  • I took a 9X12 inch blank to 3D carve this Bear Hunter with the Sienci 30X30 LongMill CNC runnin the Harbor Freight Bauer Router.
    I used a 1/4 inch endmill bit to rough out the blank.
    I used the 1/8 inch ball nose for the fine carve.

    Great result!... where do you get your relief models from? do you design them yourself... I do a fair bit of 3D modelling, but relief sculpting is not my strong suit... LOL

      I have made some. But I have collected more than 60 over the years that I have found on free STL sites. I will be working on them the coming months.

      I have had 2. Still using both. The bearings are a little rough in my first one. My fault. Running too fast through red oak. I still use it though.

      I can’t remember where this one came from. Last year I just searched for free cnc stl. I have over 50. I have 1 that I bought from Etsy. Going to record each one. These were free, so I could share them in a google drive I guess.

    You should check out the Prettifying process you dry the wood and the soak it in Hydrochloride acid and put as many minerals in the acid while it soaks then dying it and then bake it in a argon oven with temps 1200 degrees 2 hours and then your wood carving is turned to rock. it'll petrified it up to a moss 9 hardness. then you can polish it like a head stone. It's like million years of petrifying into a few months most of it drying.

    What are your thoughts on the Bauer router over the Mikita for this machine? Why did you decide to go with the Bauer? Are you still using the Bauer or have you switched? Thanks

    • @JackInTheShop
      @JackInTheShop  2 года назад +2

      Sorry, I do not know why I was not alerted of this comment. Still using the Bauer router. The reason I use it is simply cuz it works and it was only $75.00. It might not be the same for everyone. I don't know. But as for me, it works fine so far. Keep in mind, I have only had the CNC for 11 month. But I set all my toolpaths to 100IMP then run gsender at 160 to 200% speed. Depending on the wood.

    Hey, how did you set your
    XY 0 for this, or where did you set it at?
    Thanks.

    • @JackInTheShop
      @JackInTheShop  Год назад +1

      Just made sure the blank was at least 1/2 in larger than my model. Then just set the "0s" in the bottom corner of the blank.

    • @JoeLazzara
      @JoeLazzara Год назад

      @Jack In The Shop Oh ok. But did you use the touch probe for the XY also, or just the Z?
      For this project, could you have used the probe on the corner and set your XYZ that way, or no?

    • @JackInTheShop
      @JackInTheShop  Год назад +1

      @@JoeLazzara I could have, but no I really have only used the plate for Z. A lot of times I don't use it at all. Run Z down while spinning the spindle by finger till it just starts to drag. I have only used the plate for XY maybe 2 times.

    • @JoeLazzara
      @JoeLazzara Год назад +1

      @Jack In The Shop Oh wow. Well I guess you can do that since you know what you're doing and how to do it lol.
      I'm too new to this stuff to attempt it, I can't even picture it in my head how to do it lol. After several failed attempts, I finally figured out how to use the touch probe. How it works in conjunction with your job setup in the design. Duh 🤪.
      But thanks for your help and the info, I appreciate it Jack!!
