He isn't. Or people would still be talking about him and other comedians would mention him when they talk. They don't. He was one of the worst cast members on SNL too. I understand he brings some nostalgia for many of you, he just isn't the underrated comedy mastermind that you think he is.

They brought in big names like Elliot, Michael McKean, Garafalo and it was terrible and they basically got rid of everyone at the end of the season except for Meadows and Spade Get a Life was the funniest show in TV back when it aired and Cabin Boy is one of the 90s best comedies. Love Chris, but the longer skits like that go, the more they start to lose their comedic value. I hate to say it, and it's only my opinion, but not funny.
