You could build a pond in the low area and stock it with fish. The fish give nutrients to the water that you can then use to irrigate. 🌱

Build a pond, well or swales to catch that rain water, it will benefit you and your neighbourgh in the long term. For landscaping and water ressource management I recommand Andrew Millison youtube channel, might help you for your garden.

  • @junejewell

Swales! Your land & the neighbor’s property need swales or CCTs (cut contour trenches to catch that water. I know you said you can’t do that for your neighbor, but it wouldn’t hurt to ask. May save your garden from getting destroyed down the line.

Exactly! Eugenia is traing to work against nature when she is building garden at the natural lowest point. That spot is perfect for pond and male a garden on the swales or more up the hill. But her garden always looks so amaizing. I enwy (in a good way) even struggles she must fight.

You have a great opportunity to harvest that water. Slow it , sink it, spread it. Create a bank account for when it is so hot and dry. Permaculture principled can help you recharge the ground water as well. Good luck!

Self-sufficient life is really interesting. Especially make sure vegetables are not sprayed with pesticides. Where I live, people overuse pesticides and are afraid of eating anything. More and more people are getting cancer. I am also trying to grow vegetables and raise chickens to feed my small family. Please make more videos like this. Let's try to stay healthy and enjoy life from our small garden.

For all of you suggesting swales, that might be a great choice, but there are other options as well. This short video (filmed by a young woman on Majorca) shows how some lands might benefit better from rock berms (but also shows a piece of land where she installs a swale, for balance). Good stuff! Since Eugenia’s land is quite rocky, perhaps the rock berms would be a good option, or at least an additional consideration. (Side note: I love the use of Vetiver by the berm walls to help absorption!)

Dear Eugenia, your vlogs are always so peaceful and full of information. Thank you. Please look up the great green wall, Africa. They are creating half moon dirt structures for planting crops these hold the water on the land etc. It is an ancient technique for farming that they are reintroducing to the locals and its working. I am thinking this may work for your new garden area and possibly for the new trees you want to plant in the future. Hope it inspires you for your land projects.
