- The classic S&W Military & Police revolver. It has been made with only minor design changes for over 100 years. They were made in blue and nickel finish. 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 inch barrels. Round or square butt grip frames.
This one was made in the 1970s. 4 inch barrel, blue, square butt grip frame. The most common configuration of the M&P revolver. Made in the 1970s.
Shout out for MyHollowpoint.

My dad had a 10-5 when he came from Vietnam and got a job as a Correctional Officer in the early 70's. As of 2 years ago, after his passing, I inherited it. Only took to the range once with it and I have zero plans of selling it ever.
You should do a video with it sometime.
I too have the Model 10-5 made in 1962 I believe with its diamond wood grips and its 5 inch standard pencil barrel which is my favorite barrel configuration over the bull barrel and it's in near mint condition !!!!
I have a nickel 10-5 with a 5 inch barrel.
What a great revolver you have! I own a similar with a D s/n and 10-5, tapered bbl. Have owned since 1982! Solid built, no issues since owning. Fired lots, +p, and standard RNL. My first Duty Pistol as a LEO. Enjoy! Lt Scott(Ret)
Pretty hard to wear one of these out.
I always appreciate the classics. Thanks for keeping them alive!
Glad you like them!
That one is in beauty condition. Thanks for entertaining us with your knowledge and fine collection.
Glad you enjoyed it
These with the heavy barrels is what I started my daughter's on, wonderfull revolvers. One of my girls owns it now and still uses it pretty regularly after more than 30 years, I own the other one. Good memories. Thanks for the vid.
Unless they are abused, you can`t hardly wear one of these out.
@@1957Shep That is a fact, 2-3 hundred rounds each, every time we went out,and we went out often, I spent a lot of time reloading for those girls, but it paid off.
Man, I miss Chuck! He has some amazing guns in his collection!
A lot of people get burnt out on doing videos.
I love the old pencil barrel models. I a Have a 10-5 2” square butt. i also have a 10-8 that was a Michigan State Police Gun. It’s a 10-8 pinned barrel round butt 2 1/2 inch heavy barrel with a full Length ejector Rod. They only r released 108 to the public about 22 years ago. I shoot the dash 5 and that one basically stays in the safe.
You should do a video with them sometime.
A beautiful classic!
Thanks
My favorite revolver.. I really want to get one of this
They made millions of them, so they are not hard to find. As long as you are not too fussy about the condition of the finish. Many were police guns. Carried a lot, but shot very little.
Nice and fun shooter.
Thanks.
U welcome
It's always good to see a Smith & Wesson revolver in your videos, Shep! I always look forward to your videos and I get big grin when I see a video by you in my RUclips subscriptions list.
I have a Model 10-6 with the heavy barrel and square butt frame. It came with Magna grips. It seems to be a low round count revolver that hasn't seen much use. I also have a Model 64-1 with heavy barrel and square butt frame. It has a Hogue combat mono grip.
I have a video uploaded of a model 64 no dash with the taper barrel. Don`t remember when it is supposed to go live. I`ve been trying to get enough videos made so that I have a couple per week all winter.
I just looked it up. That model 64 video doesn`t go live until Oct. 17th.
Old School! The Best! ❤👍
Thanks
I got the same model. Love it
You should do a video with it sometime.
hey Shep. It is not a well known fact outside of certain "Gun circles" but the Model 10 was/is the most mass produced Revolver in the world. They are outstanding in many ways. I agree with You about the proper Grip config being square instead of round.
The square butt frame just feels right in my hand. But it is just personal preference.
Handsome weapon.
Thanks.
Just picked one up!!!!
You should do a video with it sometime.
@@1957Shep I want to trace the serial number, to find out it’s history, do you know where I could start?

One of my buddies has a Model 10-3 tapered barrel and square butt. I found a very nice 64-5 I couldn't pass on. I found I shoot the round butt with heavy barrel better.
I still want to get a model 10 like that, but my 64 is my favorite of my guns.
I appreciate your channel very much
Thanks.
Really nice classic american revolver. I will buy this one as a secondary gun for hunting. Greetings from Germany!
Glad you enjoyed the video.
Toda una obra de arte hermoso revolver felicitaciones 👏 un abrazo desde Colombia 🇨🇴🇨🇴
Mine was made in 1968 and has foreign markings on it. An old police gun and it was pretty beat up. I stripped it down and buffed out all the scratches and reblued it. It now has a black matte finish to it. Not as nice as yours but just happy to own one.
They are excellent little revolvers.
I love the pencil barreled model 10’s. If I ever come across one as nice as yours, I’ll buy it if the price is right.
They are getting harder to find in nice condition, but there are a lot of them out there. They must have made well over a million of them.
I have a 10-5. I found it last spring in a gun shop. It was somebody’s safe queen. It was calling to me. I bought it on the spot. It shoots better than it looks it is my favorite. Thanks for your great videos
Thanks.
How much did you pay
I have a 10-5 in nickel, a very smooth revolver. I'm a fan of nickel revolvers, they used to be much more common.
I`ve got a 5 inch in nickel.
I must have missed your upload for the inspection guide while I was away from the internet for a month. That is probably the video I've wanted most from you.
It`s pretty hard to wear out a S&W revolver unless it`s been abused. The Colt actions were a lot more prone to wear. I`d check those really close if they looked like they had been used a lot.
@@1957Shep I was thinking more in terms of your expertise in recognizing something special or valuable.
this is next for my collection, but im thinking about getting a modern offering from the shop.
They are good revolvers.
Good to see you back! I bought the nickel version of this one about a year ago after seeing the one you had. I had been checking your channel for the longest to see if you were back. 👍🏼
For quite a while I really didn`t have the free time for RUclips. But now that I`m retired, I`ve got the time to get back into it.
It seems so hard to find the tapered-barrel Model 10's now. My dream version would be a tapered-barrel with a round butt; I think they're rare.
Don`t recall ever seeing one with the old tapered barrel with a round butt. But that doesn`t mean anything. Over the years they made the model 10 in about every configuration possible. A couple years ago I saw one marked as a model 10, but chambered for 32 H&R Mag instead of 38 special. It had police markings. So my best guess was that some police dept. special ordered a batch of them in that caliber.
@@1957Shep What an anomaly! Thanks for sharing, Shep!
I was issued one in Vietnam.
The military bought a lot of these over the years.
Shiny! 😍
Thanks.
Mine is pretty roached but the single action is the best I've ever felt
S&W actions tend to get smoother with use. At least up to a point.
I hope to get my hands on one shortly, it’s barely been fired and it’s going for less than 500
Grab it. These days, that`s a good price.
Something about this revolver intrigues me like the mauser broomhandle
It is a classic. Not fancy, it just works.
Never really understood shooting a double-action revolver in single-action...unless you're trying to make a long distance shot.
They are called double action/single action revolvers instead of double action revolvers for a reason.
This pistol still in service with malaysian police..pretty accurate easy to aim than walter p99 in my opinion..
I know a few older (or retired) police officers who still keep these as a house gun, or carry them as an off duty gun.
@@1957Shep yup..u right..i'm the very new generation but still big fan of this pistol..😅..
I love mine, its nickel plated 4"bbl. Slim barrel like yours. I've seen some said you can shoot +P ammo and others say no. I know it was made(mine) prior to +P ammo. Their reasoning why you could was that ammo back in the day had higher loads than todays factory loads of most companys. Not buffalo bore or ones like that of course. I tried some through it, no problems. But wonder if I should nix that idea. Any thoughts on that?
I have heard it both ways. Some say any of them made after 57 is ok for +P and some say any made after the mid 80s is ok for +P. I never really worried about it because I never use 38 +P ammo at all in any gun. I have a lot of guns chambered for 38 Special and a lot of guns chambered for 357 Magnum. If I want more power than a 38, I just use one of the 357s.

Thanks
🙂👍
Thanks.
Is that type the Barne one bullet gun ?
No. I think what Don Knotts had in the Andy Griffith Show was a Colt Official Police revolver. Very similar to this gun.
Hello there.
Are the 10-5 safe for plus P rounds? I just got the same gun you have. Thx!
They are not designed for +P
In a S&W forum are some discussions about that. The point is that early .38 special were loaded very hot but werent called +p. Someone posted an old S&W advertisement from 1930 where they praised the .38 special as powerful caliber that get 960fps with a 158gr bullet. So that is what we call today +p. But what maybe can cause problems are these hot loads with 125 or even 110gr bullets. There is much more pressure and hot gases and I dont think they had those loads in the old days.
@@Gieszkanne I would NOT dare buy that new high pressured ammo to put through my 10-5 just the good ole standard 158 gr. LRN ammo for practice or even home defense !!!
Can we get a cleaning video?
Not much to cleaning a revolver like this one. Open the cylinder. Swab out the chambers and the barrel. Clean any powder residue that you can see. Put a couple drops of oil into the frame at the trigger and hammer. Wipe down the gun with an oily rag so that you leave a very light film of oil to protect the finish from rust during storage.
Every 2 or 3 years you might want to remove the grips just to make sure that no rust is forming under them.
You really should not disassemble one of these on a regular basis unless there is something wrong with it and it needs worked on.
The #1 way that revolvers get damaged (especially the springs) is by people taking them apart and putting them back together without really knowing how and/or not having the proper tools to do it.
As part time police officers in my country, we being issued with that relvover. my relvover serial number was 6D21406, I don't know what years its make. perhaps someone can check its out....
That serial number would have been made in 1980.
I just inherited one from my father. How do I find out what year it was made?
Far as I know there is not any place online that you can find out. S&W serial numbers years of manufacture are copyrighted in the Standard Catalog Of Smith & Wesson. If you give me the serial number I can look it up for you. Or you could ask on one of the S&W Forums.

Harga berapa om
My husband got 1970s they wana buy it &500 but he denied,
If its in nice condition $500 would be kind of low these days. Depending on how good the condition is they might sell anywhere from $250 to $700.
