Nebuta Bayashi excerpts, incl. Korogashi, traditional, modified from Joe's study with Nimoku Gumi in Tokyo.
    Notes:
Created during Joe’s 2017~18 residency with the Sydney-based ensemble TAIKOZ, "Propel" simply aims to ‘propel’ the spirits of audience and performers alike through energizing interplay and choreography.
    Nebuta-based Introduction Notes:
Inspired by Joe's ongoing research and activities in Nebuta festival music and dance through the Nimoku Gumi group in Tokyo, and visits to and participation in Aomori City's annual Nebuta festival, Propel's 2024 arrangement finds inspiration in and invokes the spirit of the festival -- finding 'propulsion' in the Nebuta's playful melodies, rhythms, and jumping dance.
