As soon as I saw the Honeywell stat I was saying out loud “Curtis, check the wiring, someone probably wired the heat to W instead of W2”. My wife just looking at me like I’m crazy talking to the screen. Happens way too often!
Wish they all were that simple ... Good find and good fix ... Thx ...
That's crazy, I think someone was tinkering with it. I had to run a "c" wire to mine to power it, the old one used batteries. I just picked a wire that wasn't being used, orange I think, and hooked it up to the c on the board which had a white wire on it. I also had to jump a wire on the thermostat. Point I'm trying to make is I could pick any color wire that wasn't being used, so you can't always trust color codes, especially on old units.
all right find the problem good work. be bless and safe .
I had this happen at my dad's house. POS Honeywell thermostat lost it's brains and started calling for heat. He called me up and said "I think the thermostat crapped out, it's hotter than hell in here". Fortunately it was only about 30F out. Put a new thermostat in and I saved the old one to incinerate it by applying 480V across the battery contacts, a fitting end for such a piece of crap.
Well done Curtis, another happy customer 👍
Had an issue with my former Nexia thermostat a few years back. They were doing some software update and everyone’s thermostat was affected. When I walked into my home, I was hit with a wall of heat. It was over 90 degrees inside. The thermostat said it was 68 degrees and it showed the furnace was at idle. Of course the furnace was operating in second stage heat, non-stop. If I hadn’t come home when I did, my dogs and cats probably would have had heat stroke. I had to power cycle the thermostat to reboot it, and it came back to life after being frozen. All anyone got was an email saying sorry 🤷♂️🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Great troubleshooting Curtis
Tenets changed t stat didn’t know what they were doing 😂😂
I have run into that wiring issue on a quite a few installs that my company has installed. Some even installed by experienced techs, just rushing through the job trying to get done
Great investigative work Curtis‼️ I just wired one of these up on Monday here in Houston and yes for Heat Pumps it shouldn't have been wired to W terminal‼️
lol very true but it takes a special someone to wire it wrong like that. I am suspicious that whoever did it wanted a call back for money and didn't get it but who knows-- maybe just someone thinking they knew what they were doing and didnt, did it. but its pretty straight forward wiring these
@@Wilsontrax Either that or it was a homeowner job.
You saved the day
Awesome job thank you so much
Good fix. I thought the cops were coming to get you for a minute there lol😊
I'm personally done with the T6 Pros. I have about 15 of them left in stock then done!! VisionPro or Prestige is all I will install once they are gone.
My favorite FIELDPIECE meter.
The swivel head is soooo convenient.
Great tool.
GREAT Troubleshooting! I was thinking that surely you didn't have another bad Honeywell but wired wrong. I'll bet you feel good about that 😏
Thanks! 🇺🇸
I was thinking the same thing, Honeywell may have had a bad batch of thermostats, just defective I hope. Mine is a Honeywell, one of those smart thermostats, expensive bastard, so I hope it is ok.
it's not honeywell as a whole, but more the T6/T6 Pros. I like those thermostats but we have had multiple problems with them ourselves. We had a whole year of us having to go back and it was always those T6s/Pros. Honeywell is the brand itself and although we have problem with the 9000s, they are a lot better than the T6s. tbf very rarely had problem with the 6000s but people dont like those anymore
@@Wilsontrax Thanks
I had a similar problem. 7 1/2 ton carrier split heat pump is to be wired up conventionally. Someone configured it for heat pump. Had get into config and set it up conventional electric heat2/cool1
Dragging your tool back across the top of a brand new unit is a good way to scratch it up. I have the tech pack Mc version so it only comes out on major repairs, I usually just grab my miniature Milwaukee duffel bag style that way I don’t have to zip and un zip .. just reach in and grab what I need. I hope you have one of those pads to crouch down it save your knees and back ..
I posted a comment on your video of yesterday. And I mentioned that on the Honeywell T6 heat pump set up.
YOU CANT hook on the W terminal.
I spent two days scratching my head on the same problem about a month ago.
Just use E terminal for emergency
And W2 for heat pump
Better to be hot than cold 🥶
Except in the deep South!😄
I agree with that, southern boy. I'm thinking they haven't noticed until now because they were probably turning it off when it got warm enough before.
That's the first thing I thought about was the thermostat
This was a Major Issue now they put a Symbol there because W1 was always the way they were wired
Similar situation, furnace wont turn off even after thermostat is turned off. Still blowing cold air. Works fine with heating and cooling but instead of auto it looks like is on permanent on. Any suggestions?
About to start school any tips on like book or anything to help a new learner
Try to work while you go to school if you can.
We have 3 floors, 3 thermostats. Top floor wont shut off with the new thermostat. Other floors work as it should. Replaced the valve and cant figure out the problem. Help
😊😊👌👌
99.9°F?! No thank you!
Curtis, I couldn't see where the white wire was originally before you moved it. Where was it at?
I might be mistaken but it looks like someone put the White Wire in with the same terminal as the Reversing Vale (Orange.) either way definitely not the right slot. if it was with the Orange, then whenever the thermostat called for Cool it would also run the Heat Strips as the Reserving Valve is powered in Cool on that system and therefore power the heatstrips as well. That's why he wasn't getting any special readings otherwise prior to him seeing that at the thermostat. Guarantee (if it was indeed orange and white combined) if he checked amp draw on the 240 lines he would have seen around 20amps or 40amps (depending on size of heat strips.)
It was on W, where it would go for a straight cool/heat system. It needs to go on Aux/E because it’s a heat pump
@@HVACGUY awesome, thank you brother.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Do you have any videos on why my ac not blowing heat I'm in central Texas an its cold cold
I have a ton of no heat videos
@@HVACGUY ok thanks
easy peasy
Why would you want some kind of lcd thermostat. I have used the same one since the 80s. Not battery operated. Why do u need anything else?
No trap ?
Kind of like an ex girlfriend of mine; she was hot and I couldn't seem to cool her down. lol 🤭 Oh my goodness, someone found his razor; very good look.
1st YEET
Waste of time said nothing
Why didnt the homeowner just throw the breaker before the home got that hot?
most are not that smart. they could at least open ever window in the house
I don't know about you guys but I really missed the 6000 line of thermostats .
Yes, these new generation of Honeywell are ok. IMO, 6000'S are better.
