Hey JB I was looking for part 2. really nice explanation for your reasons for doing what you do and using what you do! Smashing my old mate. I’m looking forward to seeing your Peach flavour ;)) Top man
Wow John absolutely brilliant advice as normal especially about the pop ups and the old flavours being sold it so hard for normal anglers to know such things top marks for putting it out there john cant wait for part 2 .
Thinking about trying to make my own hookbaits and your advice has been hands down the most informative. Was going to try and use your plum and bell ringer flavours soon . Thank you. Callum.
Glad to see you back! First ever Baits I made when I was 15 where one of your base mixes and your plum flavour. Seem to recall you where not too well not too long back. Glad to see you looking well.
Great insight John, and thanks for the e-mails about your old 'Pukka Salmon' flavour a few weeks ago. Looking forward to more of these!. Cheers, Roland
So much informed knowledge in under 13 minutes, brilliant. Loving the clips but I’m sure extended in depth versions would go down a storm too. Keep them coming...
Crammed a lot into this one for sure! I could go 10x deeper into this subject but it would start to get very technical, not sure how interested people would be? Thanks for the comment
Thank you for sharing your vast expertise on Flavour I first came across your name in Carp Fever issue I Carp fishing is like a jigsaw the more bits you can fit together the easer it becomes but in 40 years I have not completed the puzzle and still learning !!
Fantastic advice John. My fav flavours are Rod Hutchinson Monster Crab and Solar Squid and Octopus Koi rearer. Have been making my own baits for over 20 years now, think I’ll be giving your products a go. Would love to get your advice on the sort of boillie I’m looking to make.
Great series of videos John. Keep them coming! I am still using your baits on the Loddon and, although the fishing is pretty hard these days, there are still some special fish worth chasing. Picked up quite a few 'edges' from these clips that I will be putting to good use.
@@johnbakerbaits9108 that's great. You've got my juices flowing. I'm a supervisor making flavours for human food an drinks.. A lot of ice cream products so I can relate to your discussions 👍
John.....is is truly fascinating and very helpful indeed! Question about pop ups though. Given that once a pop up has entered a carp’s mouth and carp has been hooked (hopefully) surely in that relatively short moment of time a carp will not be getting all ‘the notes’ of the flavour?
Carp are able to evaluate the bait before it even enters their mouths, they have taste receptors all around their heads and even on their bodies. Their sense of smell is 1000s of times better than ours, and given the assumption that taste is linked to smell we can confidently assume that they’re able to detect all of the notes of the flavour, even if for a short amount of time when inside the mouth. Also using a slightly longer hair rig as I discuss in my previous video will allow the bait to be taken further into the mouth
another great video John. Them seems to be a real buzz about some thing called dmpt at the moment could you please do a video on your thoughts on it and how to use it please. Many thanks
Thanks for that information John on pop ups ,I been weary using cork ball popups but i started making cork ball popups with my own mix now .l made some hard hookers but put to much crayfish powder in they become Wafters . The cork balls popups come out fine tested them in glass water .keep to cork ball popups from now on
Hi John, regarding you blog referring to how much flavour to use relevant to the size of egg, would be useful to have the ideal max and min level of flavour per a given ml of raw egg printed on your bottles of flavour. It would be so simple then to crack any desired quantity of eggs into a measuring jug and then add the required ml of flavour per ml of egg. This makes more sense than using the flavour x weight of base currently on the bottles. Or if you don’t want to do that then how about putting a PDF on you website that lists recommended ml of flavour X ml of liquid Egg for all of you flavours? Thanks
Hi Steve, I appreciate your comments but there are too many factors that would determine flavour levels such as the type of base mix, whether its hookbaits, freebies or paste and how long each average session is. Also the regularity with which you may be fishing the same venue. All this has a bearing on the recipe of flavour levels so it would be very difficult to create a pdf table that suits all flavours and base mixes.
Just come across this channel and not considered making my own before really but you're changing my mind. Are you going to make a video on making normal boilies ie free offerings as opposed to pop ups? Or maybe hook bait boilies? 👀 Cheers great videos thank you for making them I've liked and subbed 👍
Hi there, definitely give it a go, fresh is always best! I have a video on my channel about making Hookbaits, I’m going to do another more hands on soon. Perhaps about free offerings, watch this space
Making your own bait is mega, but I have 2 mild warnings! 1. It's time consuming to do, so could mean less fishing time. 2. It's like going down the rabbit hole! That said, it's a significant confidence boost knowing your bait is the best on the lake, and catching on it is very rewarding.
Years ago a friend put me on to a chub attractor u used to sell , very successful when used to flavour meat , haven't seen or heard of it for long time now , wondered if it was still available?
That’s easy, I’ve got the perfect thing, it’s called particle punch which has complex sugars, enhancers and maple flavours. Ideal for adding to the water that you soak and cook the hemp in, have a look at the additives section on my website. Cheers John
Being in the EU, I was interested to hear about the FEMA number issue. Is it safe to assume that I will still be able to buy your flavours and get them shipped to Italy? I understand the separate transport issues involved at the moment with anything arriving from the UK, but it would be good to know I'll still be able to use your highly effective flavours. Keep the videos coming John, they are a welcome relief from the deluge of carp related cobblers that abounds.

Hi John you mention that flavours in plastic bottles after a while become toxic. I have to use a lot of plastic baits because of crayfish. Would the flavours also become toxic if left once they are used on plastic baits. If so how often should I be changing or throwing away plastic baits that have had flavours put on them. Regards Daniel
hi john watched you video with great interest i like your flavors and recipes but i fish for carp only in winter so spring summer and into october i fish for catfish would you happen to know a good recipe and bearing in mind i will be looking at a min of 30mm size pellet shape or boilie thank you
Bait size is irrelevant, you can make these by hand. I suggest you try my bio shelfish to 6 eggs put 20ml of salmon oil, 3 ml of ala salar, and 1 ml of crab and 10ml of shrimp. I know this recipe has caught many monster catfish in the UK. Good luck
