Hey dude, I work at a pet shop, and we use flies to feed our amphibians. If you tap the container on the ground while it is open, and before you close it, you can prevent many of the flies from escaping, and avoid crushing them under the lid when you close it. Hope this helps!
Another trick is to put the container in the fridge for a while as they slow down when they get cold making it a lot easier to handle them. This even works making it possible to handle the normal flying ones.
i would have thought to make a little spout/faucet that comes out of the side and you can open it after its connected to an opening on the terrarium wall
It's weird to think that this isn't normal for other people, here in se asia there are always gecko armies in almost all houses. Baby geckos are regularly born on my messy desk popping out cute little goofy lizards.

lol from what I've noticed the adult girls don't actually eat the babies once they hatch. They'll nip off each others tails or toes but the babies do a great job of hiding. However, the adults will crack open the eggs and eat the yolk of their own eggs and any other ones in there. I used to do flies twice a week and you don't need to put calcium on them. They get more than enough from their powdered food. Or you can mix some extra calcium in with their food. And I introduced flies to them about a week after they hatched. Sometime sooner depending on how fast they absorbed their yolk. You don't need to do anything except sit back and watch them hunt. They also like isopods which give them a lot of calcium. They just need to be softer shelled.
you're definitly right about enjoying the eggs. Not sure if you caught them moment where they laid on the wall, but that egg vanished within a day. Im almost 100% sure they made a nice meal of it
@@leafystreet 😂 probably did! I don't have my girls anymore, there were too many. I do remember that my original girl would eat all the eggs that the other girls would lay. Her name was Sappho and she had like 7 babies in the time I had her. She started popping them out as soon as she reached maturity. Her first 2-3 were infertile but soon all her babies were having babies so I just left the eggs in there and took out the tiny babies when they came out of hiding. Saph was the alpha though. Kept her girls in line and they knew not to mess with her. I made them each a little house when they were tiny cause even the hatchlings would fight.Chirping up a storm at each other and whipping their little tails. Lol there was this one little baby that got so excited by the flies she tried eating her sister's toe cause she thought it was one. 😂 they're so fast! I still have tons of videos and pics of them on my Instagram. They LOVE flowers, especially the hatchlings. I just used fake ones and gave them a really good clean before putting them in there. Sorry to talk your ear off, I just really love Mourning Geckos 😁
If you put the fly tubs in the fridge for 5-10 minutes before feeding time, it slows down the flies so they don't escape as much when you're trying to collect some. Just tap what you need into another container, put the lid back on, and apply whichever powder supplement for the day's bugs.

@@Papaya_penetrator372So they kind of are in a way. This specific kind of gecko, called mourning geckos, reproduces asexually through a process called parthenogenesis. They really only have females in the species, so essentially they decided they didn't need no man and started just having babies by themselves, with the help of other females to stimulate the egg laying process. They don't technically need that either, they can start reproducing without another tank mate as well.
I really love this lil' lesbian community of geckos that you painstakingly took a FULL YEAR to film and produce. I'm almost curious if you've spent any time checking to see if you randomly get a male (although potentially useless/infertile, like you mentioned). The growth on that tank is gorgeous, and super great idea adding the springtails and isopods. Can't have bioactive without those little helpers. 🖤

So glad to hear that the army is growing! This man has inspired me to get my own mourning gecko. My own little lady scurried out of her tank pretty quick when I went to go check on her, but I finally managed to lure her back in with some banana! I'm so glad my girl is safe, but I'm DEFINITELY gonna take some time to get her used to me and being handled.
You can put fruit flies in the freezer for 1 - 2 minutes to slow them down. Then you pour them in and shut the door on the enclosure so they wake up in there with the geckos. Awesome video!
