Why didn't Retton go to the Worlds 1985??
akimbohr USA gym would not send her because they felt she did not train enough so she was not able to qualify. She skipped nationals and also trials. She retired.
@@admetric Remember hearing that it was mainly political, which was why she retired.
It is interesting, MLR never really competed against the world's best. The Soviets (the best at that time), and the East Germans did not compete in L.A. She never competed in Worlds, and her American Cup victories were not against the best (at that time) from any of the countries that sent gymnasts.

And compete against Shushunova and Omeilianchik? She was smart to retire

I would love to see some Russian footage from meets from the 80s but have rarely seen anything here on RUclips.
At the time, ABC had the Olympics and basically had International sports coverage down to a tee. NBC and CBS were just starting to get really into it
