    Wasn't expecting to see a pair up mechanic

      Ideally I'd modify things so Mounted Units can only Pair Up with non-Mounted Units. The Mount shares its movement type and range with the Rider. But the engine doesn't allow that. Oh well. An idea to keep in my back pocket if I ever make my own Tactical RPG.

    I am interested in seeing where this goes. I've always disliked how swingy 1 roll rng games are. They reduce the impact of skill too much for my taste, and they frequently make abilities that bypass rng optimal. That's why the way to get good at XCom basically boils down to, use stuff that deals guaranteed damage.
    I much prefer limited rng like in Advance Wars or even better averaged by volume rng like Dai Senryaku 7 Exceed.

    • @CowCommando
      @CowCommando 4 месяца назад +2

      For the not familiar, in Dai Senryaku 7 Exceed, each unit is typically 10 sub units and all sub units attack and are damaged individually, so 50% to hit usually lands about 5 hits out of the 10 (if your unit is at full strength). You usually land at least 2 hits if really bad luck strikes and land 8 if you're super lucky. Combine that with how health and damage work, and suddenly making sure having the right unit for a task far outweighs luck. Luck still plays a role, but the volume of rolls involved in even a single game round means it tends to average out to predictable results so that your unit selection and placement far outweigh luck as the final determiner of success or failure.

      With very rare exception, Advance Wars is definitely the better strategy game series between the two main IntSys franchises. The only times I felt like I had to really work on my strategy in Fire Emblem was Hector Hard Mode in FE7, and the Daein side of Radiant Dawn. (which comprises about 30% of that game; Ike's side is just busted beyond belief, and War-God Haar trivializes everything else.)

      Call me crazy but I don't think RNG belongs in tactics games. RNG is only used in RPGs to artificially add unpredictability to incredibly stale RPG systems. And then it became something people throw into their games without thinking like stamina meters and mining trees and crafting. The boat in the new EA Pirate game has a stamina meter. RNG artificially adds tension to games like Pokemon because any attack could theoretically miss or crit or trigger bonus item/ability/move effects, but it isn't something you can honestly strategize around. Serene Grace Ancientpower strats rely on luck.

      @@JasonGodwin69 I hear you. More than once, I've pondered what an RNG free tactics/strategy game would look like. That's part of why I'm so curious as to what you come up with. I want to see how much our ideas differ.

      @@sheanstanks In a vacuum bows having 5 range makes them better than the 2-range bows we're used to. But this game overhauls a lot of systems. We'll need the final version playtested to really know how balanced or unbalanced it is.

    • @JasonGodwin69
      @JasonGodwin69  4 месяца назад

      I changed the system, Knights have Armor and Cavs don't. Armor halves damage taken from Bows and Stab/Slash damage. No inherent weaknesses to Smash damage, but they still take 2x from Magic damage.
