  • A bioactive build for ANYONE. My Solomon Island Ground Boa needs an upgrade and we're on a budget. Let's make him a new, tropical jungle enclosure in a plastic bin. Bromeliads seemed like a great choice because Candoia love a good drink and these plants hold water really well. This species is notorious for producing a lot of poo n' urates, but I have no doubt the isopods and springtails have got it covered. Zephyr is also semi arboreal, so I know that he will appreciate a bit of height. As always, let me know what you'd like to see next. ENJOY!

    Bioactive vivariums, (even the cheap ones!), make excellent and enriching homes for countless reptiles and amphibians being kept in captivity. They emulate their wild environments in a truly beautiful way, and utilize a "clean up crew" to create a nearly maintenance free setup. An enclosure very similar to this would make a perfect home for a variety of tree frogs, arboreal lizards, and even some snakes like my Candoia paulsoni.

    This is an interesting approach to a bioactive enclosure, one that I might actually do. Because in my area, we have a couple of really invasive species, namely the green anole, and the Mediterranean House gecko. I don't want to kill the couple, that I found in my house, so I think I might just set up a couple of these.

      I actually have a set up similar to this for my breeding colonies of both the lizards you mentioned, also for my brown anoles! I breed them as feeders for my vine snake, west African bush viper and blue Indonesian bush viper!

    I referenced this build to make my makeshift Green tree frog enclosure! Because I have to move out from parents home soon and take down my main terrarium I wanted something that is easy to move around and easy on the wallet. This was perfect and I got to recycle a lot of the bioactive soil from my main enclosure :D

    I prefer to use a drill myself, because I don't care to solder plastic and release VOCs into the air - and I found a drill bit that is specifically for drilling smooth holes in plastic! It works *amazing* and it was only $18. Every hole is smooth inside and out and the bins don't crack. That will forever be my go to for drilling ventilation holes in plastic bins, now! I thought the DIY mesh top was a cool idea! Wonder if at some point anyone has tried stacking bins, sealing them together, and using that to make a budget arboreal enclosure for tree-loving snakes? That could be very cool, if done right ^_^

    if you don't have any power tools to cut plastic tubes, go to Harbor Freight and buy a $30 dremmel. Much better for this than a jigsaw

    I did almost exactly this except I made a screen using the sides and spline and then glued it over the hole I cut out in the top. It did add like another $25, though.

    • @stephanaeon
      @stephanaeon 6 месяцев назад

      I see comments all the time talking about how much people like his voice. I'm willing to bet there's a little jealousy involved in your friends actions :) I had a friend in school who's voice was so low it would carry through the floor if he was upstairs you'd hear him one floor down. It was like crazy low, and even though he wasn't a great looking dude so many girls would find themselves attracted to him between his confidence and that low voice. So don't feel bad about it! Honestly it's better than having a real high squeaky one :)

    How much of a fire hazard was the situation with the heat pad? It's been a year since this vid came out so I'm curious.
    I wanna try a similar budget build but I'm worried heating equipment would melt plastic and fill the container with fumes?

    • @whentheyD
      @whentheyD 5 месяцев назад

      likely it wasn't his first rodeo with it and he knew what he was doing. just make sure the plastic doesn't melt and the heatpad doesn't overwork!
      as he said
