  • Gen. Petraeus tells ABC News there's no way for Russia to win even with nuclear escalation.
Russia has no path to victory in its war against Ukraine even with the threat of nuclear escalation says Gen. David Petraeus on ABC's "This Week."
Russia attacked the Ukrainian president’s hometown and other targets Sunday with suicide drones, and Ukraine took back full control of a strategic eastern city in a counteroffensive that has reshaped the war.
Russia’s loss of the eastern city of Lyman, which it had been using as a transport and logistics hub, is a new blow to the Kremlin as it seeks to escalate the war by illegally annexing four regions of Ukraine and heightening threats to use nuclear force.
Russian President Vladimir Putin's land grab has threatened to push the conflict to a dangerous new level. It also prompted Ukraine to formally apply for fast-track NATO membership.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Sunday that his forces now control Lyman: “As of 12:30 p.m. (0930 GMT) Lyman is cleared fully. Thank you to our militaries, our warriors," he said in a video address.
Russia's military didn't comment Sunday on Lyman, after announcing Saturday that it was withdrawing its forces there to more favorable positions.

Exactly bro, Why would the kremlin retreat his troops completely and give back the key cities. You would think he has accepted defeat. he has threatened to use Nuclear weapons, and to the majority these are empty threats. But this is a government that is desperate for success, Russia is feared by its neighbors for a reason. The Kremlins about to show the world what he’s really about. 🧨
And in No way am I siding with the Kremlin, I am just stating NATO and Ukraine are underestimating The Russian Government’s desperate need for Validation.

The last time a nuclear weapon was used in war, only one country had access to that power... and it was limited power. When multiple nations have a vast supply of nukes with far greater power than what was used against Japan, it's an unthinkable option. The USA did not set a precedent in the Atomic bombing of Japan. First, Japan had attacked the USA and started the war. Second, after the USA understood the devastation of the atomic bomb, the USA has not used one. The precedents set by the USA are better found in wars in which the USA did not win conclusively but did not use nor threaten to use nuclear weapons, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Viet Nam and Korea. These were five wars the USA engaged in, eventually pulled out of without a clear victory and DID NOT use nuclear weapons.

It's about denying the west or Ukraine from possessing the area of eastern Ukraine that does not border Russia. The reason being that he has to keep Turkmenistan from building an oil and gas pipeline to Europe that bypasses Russia through the Caspian sea. This is what the war in Syria was about too. That pipeline was from Saudi Arabia. This way, Russia still has outsized influence over Europe because they control it's largest source of energy.

If Putin decide to use nuclear weapons, he will also have to decide the targets.
If he were to use them against civilians in cities, he would be left with North Korea as his only friend.
If he target some military base, just about empty of soldiers, or he bomb some weapons storage area, also not filled to the brim with the most advanced weapons, it would be very costly considered the damage inflicted and a damage that could be done by conventional methods anyway.
If he were to use it at some strategic point, somewhere along the front, not only Ukrainians, but also Russian soldiers would be burnt to crisp; how many Russians would accept that as being OK..?

If I am Putin, I will put the 300000+ reservists on the frontline, move all his elite troops underground with enough food to last 6-12 months. Launch 2 tactical nukes on Western Ukraine, 1 in Lviv and 1 Uzhhorod and demand Ukraine to surrender immediately. Any firing from any NATO members will trigger WW3. Cut off all back channel communications with the West. 2nd wave of low‐yielded nukes will be next if Ukraine does not surrender in 1 week. NATO playbook after that is self-assured destruction or give up Ukraine.I hate to say it but I choose the latter and so will NATO.
