I just took our dog out into our woods two days last week to forage some greenery so I could make some swags for our front windows and porch. Love being in the woods discovering all the life still out and about even in the cooler Weather. ( I live in southwestern Virginia). Blessings to all!

I lived in Japan for over a decade and they have a custom of cleaning everything from top to bottom before ,the new year. It's a Wonderful custom, cuz it allows you to start the new year with a good cleansing.

Colette, I wasn't going to comment today as I am doing projects while watching my RUclips videos, but you just struck a chord with me. Yes! to mid winter and its "bleakness"! I love and cherish this time (it helps that our first snow of the year is softly falling outside as I write!), but the precious gift winter provides as a down time of rest and reflection and recharging both physically and spiritually to be ready for Spring and a new year feels just so right. Nature knows what is best for us and rather than fight the plan of her cycles, embrace them, celebrate them joyfully, and with true thanks! Yet another gift from such a generous giver!❤️❤️👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🌲🎄🍂🍁🌎

I’m so excited. I recently got a baby Bay Laurel--living in Michigan it is something that will have to come in during the winter, and it is a baby. Love the bench. I made one out of the top bunk of a maple set from back in the late 1940”s--my son used for his bed till he was about 22-it was great - we kept set in the higher notches - when he was little it was his club house and hide play room. At night it was his Moon-shadow Boat (think Cat Stevens song Moon shadow-I sang it to him every night and then would say-your bed is a boat now sail away)When he turned 25 I wrote him a poem about all the things it was and gave it to him as a bench. I’m with you--winter is not bleak to me either. I love it --from crisp to frigid - to the blessing of darkness Blessings of the Yuletide - Krampus and St. Nick--Yule to Solstice--Holly and Mistletoe--shall we all be healed.

I love the bleak midwinter ! It reminds me of my home country of the Netherlands, that I left over 40 years ago to marry my American husband. In California I long for winter sometimes especially in December around Christmas time. My husband was originally from Canada. You really are an inspiration to me, as I'm a couple yrs younger. All you do, all on your own, makes me get off my butt and get outside. I'm by myself on 2 acres, there's tons of things I need to stop putting off, that really need to get done. Perhaps you should move your Bay into your tunnel after pruning at this time of year. We’re having a very cold spell on Wednesday this week. I’d hate you to lose it! They’re a beautiful addition to any garden.

What a breath of fresh air is the indoors of your cottage…so bright & cheerful. How spiritual it would to hike to the mountains & go foraging for greenery for the cottage this festive time of year. The Cotoneasters are one of my favorites of your garden, I’m sure the birds love them too. You could grow some extra Bay trees to sell. Who wouldn’t love a little Bay tree topiary for display and use for cooking. 💕 Perhaps your local garden shop or even a local second hand shop could add them to their inventory. I wish I could find one for sale somewhere that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. 🍀
How wonderful to have a bay tree! We are deep in snow here, outside wreaths and lights up, and planters garnished with greenery and a bit of ribbon. Men have devoured the canned peach crumble I made this afternoon.
The bay tames a good pot dry beans when cooking up!...I love seeing Bealtaine Cottage this time of year.. it is revealing it's bones and showing hope of next year's growth!
The orchard is looking great. But oh that veranda is so lovely. And the bay looks so good after her haircut. Every time I have a pot of bay or rosemary I have to bring it in for the winter. Christina Rosetti’s words conjure such a painfully beautiful picture for me of a winter landscape in hibernation. I’ve been singing it to myself a lot recently as I walk my dogs looking at the beautiful bare trees against the winter sky. Like you I find the winter incredibly beautiful. I think the hardness of the image she creates contrasts with the soft gentleness of the tune so it’s almost a lullaby….nature is asleep, resting until spring! Happy Yuletide xx
I find the change of season very therapeutic and living in hills by moors the changes are noticeable and wildlife never seems to amaze me as winter visitors come and go. When you see a robin means a loved one is nearby. I hope the following seasons are full of blessings and good fortune. I am getting ready for yuletide too but with a little help as I twisted my ankle badly with torn ligaments and this is on top of after recovery from two infections so I am sitting and watching you from my craft shed enjoying your show looking and wondering if it was the broken mirror pieces in the box
