- Karl's infamous comment comparing Vicky Lucas (the girl with the big head), the subject of the BBC documentary 'What Are You Staring At?' to something from 'Bo Selecta!' She was considerably offended by this and later criticised Gervais, Merchant and Pilkington in this article for BBC disability magazine 'Ouch':

The fact that she didn't pursue any official complaint shows the she is a bigger person than Karl, certainly....head-wise.... - Приколы
In her blog, she was having a go at Ricky for laughing, this was totally spontaneous and he laughed. You cant help it if you find something funny, even if its wrong. When someone throws an offensive joke at you, sometimes you laugh, even though you know you shouldn't, but you cant help it.
Plus Karl only said what we were all thinking, anyone who says they don't is lying... Hell, she even referrers to herself as Buzz Lightyear.
Her angry part came from the "not real people" comment. Which is a bit offensive, but Karl does not have a filter and was mainly speaking of people you don't know not seeming real. Regardless I agree reaction was overdone and Karl takes it as good as he gives it, the 2 are close to a Buzz Lighteyear and Hamm head reunion.
Account28001 I'm on the fence about this because Ricky is saying to Karl that he SHOULD realise that they're real people when he makes comments. Karl saying that they "don't look like real people" seemed like a pretty innocent comment, because most people who are severely disabled/deformed would have to admit that they don't look like real people. On the other hand, Karl saying the Bo Selecta thing again was out of order, and if it's true about the letter it does make him look like a dick. I don't think Ricky or Steve can be blamed too much: they give Karl free reign to spout his gibberish, and if they make jokes it's usually because it just comes to them at the time. They don't set out to belittle people.
Karl reminds me of a woman I worked with. A sweet person, very good at her job and she had her own way of viewing things. I remember I nearly died when we were talking about fish and she said "I didn't know fish had insides....by the way where are the insides?" We had Sylvia fussing at her and replying with "Where F do you think they are, on the inside of the GD fish." I thought I was going to die from laughter that day.
Ricky isn't laughing at her having a big head, he's laughing at Karl's ignorance. Karl isn't a horrible person, he seems quite compassionate, but he's simple minded... as in he just says what he sees, he doesn't think it's offensive. He doesn't intend to harm somebody.
Karl is an actor. His simple mindness is an act.
Erik Högman He's not an actor though, so you're completely wrong there.
EvilToaster oh yes he is
Erik Högman yeah mate yeah mate yeah mate yeah mate yeah mate yeah mate yeah mate
Erik Högman The fact that Karl Pilkington plays up his own simple-mindedness as the basis for his act does not imply that his simple-mindedness is not real.
I thought Karl was being harsh at first, then I saw her picture and realised that Karl was bang on with his Bo Selecta comparison.
The thing is... and this is the painful bit.... KARL IS RIGHT.
How can people be so fucking hypocritical and go off on Karl, he's just saying what we are all thinking. Sure it's likely offensive, but to not acknowledge our definition of "normal" is just being ignorant init? She herself even recognizes that she is different. Would she be anything but a nobody had she not had that chin?
When Ricky is laughing, it's just at how preposterous Karl's comments are, he speaks his mind even if it's about things that other people would sway from because they believe it to be faux pas.
Sidenote: When he says they don't look like "real people" he doesn't mean to be derogatory. He says that about for example "siamese twins" the word is harmless, it's peoples implication in using the words derogatorily that matters.
I'd agree if the woman herself hadn't said how hurt she was by what he said. Imagine going through your life being laughed at because of how you look then a famous person takes the piss out of you publicly.
"That girl was on withabig ed....... like Bo Selecta."
hahah i think the best bit is where in a few episodes later and steve says "the fact she didnt peruse any complaints futher shows shes a bigger person that you karl... certainly head wise"
Haha That's a right line.
what episode does steve say the headwise line? looking on pilkipedia is so aggravating. the thread is called "bigger person than karl, certainly...headwise" but at no point is the date of that episode given.
She took massive offence to this and ended up going to the press over it!
I don't think this was too offensive as there was no malicious intent, and anyway, I've laughed at unfortunate people before, everyone has, so I'm not about to get on my high horse :)
People joke about religion, fat people, ugly people, stupid people & everything in between. Just because you don't find it funny doesn't mean the person has to apologise for it. There is a thing called freedom of speech, the freedom to say what you want. If said on a public forum (like this) it is open to criticism but just because someone gets offended doesn't mean the speaker should apologise for saying it. Offense is subjective anyway, I found it funny. So why say sorry?
What season was this?

He's not wrong though
cheers for the upload, andyns took his off, 'its like bo selecta!' genious comparison karl haha
Well yeah, that's the point.
If you say "you shouldn't treat them any differently" or "you shouldn't have any problem with it" then.. no harm done, right? Now we can disfigure people all we want, there's no negative result.
Sometimes you have to feel bad. it's okay to feel bad sometimes, especially if there's a valid reason.. nowadays people just recoil in horror from the slightest personal offense or discomfort.
You say that now, but down the track you will get bothered when people come up to you and laugh at you and treat you like shit.
Well personally I found it funny cause it WAS so unbelievably shocking, like "How can he say that?!"
Fucking hilarious. Get a grip people.
Oo god.. Where is the whole show?
Don't google her lmao
love it!!!! at the end when ricky laughs he sounds like a chicken!! lol
0:47 Amazing
cruel but so true.
I understand why you & many others would see singling out Victoria as the joke might seem like bullying. But something will always be the punchline. I don't see why joking about Victorias head is different to joking about Rik Wallers size or joking about a Jews nose or an English mans teeth. It might come across as cruel but that's just some jokes. Plus, what was said in this particular clip isn't really THAT offensive. Just my opinion though.
Christ sometimes I can’t believe what comes out of his mouth honestly, speechless ahahahahaha
PLAY A RECORD!
I have multiple sclerosis. Get a grip.
No I wouldn't. I wouldn't be at all bothered.
she has actually made a complaint or wrote about it in may 2013 on her blog
Doesn't bother me in the slightest
We need the full clip
Funniest thing i've ever listened to. Karl is a legend! Hahaha.
It's tongue-in-cheek but still funny!
If you wanna see another freak. Check out Vicky Lucas's sister Mike Lucas on youtube his channel is Nukemz.
its funny cuz he sed wot we were all thinking
thas bullying
It is hard because they don't look like real people.
How is that funny?
Really, I have heard funny, that is just disgusting and out of taste.
Pablo Grant haha
Because It's Karl's ignorance what is actually funny. Not the person he's referring to.
@Eldomina22 No... I'm just not a PC nutcase like most people seem to be these days. If you applied this whole not causing offense thing to everything, 95% of comedy would be wiped off the map, but hey, at least no one would get offended.
karl cracks me up.every time. they dont look like real people. hahaha
Making a joke about someone's appearance once isn't bullying. Get a grip
Political Correctness or not it's funny as hell
@Eldomina22 Don't put it on then, simples :-D
Come on don't be silly, you clearly are intelligent as you understand that offense is subjective. There is a difference between a distasteful and possibly 'hateful' joke and bullying.
So if you saw someone on the street with lets say a massive chin, then you made a joke about that chin, that would be bullying?
thats rude she's a person just like us
Yes it is, she was born that way she can't help it. If someone laughed at your disfigurements you would be offended also. Stop being immature.
Nah
she looks a bit like buzz lightyear.
Ricky Gervais is a brave hero!
Funny stuff, can't stand her over reaction on the whole matter though, she takes herself far too seriously! You have to be able to laugh at these things, there are people worse off than you, love!
brilliant
hahahaha hilarious! fair play karl
karl is brilliant, they dont look like real people. hahahahaahaha
karl you are rude
Really? How is he being brave when he bullies the disabled?
He is disabled he doesn’t mean to offend.
Why does he have to be being brave? Can’t it just be funny?
Shaun Scullion there’s nothing funny about bullying the disabled
@@sparkly21its only banter
@@bben5687 No, it’s not. It’s discrimination against people with a disability, and it’s clear that you’ve got no respect for those with disabilities.
yeah you guys laugh but wait till someone you know has it. or even yourself. how mean
codita13 i laughed and I have a friend with an elephant head! In fact my mate laughed to while shovelling peanuts in to hisbig gob.
Bo selecta head syndrome
