I am glad you made this video. I was hesitant to buy yet another pricey tool like a Griot #9 polisher at $170 and wanted to use my angle grinder for polishing, since it is variable speed. I might get a cheap smaller grinder that is easy on the wrists at $40 or under. However, you did not show any actual polishing, so this is theory only and not a demo. You also did not post any links to the type of pads you bought and that would have been useful. A couple of things to point out to readers - the cordless grinders are heavier and will put strain on your wrists, esp females like me with slender wrists. Better to stick with corded versions and small as you can find since you don't need power in a polisher. I would also get a variable speed grinder as you want to keep the speed low. High speed will cause so much heat friction on your foam pads that they will burn up and leave melted foam on your project or car, not to mention taking off the paint on your car. It will melt at high speed regardless of how much you press down on it, because there is more heat generated with high speed friction than low speed. This is why, when you buy nylon bristle cup brushes for your grinder, they warn you to keep it under 2500 RPM or it will melt. It melts regardless of how lightly you hold it to the project. It happened many times with me when I forgot to adjust the speed. This is with a heavy duty nylon, not this light foam pad which will melt easily. Using a drill for polishing is useless. Not enough power, very heavy on hands and awkward bulky angle, and wears out the drill for long term use. Regarding back pain - public service message: It's not a spinal compression, it is a butt muscles compression that is causing your back pain. Do some butt gluteal stretches, and also upper leg stretches and your spine, neck shoulders, hips will all loosen up. Swimming outdoors helps a lot too, and adequate sleep. Small massagers on the hip muscles will loosen them up too. Stay away from those toxic Red Bull, Monster, Venom drinks, and all soda pop drinks which are the root cause of fat belly and metabolic disease. No more sodas! The sodas, beers, sugars, refined carbs are the cause of fat bellies and the root cause of metabolic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, stroke, etc. All comes from one thing - sugar. Don't be in denial, that is not good for your longevity. If you are tired, and need energy, take a Vit B complex 100 mg tablet with your food and its like a shot of coffee and very good for adrenal glands. Caffeine on the other hand will wear out your adrenal glands and make you very tired. Take Vit B's at 8 am & 4 pm with food, and at noon, take a good quality Multi Vit/Mineral tablet like Costco Kirkland brand, but not junk ones like Centrum, One a day, these are no good. Do abs to strengthen torso too. I find the more active I am, the more I need to support my torso with abs strengthening. Goodbye lower back pain!
Wow David !!! What a great buy. Not to mention you have already told us at least 3 tools it will work with.😀😎. I hope you feel better soon. A bad back can get you down in a hurry. My hip really limits my mobility, but my stubbornness won't let it win😍😀😎. You are a true inspiration !!. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and videos, Rodney
It’s a good thought and cool package to polish up metals or old tools or something but don’t use it on paint whether it’s the drill or grinder. No random orbital action will surely swirl your paint very quickly.
Car polishers are definitely a lot slower. I would definitely not recommend using an angle grinder. It can burn the clear coat off. Please use the drill it would be a lot safer. Plus you will have control of your speed. BTW HAPPY BIRTHDAY. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the angle grinder advice I suspected that the speed and power of one might be a bit too much. How about an orbital sander? those aren't too fast
Could you please tell me if it worked? I have a Ryobi grinder and want to polish my truck. I couldn't find your other video. I'd really appreciate it if you could tell me. Thanks
I’ve actually just setup my dewalt angle grinder with polishing attachment. It does seem to fast with no variable speed , y drill with probably do better . The grinder has probably done a good job at cleaning the the pain surface with the sponsor attachment as it needed closer attention a jet wash couldn’t do 👍 Can’t see yiur video testing a grinder as a polisher though 🧐
Wow, we share a birthday, 😂 I like that, 2nd reasons I subscribed. The first is how you are just Ryobi yourself. Thanx for the video, I needed to know about the sending and polishing pads. Too bad buying from your links can be a bit expensive, I will search in my local hardware store hoping for that full box.😉
Just a thought: 4.5" is a tiny buffer & a non-orbital, 10,500 RPM pad is bound to quickly leave serious swirls in paint. Lastly, the angle grinder isn't the most comfortable or efficient tool for gentle polish operations. Check out the P430 10" orbital buffer (2500 rpm, $34) or the P435G 6" orbital buffer (4000 rpm, $37.97) if you need something smaller. Both offer orbital action/lower rpm to avoid damaging your finish, larger pads that complete the task faster, longer runtimes, & better ergonomics/control for the job. The P430 is an especially good deal as they just dropped the price $10. Hope your back feels better.
I have the small Ryobi Buffer. I used it in a previous video working on the boat, Im doing testes with the grinder to see what it does the finished surfaces
Nice Video.... By the way ..It wasn't picking up the empty box.......It was when u placed the box on the ground.... next time throw one leg up in the air as you go down and it will help 100%..... U have a lower disc 4 and 5 issue m8.... I can guarantee u that u get a bad back when u even decide to pick weeds out of a garden ....... Will get a lot worse as you get older........ Been there Done that......
Thnx. But u didn't answer the question. What r the rpm differences? Specifically. Between buffer, grinders, & drills? & Of course, the outcome. Is faster (higher rpm) better?
My grinder doesn’t have a spot for the wheel lock 😡 now i lost the damn tool and have to use pliers 😂 i planned on doing my boat aswell but didnt want to buy a big 6” buffer for this
When you put that box down, I knew immediately you hurt your back!! I have done it many times myself & many times it's the smallest things like that!! Why? IDK? It just happens & it hurts like hell!! Like I said I watch your vids on my TV, but don't comment, but do eventually watch on my computer to thumbs up & leave comments occasionally. I have been working on something that I eventually want to send to you in couple months that I know you will love. Call it a late Birthday present or early Christmas present, but it's a fairly valuable Ryobi Collectors item. I have never done anything like this, but it's something from my business I will sell & they will be limited to 6 total for sale, but because I don't watch a lot of YT vids & don't do social media at all, I do enjoy your videos & as I have mentioned I spent thousands buying into the Ryobi platform since Christmas of 2018 with all the "Deals". I'll keep in touch here & there in the YT comments. No I am not a stalker or any shit like that, I just know you will love this. It's just something I want to do. I do it to close friends, but never to a stranger I don't know & you don't know me. Aight guy I leave it there. I know I talk too much!! Keep the vids coming! Peace.....

Hey, I have a ryobi grinder (looks the same as yours). I bought a ridged tile cutting blade for my backslash, but the instructions for the grinder say no flat disks. Yours looks like its holding a flat disk, so what are your thoughts?
Don't waste your time or money on this product. It will not work. I tried it and the grinder kept stalling. The angle grinder will not work as a polisher. Maybe that is why he never posted a video testing to see how well it worked. He is probably the person selling the kit on ebay.

I have a huge Ryobi collection myself. They really get the job done and they are reasonably priced. Will not crap out on you prematurely however don't expect to do construction work with Ryobi tools.
Wire it through a light dimmer switch and then use the dimmer switch to to control the rpm giving you variable speed control? (Of course this could only work with a mains wired grinder)
