- Seaford Town is a settlement located in the parish of Westmoreland in Jamaica. It is located on the westernmost side of the island. It is commonly known as "German Town," due to the settlement of the area by Germans in approximately 1835.

Very interesting film. My ancestors moved from Germany to Jamaica in 1837. Their names were Heinz Heinrich Siegfried Grosskopf and Catharina Grosskopf. As the 4th generation in Jamaica, my great-great-grandfather George Filipe Groskopf moved too the United States and ended up in Norway in 1914, where he found a wife and settled down. We are now Norwegians.

My great grand dad came from Germany too...so I have got to love both sides...God bless them and God bless Jamaica...such a pity the crime rate is so high now...but I pray that peace, love and Joy will be restored...and that one day, everyone will be able to walk the streets freely and fearlessly!

Costume jewelry yes, but I would not bring my sterling silver (925) either, although the value is less than gold, it still has some value.
Why live both sides and not just love people? There is much more than two sides.
One has to visit Seaford Town to experience the history and then suddenly the entire story will become real right before your eyes. Its an incredible place- the people are mixed , blue eyes, blond hair and when thry speak they are distinctively Jamaican .
Next visit home I would love to go to Seaford Town. Grew up in Kingston and still don't know a lot of the island. Out of many, one people fi true!

I'm Jamaican, and to watch this made me think, "they forgot to tell us that some of us have German blood running through our veins" it's just wrong that school forgot this in our history books. Any how, I am very happy and proud to know we are after all, "Out of many, one people". Very educational.
I did my Ancestry DNA... I'm 4% Germany/Western Europe 1% Italian... I had about 2%British Irish whales... I was shocked to hear Germany... I've never been educated about Germans in Jamaica either. Now my DNA makes sense lol

Terry Adell I think you would have been told. They mostly kept to themselves and not spread out. If you have white blood it will more likely be Irish Scottish or English. Anything else your family would tell you.

I have family in England too. They make it 'home' every 10 years or so. Have no fear (but leave expensive jewelry in England - no temptation). I return annually with lots of fashion jewelry. I ho everywhere. Downtown Kingston to the Craft Market or restaurants. Whether or not I'll go this year is questionable...

That's true 20 yrs ago. It's the same thing everywhere u go now. Most Jamaicans embody their cultural interests/beliefs more than Americans do. Those of us raised in the 90s and prior teach our children what our ancestors taught us. Manners and respect went instinct after that.Unfortunately Jamaica has become so modernized trying to impersonate America and the result is Jamaican kids who talk to their parents like Americans do...sad

The vibe I get by reading some of these comments is that it seems that many black Jamaicans still put whites on a pedestal.
Their fawning comments display a sense of pride that whites speak patois, just as they do, and that Jamaica's population includes whites, as if that gives Jamaica a certain cachet, when there's nothing really spectacular about either, since we were all born in Jamaica.
But, for some reason they see it as such. I really don't understand it. They are not even aware of their bias.
It reminds me of some blacks who are quick to point out that they're part Indian, Irish, etc, but doesn't have the same pride in claiming the part of them that is African, or they are obsessed with colorism.
Interesting and now historic video as some of these people are gone now. We need to do more videos of our country towns and villages so they record what went on now. One day it will be historic in value. Trust me. I salute the Kamekas, Wedemeyers and the Sommers families with whom I have connections through marriage. God bless Seaford Town and its people.

My grandmothers people come from Catadupa, just over from Seaford and my ex-partners family from Lambs River, in the other direction. Passing through Seaford "German Town" is quite surreal, it signifies that we really are one of many! And that we all share a complex and layered history. Jamaica is so precious

As a white American who has been to JA three times, I would love to go to Seaford Town! I have never stayed at a hotel in JA, and have stayed from Duhaney Park to the Orange Hills to near Fern Gully. I would love to see this area first hand. Maybe one day!!!

From this video it is clear that there were some excellent social programmes in Seaford Town back in the day to improve the lives of the residents of the community and surrounding areas…… my family is from the neighbouring community of Lambs River and I have always been facinated the history of Seaford Town. I really learnt a lot from this video

I really like this documentary, the only problem I have is the label ‘lost’ being applied to Seaford Town many times here and elsewhere. As with most areas of rural Jamaica they are not rich, but stuck by to make their community one of the best pinapplr farming communities in the country.
When I hear these Germans speak, I don't see white. I see and hear my fellow islanders.

There are many more of these folks in St. Elizabeth. Growing up in the 60s, we usually associate the term, "Pretty Dunce" with these Germans in St Elizabeth. I had no idea they were also in Seafort, Westmoreland. They are cool Jamaicans.

30 years ago Dennis Brown invited me to Jamaica for the first time and I was so excited to see my Mum and Dad's homeland. I stayed in Kingston Town and I said to Dennis Brown, I'm going to take a walk Down Town Kingston and then all of a sudden I see a few white man walking in Kingston and I said to myself Is he from Germany or from Scotland or from Island and wearing a Black Suit so I greet him and I said are you from Jamaica? And he Yes. And he said to me why yu want fe know fah? I said I'm from England and it's my first time in Jamaica. And he Said to me his parents is from Germany! And I said WOW! Okay. Before I say Goodbye to him I said Don't you feel very hot in that black suit? He said No Sah hahhahah. But I feel so hot myself hehehehe. God Bless Jamaicans and Germaicans.

My mom was born in Seaford in 1938 her dad was of Germany descendent and her mom was African descendant .But I was born in St Andrew and now live in the USA and I my mom live in the Cayman Island.

I am from Westmoreland. I knew this. Manning's School, the premier high school of the parish was the melting pot of Jamaican kids from diverse racial ancestry. You definitely had African ancestry , but there were a number of mixed race kids and kids of East Indian descent, Chinese descent and European descent .
