I think when someone is as good at their trade as you are people assume it's "talent" or "natural". As a c level uspsa shooter I am blown away at what you do and the work that went into achieving it.
Taran Tactical I started training that draw and hip fire for under 5 yard targets, because of you lol. It really is something that everyone should practice for self defense, most of the time you will be drawing quick and firing 3-4 shots before you even have time to aim or get a two hand grip. Here it's easy, we shoot in the desert in Arizona, I'll never go to a range ever again ha ha they don't want hip firing.
Come, my child, and join me on a journey into California's abyss of horrific, fucked up gun laws. So, sometime in the mid-2000s, the CA state government came up with this idea of creating an "Approved Handgun Roster" that would limit what handguns that licensed firearms dealers could sell new out of the box. The requirements to get on the roster were that the gun has to have a loaded chamber indicator (LCI) and a magazine disconnect safety, among others. One of the requirements that has caused hell is a "microstamping" requirement. Microstamping is basically requiring that every single shell casing fired out of a handgun has to have the gun's serial number stamped on it in two different places... every time... you pull... the trigger. The CA state officials said this is to cut down on crime because they could then trace shell casings to the gun it came from. Only problem is, microstamping is fucking impossible to do. Numerous gun industry reps have testified over and over again this point, but the CA legislature doesn't care. Anyway, to get back to the point, the Roster of Approved Handguns was finalized in 2013. Since then, guns that have been created after that year have essentially been locked out of the CA market because of this crazy microstamping requirement. The only new gun I can think of that we've gotten in recent years was the Kimber K6 revolver this year, and I'm not entirely sure how that happened (maybe revolvers are exempt, I dunno). The roster also *specifically* states that the only Glocks legal to sell new are Gen 3. No other Gens for us! There is a way to buy guns that are not on the roster, and that is through face-to-face transactions from a private seller. Usually this comes from law enforcement officers selling their guns (because LEOs are exempt from the roster, they can buy whatever they want, and they have no 10-round mag caps either) or from people moving to CA from another state who bring their gun with them. So because the roster has completely screwed the handgun market in CA, off-roster handguns command a *huge* markup in the private market. Here's an example: the Canik TP9. This thing sells for around $300-$350 in a normal market. Guess how much it is in CA? It's anywhere from 600-700. The same for Gen 4 Glocks. About $450-550 in a sane market, they sell for typically $800-$1,000. The Gen 5s are currently still in their "omg so hype" stage which is why the price is so incredibly high on the right now. I expect by the end of the year, the prices will stabilize around the $1,000-$1,200 range for them. And that, in a nutshell, is the story of craaaazy Commiefornia's handgun market. I like to think of ourselves as akin to North Korea being trapped in a frozen time bubble since all our handguns are things that were hot a decade ago. Oh, did I also mention the roster gets smaller every year because every manufacturer has to pay a fee (coughBRIBEcough) to renew their place on the roster, and if they don't, they get dropped off the roster? That happened to the Beretta Cheetah series this year... say goodbye to buying a Beretta 84 in CA now. Here, take a look for yourself: certguns.doj.ca.gov/safeguns_resp.asp I haven't even gotten into the "assault weapon" restrictions that have destroyed the rifle market...
I wish Glock would do away with the plastic factory sights already. I also would have liked to see a little more of an aggressive undercut on the trigger guard. That's just me personally. I think Glock is going in the right direction with the gen 5 for sure. The grip change is great. I hate finger grooves, and the big glock hump. Definitely like a flatter grip profile, and the gen 5 seems to have it. I'll probably buy one when I have the extra scratch to justify it.
The half moon cut on front of grip at the mag well serves the same function as the preexisting one on the back (blocked by the plug installed in this video), to give you area to grab mag baseplate to aid in ripping mag out in process of clearing double feeds, etc. (thumb behind and now plus fingertip with Gen5 cut out on front). Don't agree with Glock's front and rear mag pinch for this function but that's the purpose of these cut outs. Also, it's not a slide "release", it's a slide stop.

I'm a long time S&W M&P guy, because I've been waiting for Glock to get the features I want on a pistol? Would this be a good model to delve into Glocks with? I'd carry a 19 for EDC and a 17 for IDPA.

When you use plugs you take away that functionality. Also the slide "release" is a slide stop. Competition shooting is not the same as defensive, practical shooting.

Sir I've seen you do point shooting with sv guns and taran tactica glocks on videos.. are you always able to do point shooting with older stock glocks or is this something that got easier to do just because of the flatter grip arch?
A Multi-Millionaire they’re different. 19 has a shorter barrel and shorter grip. Do you want a smaller gun or a bigger gun? If you’re shooting competition the bigger gun is easier to shoot. If you’re conceal carrying the smaller gun is easier to conceal carry.

Taran proves aiming through sights are optional, I have always shot from the hip and done well, with my vision there is no gun long enough for me to get a great sight picture and my glasses or contacts make it worse. Do I train with sights absolutely, but it is good to see how expert Taran is from the hip

Question for Taran Butler of Taran Tactical. Any Glock beyond the GEN 3 is not available for sale to civilians in the state of California. This pistol, along with magazines over 10 rds are only available for sale to ACTIVE DUTY law enforcement in the state of California. How were you able to purchase this pistol and the magazines?
Just shot it here in Vegas and I'm not impressed. Trigger is better but the reset seems a little slappy. It does feel better in the hand and the finish is nice but it won't change anyone's mind if you're not a glock fan.
That slack in the barrel lockup was done on purpose because it's milspec. One of the requirements of a military sidearm is that you can take several guns apart, mix up the parts, and be able to assemble a working gun with reliability using mix match parts. Looser tolerances compared to previous Glocks IMO.
edro1973 I'm sure he has an FFL with the products he sells, etc. ONLY an FFL or active LEO's are able to purchase them right now. As is in the Gen 4's also.
Also if the new Gen 5's have as you call it "slop" in the slide/barrel then I wouldn't be interested. Why would you stake your life on a gun that has slop in it???

The slide lock shouldn't be used as a release. Rack the slide like you mean it with your opposing hand (right or left) and start going to work. This "ambidextrous slide release" is nonsense.
