    As soon as I saw the Honeywell stat I was saying out loud “Curtis, check the wiring, someone probably wired the heat to W instead of W2”. My wife just looking at me like I’m crazy talking to the screen. Happens way too often!

    That's crazy, I think someone was tinkering with it. I had to run a "c" wire to mine to power it, the old one used batteries. I just picked a wire that wasn't being used, orange I think, and hooked it up to the c on the board which had a white wire on it. I also had to jump a wire on the thermostat. Point I'm trying to make is I could pick any color wire that wasn't being used, so you can't always trust color codes, especially on old units.

    I had this happen at my dad's house. POS Honeywell thermostat lost it's brains and started calling for heat. He called me up and said "I think the thermostat crapped out, it's hotter than hell in here". Fortunately it was only about 30F out. Put a new thermostat in and I saved the old one to incinerate it by applying 480V across the battery contacts, a fitting end for such a piece of crap.

    Had an issue with my former Nexia thermostat a few years back. They were doing some software update and everyone’s thermostat was affected. When I walked into my home, I was hit with a wall of heat. It was over 90 degrees inside. The thermostat said it was 68 degrees and it showed the furnace was at idle. Of course the furnace was operating in second stage heat, non-stop. If I hadn’t come home when I did, my dogs and cats probably would have had heat stroke. I had to power cycle the thermostat to reboot it, and it came back to life after being frozen. All anyone got was an email saying sorry 🤷‍♂️🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

      lol very true but it takes a special someone to wire it wrong like that. I am suspicious that whoever did it wanted a call back for money and didn't get it but who knows-- maybe just someone thinking they knew what they were doing and didnt, did it. but its pretty straight forward wiring these

      I was thinking the same thing, Honeywell may have had a bad batch of thermostats, just defective I hope. Mine is a Honeywell, one of those smart thermostats, expensive bastard, so I hope it is ok.

    • @Wilsontrax
      @Wilsontrax Год назад

      it's not honeywell as a whole, but more the T6/T6 Pros. I like those thermostats but we have had multiple problems with them ourselves. We had a whole year of us having to go back and it was always those T6s/Pros. Honeywell is the brand itself and although we have problem with the 9000s, they are a lot better than the T6s. tbf very rarely had problem with the 6000s but people dont like those anymore

    Dragging your tool back across the top of a brand new unit is a good way to scratch it up. I have the tech pack Mc version so it only comes out on major repairs, I usually just grab my miniature Milwaukee duffel bag style that way I don’t have to zip and un zip .. just reach in and grab what I need. I hope you have one of those pads to crouch down it save your knees and back ..

    I posted a comment on your video of yesterday. And I mentioned that on the Honeywell T6 heat pump set up.
    YOU CANT hook on the W terminal.
    I spent two days scratching my head on the same problem about a month ago.
    Just use E terminal for emergency
    And W2 for heat pump

    Curtis, I couldn't see where the white wire was originally before you moved it. Where was it at?

    • @Wilsontrax
      @Wilsontrax Год назад

      I might be mistaken but it looks like someone put the White Wire in with the same terminal as the Reversing Vale (Orange.) either way definitely not the right slot. if it was with the Orange, then whenever the thermostat called for Cool it would also run the Heat Strips as the Reserving Valve is powered in Cool on that system and therefore power the heatstrips as well. That's why he wasn't getting any special readings otherwise prior to him seeing that at the thermostat. Guarantee (if it was indeed orange and white combined) if he checked amp draw on the 240 lines he would have seen around 20amps or 40amps (depending on size of heat strips.)

    • @HVACGUY
      @HVACGUY  Год назад +1

      It was on W, where it would go for a straight cool/heat system. It needs to go on Aux/E because it’s a heat pump
