The only mics I've tried at that price would be the Rode VideoMicro or the Rode VideoMic Go if you can get it used/renewed. Great mics with limited low end, but still decent bang for the buck!
Great video 👍🏽 and awesome Mandelorian helmet 😂. Question for you, when using the line out into the DSLR, do you need to be recording from the Tascam for audio to be sent to the camera? Or can it be used as a plug and play shotgun mic? I just recently got it (no SD card, and not recording externally) and when using the line out to my camera there is no sound. Any help would be great appreciated!
Does the TASCAM microphone has gain control? For example, if I put it close to a very high volume (intense) sound source, will my audio burst? Or can I monitor it? The cheaper Rode microphones don't have that control option
Yes, they both have gain control. The Tascam has 1 DB step control I believe up to 50dB. I no longer use it, so I’m not sure if it has the same to -50dB.
Hey , not sure if you know, I just updated the FW on tascam dr-10sg and it now has audio meters on screen. I use Gh4 and m50 and canon doesn’t have audio meter like Gh4/5 so This feature on tascam is helpful :)
Nine Stories Creative for sure ... sweet little feature , I happened to read it on release notes when I checked (out of curiosity) any firmware updates 👍😀
Just download the firmware to your computer, transfer to an SD media card and insert it into your mic. Here's the link to Tascam's directions: tascam.com/downloads/products/tascam/dr-10_series/dr-10sg/E_DR-10SG_FW-Update_vA.pdf Thanks for watching!!!
I own both of your test mics plus the Rode VideoMicro...plus being in audio/video production Rode, Seenheiser, AKG and Samson. B&H Photo likes me a lot! When miking a project I've found over the years the best mic per personal sound preference isn't always the best one to use. An example for recording the outside world covering events. Many Vloggers love the Canon G7X Mk II. The problem is there is no mic input. The Mk III fixed this but added some problems the Vloggers didn't like especially with a delay in auto focus. Nor being a pro I never like the audio quality of a camera system versus pro audio recording equipment. So add a simple camera flash bracket to the Canon camera and attach the Tascam DR-10SG to the cold shoe makes quality recording with fast occurring events and post editing pretty easy. Add a Tascam DR-10X recorder to a broadcast quality EV RE50B mic for live talent interviews. For great audio while the subject is physically moving or some distance from the camera a Tascam DR-10L lavalier mic system takes care of this. Finally add a Zhiyun Crane M2 stabilizer for the camera/mic then just add a lot of talent to become a serious professional. There are many recording options. I used Tascam as a Vlogger example because they are relatively low cost, simple to use and only have to learn one of them to easily setup all of them in minutes. Try this using Seenheiser transmitters to a multi-track recorder and an audio technician(s) making it a lot more complex. What really counts is that humans emotionally respond to quality audio. If the audio is bad then the best creative video won't fix it. If the audio is great then poor video often gets a pass. Get great at both them to get the responses you seek. Regards
I got 3 of tascam 10sg last year , Amazon had it for $69 new ... I love the sound and the color feature (green, yellow, red ) helps me see if audio was hot or not (canon m50)
Really like your channel! And i like the Tascam way better than Rode. I mean the Rode is good but a bit annoying to me. The Tascam is just calm and gets the job done! PS: Btw, do you still have 2? Do you sell one haha?
Tascam 10sg fairs really well next to my rode VM Pro (not plus) , also I like ability to power tascam mic with usb power bank , makes me not worry about AAA battery ... lasts for hours 😀👍
The price changed like crazy out of nowhere. Don’t know if I bought it during a mistaken listing or just before massive demand. Either way, it’s still a great mic in my opinion.
It's a bit over 200USD on the local market. I consider buying it. When I heard you saying is 60usd on Amazon I jumped on the site to buy it. No more thinking for that price! 🙂 No such luck 😐
This video’s over a year old, and I sold the Tascam and I’ve been using the Rode VideoMic Pro+ for every gig since BECAUSE I tried them both in real environments. One RUclips video doesn’t mean it’s the only time the products featured were ever used. Happy making!
Wow!!! Thank You man...been waiting for a video like this for a long time!!!
Thank you so much for watching!
Was going for one of them but couldn't decide before I saw this video, deffo the Rode, thanks for the review
Absolutely! Great mics but the Rode is the clear winner. I use it constantly.
This was GREAT ... Thank you very much.
Thanks for stopping by!
Love the look of the Tascam but as you said, the price has quadrupled in recent weeks! Is there anything of a similar quality at a lower pricepoint?

Thanks so much! And yeah, you have to be recording internally to the Tascam for it to simultaneously record to the camera. I learned it the hard way.

What mic do you recommend for a vlog camera! That’s not so huge! Lol and awkward to walk around with.... I vlog with the canon 740
I’d probably start with the Rode VideoMic Go. It’s small and doesn’t look too wild and crazy.
Hey love the comparison. What is the LED lightbar in the background?
Thanks! It’s actually a lightsaber...😂
@@MattJackson_RUclips Thanks, any links to where I can get one?

That’s great to hear! I’ll have to do the same on mine!

Super cool!
Hi, I just bought the TASCAM DR-10SG microphone, how do I update the firmware? thanks in advance, sorry my english i am italian :)

Which microphone do you recommend for smartphone filmmaking? What are your thoughts on using the Zoom h1n microphone for filmmaking?
It's a great mic! I also like the Rode Wireless Go with the TRL to TTRL adapter for use with my iPhone a lot.

Indeed it does. Thanks for the info! Best to you!

It’s a great mic, especially with what a little post tweaking will do. And looks like we grabbed it for a great price!
Nine Stories Creative 😂👍
Hi, is it possible to use the Tascam as an external microphone for the laptop? Thanks!
I would assume so if you have the proper cable for your specific laptop. I've not tried it, but if I do I'll definitely let you know!

Thank you!
Tascam Dr 10SG is 200usd. Where do you see it at 60?!
LE: nevermind. I see the addition in the video description...

@@CosminRotaru Yeah, and that was a year ago - I think the ASMR folks are driving up the price. Haha.
Well presented bro. Rode Mic sounds significantly better.
Thank you! I agree. Love that mic.
Tascam noise is so loud
Dude go out and do a test in a real environment
