grown up during that era.
She has been married to John McEnroe,a Tennis Pro that was known for his temper in matches, but was a great tennis player in the 70's,she is on tour now at age 68 and John hung the tennis racket up to occasionally play guitar with her on her tour.
If you haven’t done anything by “The Black Crows”, Remedy, She Talks to Angels etc. are Great songs from a very popular Group back in the day! Some people say they are similar to Rolling Stones with rock-blues 🙏❤️🔥 Remedy is one of the best rock-blues songs that gets you fired up!
Ha ha re: the video, which is very much in keeping with what was being made for heavy rotation on MTV at the time, but reportedly Patty hated doing it. That said, the song was definitely the band's biggest hit. The band is Scandal ft. Patty Smyth because as you noted, she's a star (probably something her agent pushed for).
Did you guys know that Sam you bop your head side to side and Luc you bop your head up and down??? Lol you guys are too cute... I got a few ladies I'll bet you haven't heard of yet! Kim Carnes with Bette Davis Eyes, QuaterFlash with Harden My Heart, Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders with Middle Of The Road, Alison Moyet with Invisible, and with her band called Yazoo songs called Dont Go, then last but not least is Eurythmics, Annie Lennox, Dave Stewart - Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This) plus Missionary Man and I Need A Man. Almost forgot one, still Annie... Who's That Girl. :) And the guy with Annie? That's Annie dressed up as a man dark suit and dark hair.... ;)

Patty us from newyork.
This is a great song. But the best song from scandal is "Goodbye to you". A little more girly than the warrior though
That name is actually pronounced SM EYE TH

Can you react to the music video creeping in my soul by cryoshell?
Try "Goodbye To You" by Scandal. Better song in my opinion
Her name it pronounced SM-EYE-TH.
Patti Smith is a different t musician. Comet different genre. More punk/rock.
Typical cheesy 80's music video. We were all high so it didn't matter. Lol
LOVE this song! ❤
