In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov presents to you the 5 best chess opening traps in the Queen’s Gambit, which follows the move order 1.d4 d5 2.c4. The gambit (pawn sacrifice by White) when declined by Black with 2…e6, we arrive at the variation Queen’s Gambit Declined. In this video lesson, GM Igor Smirnov covers the traps for both continuations 2…dxc4, when Black accepts the gambit, and 2…e6, when Black declines the gambit.
Also, he shows the traps for both White's and Black's sides. Some of these traps are classical, which you may have seen already if you are a more advanced player and have used them to surprise your opponents.
And what is special about all these traps is that you can play them ‘freely’ - meaning that even if your opponent is smart enough not to fall into these traps, it won’t affect your position in any way. You can just continue playing normal moves, and the position would be balanced.
Spoiler alert: The fourth world chess champion, Alexander Alekhine, actually missed to see one of these traps.

That last trap is absolutely savage
But in that too, the king can go to adjacent black square of queen instead of taking knight, then queen is saved
@@pattabiramans No, it can't - the black Queen prevents that.
The last trap couldn't the opponent choose to castle?
Man I'd cry if I someone did that to me.
Haha yeah
At 58 years old I'm just starting my journey with chess. So much to learn. I already knew the basics, the names of the pieces, how they moved etc... But from there I was/am lost. It's addictive though, and every time I win a game it makes me want to play more. Even when I lose, I learn. Thanks for making these videos so I can continue to learn how to play better chess.
Great to know. Enjoy the journey. It is a fun one!
Join a local chess club. They can be fun, and there's usually a couple good players that will help you out with some tactics and positions.

Chess is one of those things where answers just mean more questions.
Questions are a burden too others answers a prison for ones self........The Prisoner tv series . Best ever, second is Danger Man which is who No6 is despite McGoogan's denials. Episode called ' checkmate ' as well...........
This guy can show you a lot of perspective on lanes and forks.. piece development.. But the choices will always offer big questions..
Use professional perspective.
this and programming

Best video, simple and fruitful.
That exchange for a Knight was epic! Blew my mind. Nice one!
Excellent video. Thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for sharing this traps because i really love the d4 opening
Such an informative video!! Thank you!
Wow! Really helpful stuff. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
3rd trap is called the Elephant Trap. 4th trap Qa5 is the Cambridge Springs Variation. The 5th trap is Lasker's Trap. There are some other traps a little later in the game around moves 10-14 in the queens Gambit but mostly it's just a safe opening that gives you good endings and king safety.
Tell me which ones

How we can protect king in Chess detailing 6 years old boy very cleverly
Trap 1 - Save rook by blocking with knight.
Just curious. At 3:34, why wouldn't the black bishop just take the white queen at A4 instead of backing up?
@@miuzik8op908 does this loose knight?
@@darksyde3000 watch again from 3:00 (the example does not have the bishop there prior to the queen)
I just love this lesson! I haven't played the Queen's gambit (both sides) for a long time! I look at it this time with 'new eyes'! Thank you so much!
You are so welcome!
I like GM Smirnov's annotation style! Very clear, friendly and non-boasting.

I love the video and would like to cover some opening traps with kings pawn openings for white. Keep it up!
Great Video thank you 😊
Really appreciate your videos ☺️ very educational 🙏
Very good. Great video thanks
Great help 👍 cheers mate
thank you very much for your valuable tips.
The traps are what make these openings cool. I just finished a game and my opponent fell right into them. Great job Igor!
Thank you this was very helpful
This is a super helpful video thank you so much. I am wanting to impose my queens gambit knowledge and this has helped. Are there any common traps for Rudy Lopez? I like to play that as white but it seems to often end up with a very positional game, just positioning and taking a long time before any exciting options become available.
Great video, thank you!
Thank you for this
That’s terrific thanks
I’m going to play this opening all day & try it out. Thanks 👍
Thank you. Did really enjoyed that.
Glad you enjoyed it
Very helpful and instructive video. Feeling excited to employ 'em in the game.
Great to hear!
Thank you so much
In minute 1:50 you get a knight, not a rook.
After the move queen to f3 the opponent plays knight to c6.
Queen captures for check and then black moves his bishop to d7 - defending the king and at the same time defending the rook with his queen.
Yes, my sentiments exactly! The "Knight to c6 move" is a vacating sacrifice. Which allows a "discovered protection" for the Rook, when the Bishop comes to d7. Better to lose 3 points instead of 5.
yea i was coming to comments for the same reason
and also defending the pawn on b5...
Or black plays bishop b7, Q×b7 and then K d7 saving Rook. But the essence is you are a whole piece up.!!
Please read Nd7 instead of Kd7
Great tactics!
Can you please make a similar video on the King's gambit? Thanks!
i really enjoyed and superb video
Brilliant video
Nice way of explaining it. Thank you!
You're welcome!
Will try soon
Amazing bro!! Nice video

If there are any traps or instructive games regarding to the Catalan Opening, it would be great and much appreciated.
Thank you😁
Quite interesting!! Good job
Glad you think so!
Thank you
Damn dude. Its a superb video! Thank you much!
I knew the first one and the last one. I learned the last one as the Lasker Trap, very beautiful trap
9:23 ‘Standard Queen’s Gambit Moves’ White normally won’t play Bd3 when playing the queen’s gambit, it just wastes a turn when the pawn takes, bishop takes.

Nice video! 👍
Great tactics
whos here after watching the show?
yeah i finally got back into it after it
I was doing a training program in Lucas Chess and it went over the Queens Gambit, really happy I played it because it's become my favorite opening by far. I tried starting with the English but I just don't really enjoy the middle-games that come from it.
RCA: "Alright and then you take the piece to win the game"
Me: manages to blunder a piece and then the game a couple of moves later
Great video. Very good instructions.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Last move is a killer move 👌🔥
Great 👌
i really like the last one. thank you
You're welcome 😊
Genius moves. !!!! Luved this. ! TY. 😁✌
Glad you enjoyed it
Excellent
subbed great stuff
Thanks
Merci .
Nice traps, I will use them
Thanks for opening game
I gotta watch this one a couple of more times
I like these!
Amazing
Thanks for the great vids. Always fun and informative. What happens if Bb7 when Qf3. At least it saves the rook. Or is that another disaster.
Insane tricks
Hey dude, have a nice day , I'm just wondering how king's gambit works can you do some traps of it. Thanks. Anyway your video was nice.,
Lol no reply for almost a year.
This video really helped me. I just wanted to mention that for the first trap, I think there’s a way out of losing the rook as black. After Qf3, black can sacrifice the knight to save the rook. After Qxc6+, black plays Bd7.
found that too, its sort of an "only move" situation to even attempt to hold
Great !
Especially love the last trap
I like Queen's Gambit and also I like to mix it with London system.
This is very interesting gambit omg 😀😀😃
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thats sick
OMG I love these traps
