Great video Scott. On my MX Master, my scroll wheel button is command W. My button below the scroll wheel is command T. My scroll wheel on the left side of the mouse is volume up and down. My bottom button on the left of the mouse is delete. My top button on the left of the mouse is enter. The large button on the left of the mouse that you press in completely with your hand is just “back” in whatever app I’m using. I’ve found this setup works really well in general efficiency.
I not only bought the mouse, but used this as a mapping guide. i ended up going with trim front and back for the 2 buttons and the thump rest in conjunction with the wheel for zoom in and out, but may play with it more, never used the command editor and been doing editing for 3 years now, just a small timer however, cheers for the instructions.
You forgot to mention the battery life on this ia absolutely awesome! I got my MxMaster2S a couple of weeks ago and have had to charge it once so far. :)
I can attest to the fact that this is a wonderful device. I took delivery of an MX3 a few days ago and it dramatically changes editing in Fcpx. Should have bought one ages ago. 10/10.
I was researching for a video/photo editing mouse for my new laptop and found this video. So helpful and being able to customize buttons on per software basis is a game changer!!
I ordered one of these about two hours before you put this video up. because of the same reasons, i was sick of going backwards & forwards. Can't wait till tomorrow when it comes
From one Sc ot to another...PHENOMENAL video. I am sold. Thanks so much. I currently have the Logitech MX mouse, which is a little scaled down from yours, but I think I will go to my Local Best Buy so I can touch it and feel it to see if it will suit my hand size and tactile feel, etc. Thanks again.
You can make all those shortcuts on the keyboard, just change them so that they are all about your left hand. I can give you my config if you want. I came here because I wanted to know if I can scroll and zoom the timeline with the mouse, and you didn‘t say a word about that...with the trackpad I can zoom and scroll the timeline perfectly

Sorry, that's not a huge concern to me. My most viewed video on my channel is an hour long, so my content is more important to me. Time isn't an issue, neither are views. Thanks for watching.
Y’know Scott, I see the potential value of that mouse, so I bought one last week. Worked fine, but as soon as I downloaded the LT Options sw to my Mac, it started sporadically connecting & disconnecting, making it unusable. I have a 15” MBP with the latest High Sierra. I returned it & got a Magic Trackpad. I like the way you have it set up, though.
Thank you Scotty!! Bought it today and will be setting it up as you suggested. I don’t edit multiple timelines simultaneously however. What would you suggest I set up those little buttons to do by the horizontal scroll wheel as an alternative instead of going to other timelines?
Hi Scott thanks so much for this video. I just wanted to check if you are facing any scroll issues when you lift the mouse from the pad. I'm planning to buy this mouse but I've read a lot of forums which talk about issues with scrolling when the mouse is lifted up. Also the switching between ratchet scrolling mode and smooth scrolling is not that great apparently. Have you noticed any such issues with your mouse?
I can only set the basic controls with my MX Master 2S, logi options is up to date and I can see C1 and AF but no advanced settings are available (ie. brush size, advanced modifiers). Any tips on how to fix this?
I purchased the mouse after this video but I have a problem. I created a similar profile to yours on my mouse under the final cut application. As well as customised and saved my revised keyboard commands. However the mouse is not controlling final cut with the new commands, but is using the default commands. Perhaps its a logitech issue.
I have this mouse and dig it, my question is can I set it up for the different sections in resolve 17(cut page, edit, color grading,etc..) thanks in advance
When trying to assign keystroke assignments to the MX Master 2S, has anyone else had problems with security and privacy of the app? When I allow this to my Macbook, the keystroke assignment I want for that button does not work (or wont assign it). Know idea on how to fix this, awaiting a reply back from Logitech help desk via email...I am doing it step by step as per video but there is no mention of the security and privacy part that I'm encountering.
OK, so I am now using the mouse you recommended and LOVE IT!!!! My only question is this Scotty: I don’t usually edit in multiple timelines at the same time, so those two buttons for back and forward (you use it enter) aren’t useful the way it is currently. I have them set to up arrow and down arrow to go ahead or back clip by clip. Any other ideas for what they can be useful for? Also, I have to again thank you for one other tip you gave in this video that was extremely helpful: to enable the “Enter” button to go to the beginning. That is so useful for both when you are going through clips in the browser, when you want to quickly go to the beginning of the clip you are reviewing and also in the timeline. Do you know of any FCP X shortcut to go to the playhead wherever it may be on the timeline. I am finding that i get the playhead lost too often and have to zoom out a lot to find it. Thanks again. Your videos are truly amazingly helpful.

althought the mouse wont me bind only the command or option key. it wants me to press a combination with them and not to bind them alone, anyone else know how to do this? thanks

I've researched and did enough troubleshooting to find the solution was to uninstall the Logitech software. Great video, I am trying to pair the mouse with Logitech options and am struggling. I can pair it outside of the software just in Bluetooth settings but not through Logitech options. This means when I am in the software it shows no mouse is connected. Do you know why this is happening? Thanks!
I don’t think it is the mouse because I have tried 3 of them! I also called Logitech and they said they were going to get back to me but they never did. They had horrible customer service.

Throw away the trackpad lol :).
Great video,
I am trying to pair the mouse with Logitech options and am struggling. I can pair it outside of the software just in Bluetooth settings but not through Logitech options. This means when I am in the software it shows no mouse is connected. Do you know why this is happening?
Thanks!
Sorry, can't help with that issue. Reach out to Logitech. Sounds like the mouse itself is acting up.
I don’t think it is the mouse because I have tried 3 of them! I also called Logitech and they said they were going to get back to me but they never did. They had horrible customer service.
Hmm..that doesn't sound right. Might be some sort of computer issue then. I know a bunch of people that have this mouse and have not had any issues.
Is that monitor the one sold by Apple? Amazon says its 22 inch?
Yes
@@scottmckenna Thanks.
Drinking game...Take a shot every time he says "button(s)"

Hi, my wife is smaller than me (I am roughly your size) and has shorter hands, so, is there a similar version for smaller hands???
It's not that big.
@@scottmckenna Well, she has a small hand and I am concerned that she might not feel comfortable with it. I dont mind the price of the mice, I just want the best there is for small hand people.
I have smaller hands too and was ready to return the MxMaster...but I hated the thought of giving up all those buttons! I bought a 'mouse' bean bag to put under my wrist and now I can reach all the button action pretty easily. Big mouse. @@LordOfThunderUK
genius.
Buh-In (button)...i love it. Not trolling, just thought it was funny!
I noticed the same buh-in issue. I honestly think many people pronounce it that way...I LOVED his video and actually bought the product because of it. Today, I set it up for FCP, PS, LR, etc.
Paindoctor funny.... I am an anesthesiologist changing career into digital media production. Are we both running away from the same thing? LoL!
