It’s those live moments that reveal a musician’s character/ personality as well as their professionalism to me. This was total class from Alanis, and smoothed over the early fill so it was not even that big a deal. I appreciated the skill and humanity!

The first time I ever heard of Taylor Hawkins was when I saw him drum for Alanis back in the 90s. It was one of those shows where I ended up watching him more than the person I (thought) paid to see.
I was there and was amazed by her continued backward pacing…. She was awesome but I was way too concerned about her falling over backwards. She’s a pro!!
I saw her live August 2021 and not only was I impressed with the backwards walking at one point she spun in a circle like a five year old trying to get dizzy and then TOOK OFF WALKING IN A STRAIGHT LINE. I was literally shocked. I could never. I would have fallen off the stage🤷🏼♂️
When I was a kid in the 80's I saw Chad Smith play with a band named Toby Redd in Detroit. They were a local act at the time that many would go see along with Bitter Sweet Alley and The Almighty Strut. I was lucky to know the drummer from Almighty Strut (Gunner Ross - who went on to play with Ted Nugent). As a drummer, back then I LOVED the way Chad attacked the drums and wanted to be that good . . . . I'm 54 now and I've become less a drummer and more a husband, father, veteran, social worker and have recognized . . . . I ain't ever gonna slap like Chad! So happy he was there and SO happy that Alanis was there! Awesome . . . RIP Taylor; so many will miss you. God Bless.
