At 58 years old I'm just starting my journey with chess. So much to learn. I already knew the basics, the names of the pieces, how they moved etc... But from there I was/am lost. It's addictive though, and every time I win a game it makes me want to play more. Even when I lose, I learn. Thanks for making these videos so I can continue to learn how to play better chess.
3rd trap is called the Elephant Trap. 4th trap Qa5 is the Cambridge Springs Variation. The 5th trap is Lasker's Trap. There are some other traps a little later in the game around moves 10-14 in the queens Gambit but mostly it's just a safe opening that gives you good endings and king safety.

HI. At your question at about the 6:12 mark, why can't the king castle instead of moving the pawn? While it would box in the king, it shifts the balance of the board.
Questions are a burden too others answers a prison for ones self........The Prisoner tv series . Best ever, second is Danger Man which is who No6 is despite McGoogan's denials. Episode called ' checkmate ' as well...........

This is a super helpful video thank you so much. I am wanting to impose my queens gambit knowledge and this has helped. Are there any common traps for Rudy Lopez? I like to play that as white but it seems to often end up with a very positional game, just positioning and taking a long time before any exciting options become available.
This video really helped me. I just wanted to mention that for the first trap, I think there’s a way out of losing the rook as black. After Qf3, black can sacrifice the knight to save the rook. After Qxc6+, black plays Bd7.

In minute 1:50 you get a knight, not a rook. After the move queen to f3 the opponent plays knight to c6. Queen captures for check and then black moves his bishop to d7 - defending the king and at the same time defending the rook with his queen.
Yes, my sentiments exactly! The "Knight to c6 move" is a vacating sacrifice. Which allows a "discovered protection" for the Rook, when the Bishop comes to d7. Better to lose 3 points instead of 5.
The first trap given in this video comes up very often in regular games and especially in blitz games. I always play the Queen's Gambit as white and I have become knowledgeable in the traps in this opening.

9:23 ‘Standard Queen’s Gambit Moves’ White normally won’t play Bd3 when playing the queen’s gambit, it just wastes a turn when the pawn takes, bishop takes.
2:06 well.. i might be wrong, but i think there is something you can do. Queen to C7. If white captures the rook, move knight to c6 and the queen should be unable to go anywhere.
13:36 I think in order to grab queen, black should check with bishop before promoting the pawn. What if the King go back to e1 when knight check? You can't grab queen.
if white plays Ke1 you can do Qh4+. If pawn blocks, then Qe4+ is a double attack on the king and rook. If king moves, then it has to be Kd2 to avoid the skewer with the bishop, at which point your knight is safe because of a threatened fork on d4. So at this point you're a full piece up with lots more development, it's completely winning
I was doing a training program in Lucas Chess and it went over the Queens Gambit, really happy I played it because it's become my favorite opening by far. I tried starting with the English but I just don't really enjoy the middle-games that come from it.
What I hate to learn chess opening are 1. I dunno what to do in mid game (with new opening) 2. I dunno how they counter my opening 3. I dunno if there are traps This video is one of the most useful chess opening explanation (about what to do, what others might do, and what the traps are) Nice video! Ps. I hope you also make a video like this abt other openings
in trap no.4 the knight can go to e5 and if knight trades and queen takes the pawn it is checkmade by white. I analyzed it and trap 4 first trap wont work but am i mistaken?
@0:45 why would the White Pawn go from e2-e3 instead of controlling the center by going from e2-4 OR bringing out the White Queen from d-1-a4 to put the Black King in Check & then take the unprotected Black Pawn at d-5 ?
Playing the computer I kept getting killed when gambit accepted, K to c3 then black plays pawn to e5 would love the best play for white. 12 unsuccessful attempts to counter this move. Love the videos
The first trap there is an error. If the queen goes to f3 to threaten the rook, black can play knight to c6. If the queen takes knight black can move bishop to d7 and then the rook is safe. So he actually can stop the rook from being taken

On 4:32 white bishop takes pawn on f7 and you say that's the end of black. Could you tell me why is the black king obligated to take the bishop and then lose the queen?
I'm fairly new to chess so maybe I am missing something, but in the first trap you say black cannot save his rook. But with ...Nc6 2. Qxc6+ Bd7, you can't take the rook cause black queen would just recapture. What am I not seeing?
The last trap is risky. At 12:10, I think that dxe3 is a mistake because there is Qa4+. Whatever black response is, white will be up with a pawn, or worse, a bishop. This is how i see it. 1.Qa4+, Nc6 2.Bxb4, exf2+ 3.Kxf2 or, 1.Qa4+, Bd7 2.Qxb4, exd2+ 3.Nxd2 or, 1.Qa4+, c6 2.Qxb4, exd2+ 3.Nxd2 or, Worse response: 1.Qa4+, Qd7 2.Qxd7+, Bxd7 3.Bxb4, exf2+ 4.Kxf2

That last trap is absolutely savage
But in that too, the king can go to adjacent black square of queen instead of taking knight, then queen is saved
@@pattabiramans No, it can't - the black Queen prevents that.
The last trap couldn't the opponent choose to castle?
Man I'd cry if I someone did that to me.

Trap 1 - Save rook by blocking with knight.
Just curious. At 3:34, why wouldn't the black bishop just take the white queen at A4 instead of backing up?
