You can break the cycle of hatred, but you cannot break the cycle of the grind. The servants of the snail will grind forever until the last spark of life is extinguished in their souls
One thing I wanna point out: Zeke insisted that Reiner goes with Falco, while Colt and Porco were worried of the show starting soon. Obviously, Zeke knew what's got Falco's attention.
The war room scene is honestly pretty underrated too. Not only it confirms the Marley military's incompetence and the need for the large scale demolition, but it's also another of Reiner's veiled attempts. He simply does not want to go back to Paradis, so he purposefully shares legitimate intel but with conflicting suggestions, to make them confused and unsure on how to plan the operation. The guy ended up just dismissing him in the end, but I personally think Reiner saw that as a win too: He subtly managed to make the guy GIVE UP on interrogating him about crucial information on Paradis lmao
That may explain why Reiner suggestions are half assed. In the manga, the officer are polite to dismiss whereas the anime he is rude. The officer wanted to treat Reiner as an equal but his suggestions comes off as submissive and weak. I think you help recontextualize the war room scene. I always thought that Marley military needed to be purge was due to conflicting interest and to reshape Marley at cost of many lives.
The very subtle eerie piano from YouseeBIGGIRL/T:T OST playing at the end of the post-credits scene is that tiny **chef's kiss** to really send us back to the early s2 vibes of Ymir's cover being blown by the can of herring, and then Reiner's psyche breaking on the wall a few episodes later.
I literally jumped up and yelled when I first saw the end where Eren says "it's been 4 years Reiner". As you all may recall, this was still during Covid and things were kind of dark in reality. Funny how I found escape in a a dark fantasy series. Oh a belated apology to my neighbours in the apartment building.
When my boyfriend watched AOT for the first time, I had already seen it 2-3 times all the way through. We agreed that I was able to clarify certain things but not give any spoilers (a delicate line that I was very careful about). When we got to this episode, he was so confused during most of the MaGath-Willy convos. Missed the subtext completely (to be fair, I only picked up on it during a second watch). He kept trying to ask for clarifications on what the hell they were talking about, and all I could think to do without spoiling anything was to repeat MaGath’s line, “The house is full of rats! THE HOUSE IS FULL OF RATS, BABE!” It didn’t help much at the time, but, as is often the case with AOT, all became clear later.
One of the most funny details of the series is the sun. When Connie is riding Falco to his titan mother, they ride north, but the sun is setting on their starboard side, meaning it is the other way around. Flipped world map, flipped path of the sun. :D
6:32 *_*joins hands in prayer*_* 25:59 also, a great call back is when commander pyxis is interrogating Yelena and says if you're going to tell a convincing lie, there should be just a _dash_ of truth mixed in. that's what eren does while he's talking to falco - "his injuries are fake" and "after the festival he's going home"
I'm so excited for you to get to Declaration of War, it's such an incredible episode and it's my personal favorite by far. Yet another one of those examples of "Isayama somehow made recap/exposition 10x more interesting than an average show's entire plotline". This video was obv great as well but I'm so hype.
It’s so rare to agree with someone on something this often. Every video 90% of what you say is to the point that it’s joyful understanding, we can have a community that brings each other together, especially over a written masterpiece. Thanks for these videos. Somewhere on the internet we can appreciate without constantly arguing on meaning.
I agree that Magath despite being one of the main perpetrators of using titans as weapons, ironically he out of everyone was in the best position to change Marley from within if he had more time. Especially so because he also called that all of the main military leaders would likely be wiped out in Erens attack.
if eren or zeke died durning leberio attack, it's probably an option (if magath really take marley authority but it's still hard to say) i do believe out of possible outcome, it can be one of the few option with least victim, as long as paradis doesn't do any more ATTACK and focus on defense, a treaty is possible, all they had to do is reiner be middle man between paradis and magath but yes, the problem with it is, eren want to do the genocide, he admit it, even armin said eren could have just wipe out marley military (and united army) and call it a day, they would still have hundreds of collosal at disposal (and eren got founding titan so he can bend the rules easily), people woouldn't dare to attack them for hundreds years until real tech overwhelm titans, we wouldn't know how long they're survive but it still probably checks out eren MAIN objective: having his friend lives long, he doesn't care about eldian or paradis beyond it
Helos sounds a lot like Helios, the god of the sun. I think Helos is meant to be a simple of stepping into the “civilized light” of a world without eldian domination. As you said, it all being a lie is pretty ironic given how Eren shows the world that eldian power is not dead and threats of the rumbling were not hollow. Inside the walls was death (wall titans) rather than decay (emptiness).
Attack on Titan’s character/world building and the story to me is one of the best I’ve seen. I’m just really thankful that I got to witness it during this lifetime.
I watched all of this series over the last few weeks and this is my first time having to wait an episode. Ive been fiending for this! I dont even watch the Walking Dead but gonna check out that series too cuz i love your analysis
Koroto every time you are stressing about the long videos and length of videos and im expecting like hours ling videos 😂😂 one day i hope you do that for me lolol ramble that long please we love you
I love how the episode is not only just a great set up (even awesomely introducing a character that'll becoume of the "final squad" so to speak), but lots of thematic exploration cooking with such mastery. Willy is also such an amazing character and I would have love to see more of him in the series. But his iconic moment under the lightspot wouldn't have been so incredible without the excellent work done with his introduction. Anyways, I can't wait for the next episde, as it's such a peferct bounce off this one! But also just need that House of the Titan prequele now, like right now!!! Lots of thanks for this fantastic retrospective series, giving me the chance to enjoy so much more out of such an extraordinary show!!! 😁
Dude that scene with reiner and gabby talking about how they feel like things are about to change in a big way ( in the english dub) hit me harder than 99 percent of the series
Just finished my rewatch last week and have been bingeing through your analysis. It’s been my background noise getting me through work and chores 😂 Thank you~
Falco is like hey an old friend wants to see. He is excited to have his cool uncle reunited with an old friend only for Reiner to come face to face with the one person he probably doesn’t want to see. Agree falco’s expression during that end sene is just funny
34:07 i feel like reiner always being the one to pay is probably meant to drive home the guilt he feels, which he has to "pay" for. Like, everything in this show is symbolism, there is no way in hell this isnt too.
I just think it's kinda meant to drive home how much this war has affected him. The reiner we knew from paradis would have complained after the second time at most, but he just puts up with, sort of as a way to repent
The name of the Thunder Spears is a very on the nose call back to Erwin's speech in S3E5 about the Scouts being the "tip of the spear" in humanity's defense against the titan threat. Having a shield to defend with is not enough, you must strike with a spear to dispatch the enemy. This also gets referenced in S4E1 when the Marleyan Army refers to Zeke as their spear, and Reiner as their shield.
The grin that didnt want to fade during that episode for all the reasons possible i remember fondly. Glad you feel the same about that covo between Megath and Willy
Had a thought that might be worth looking into, a few episodes back you were waxing philosophical about titan height and size and one theory you put forward was the amount of spinal fluid, but I wonder if it might instead have to do with where on the spine the fluid is injected. So the closer to the base of the skull the bigger your titan is going to be and then the further down the spine the shorter the titan will be. This would be simple enough for Marley to figure out through trial and error and easy enough for people like brause to impliment so casually at the transformation site by the beach. Additionally it might explain why when people drink or inhale the fluid the get such a wide range of heights it’s just about where along the spine the fluid finally makes contact.
Curiously, when I watched AoT for the first time, the Orientals were called Asian in the episode about Mikasa's past. While it tracks with their visual design, it's interesting that this has been changed or at least been inconsistent depending on the translation.
I always love these videos because they give me such a better perspective on how to view both Attack on Titan and anime in general, I've started watching Naruto again this time with my girlfriend and I can't tell you how much these series has opened my eyes to how anime is showed and made. Forever will be my favorite RUclips series
Hi Koroto! I've rewatched AOT twice now, and I still have questions about the finale I'm hoping you can address in your Overanalyzing video when you get there. (Note, I have not read the Manga) First: why does the Rumbling stop when Zeke is killed? I know that the Founder needs to touch a titan with royal blood to use its abilities...but in the Paths, Ymir seems to stop being linked to Zeke and is linked exclusively to Eren, so she no longer listens to Zeke. Wouldn't this mean that Zeke is no longer needed? Second: if Zeke *is* needed for the Founder's powers to work... why can Eren still use freaky Titan abilities after Zeke is dead? For example, what gives Eren the power to transform into a Colossal Titan and battle Armin? If it's because of Ymir building the bodies of the Titans, and Eren controlling Ymir, then it makes no sense for the Rumbling to have stopped with Zeke's death. (And Eren becoming a Colossal really makes no logical sense, it seems like fan service to me.) Lastly: there's no way that 80% of the population would be killed by the Rumbling in the amount of time established. If I remember right, Hange said that most of Marley would be destroyed in 4 days. So obviously they stop Eren in less than that, because the Rumbling ends in Marley. How, then, does 80% of HUMANITY become eliminated?? We know that there are populations who live outside of just the Marleyan continent. It just seems like an embellishment for dramatic effect, and a direct contradiction. Maybe it's a translation thing, and really Isayama was trying to convey that 80% of Marley was eliminated? No idea. Thanks for taking the time to read this, I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts when this epic Overanalyzing series finally comes to an end!
If eren can speak to subjects of Ymir (eldians) in the paths…during zekes meeting with the glove when they shook hands maybe he brainwashed tybur in that moment to die on that stage. I’m sure he can mentally (influence) through the paths. I mean imagine waking up in the paths and you got some random guy telling you that you are a martyr and gonna die on the stage for the betterment of humanity. Planting that seed in his head because to him it was just a crazy dream. I like to think that anyways
7:50 I always chuckle at such quotes in stories as history contradicts this. It is human nature, and those who do not have it in their nature end up serving those who do.
tbh, i had to watch this episode like 5 times to fully understand the whole magath, tybur stuff, its so full of metaphores and its so so cryptic but once i got it i also felt this episode was very underrated
22:09 in japanese symbology usually this tends to mean a last goodbye image as well, where one will die and one will live on, so they can't see each other as they never will again, but have each others backs. However the one odd thing is that they are in reverse, compared to how they should be. There is a visual think you can notice in anime, especially in openings and endings. Japanese read from right to left as opposed to the western left to right. Thus for them facing left is progress while facing right is usually either opposition of death. There are many example for this. Such as DEMON SLAYER SPOILER AHEAD: In every demon slayer opening there is that one scene where the characters look at the camera and then turn left and the title card shows up...with one exception, the mugen train arc where Rengoku turns right instead of left in the opening, foreshadowing his death.
I just wanna say, maybe I was just incredibly dumb, but it didn't click for me that it was Eren that befriended Falco. For some context, I started really watching AoT dubbed first. I tried watching it subbed first because that's what friends who watched anime and this series specifically recommended, but I couldn't focus on the show while reading the subtitles at the same time. I think I gave up around the time we saw the Scouts return from their mission outside of the Walls and Keith was telling that distraught mother that her son(?) died and returned an arm to her. I had no issue with the Japanese voice acting, but when I'm reading subtitles and trying to watch the show at the same time, there's this disconnect that I can't really describe. But anyway, I watched the entire series dubbed after my older brother recommended that I do so. And I watched the entire series dubbed over the course of a few days up until the first half of Season 3 ended. From then onwards, when a new episode releases, I watch it subbed for the sole purpose of not being spoiled online. I'd watch it, try to understand what's going on enough to understand plot points and such, and not touch that episode until it's dubbed where I've watched every episode countless times at this point. As such, I wasn't used to the Japanese voice actors enough to recognize Eren and because his design as a whole looked very different compared to when I last saw him at the end of Season 3, I didn't recognize him by look either. I remember being on RUclips and saw someone uploaded the scene of where Eren talks to his grandfather titled "Eren meets his grandfather". I remember my head being like "that was Eren? How did I not notice that??"
Lmao, you're not alone! There were A TON of people who didn't realize that it was Eren until it was literally spelled out (I'm guessing a bunch of them also experienced the same dub-to-sub switch you did, as season 4 was huge compared to earlier seasons).
@Koroto It may also be a byproduct of the swap of studios to MAPPA. Likely unintentional, but with that shared experience of going dub to sub that I'm glad isn't something that I'm not alone in, there was again that sense of unfamiliarity that this season would have up to this point.
Omg. 29:06 how could I be that stupid. I’ve never been able to connect Erens deception towards Zeke as the catalyst for the dropped baseball. I could *NEVER* come up with what that was representing 🤦🏻♂️
For the prediction on the attack, I mean come on. They have the ability to shove an entire unit's worth of power in a single person (the titans), they know paradis is planning something, they'd be pretty stupid not to, and they literally put the largest cheese possible in an area and announced it to the world (all military leaders gathering somewhere). When he said that, I thought he was baiting Eren (which did work, it's just paradis was a lot smarter than they thought), and that's why I think the war hammer titan was so fast to respond. I don't think it was baiting Eren's specifically, rather expecting him to drop in unison with the devils or something, but I think he knew it would be paradis that attacked. He was shocked that Eren was ballsy enough to just outright transform from right above him (he probably had no idea Eren had spent years in the area, so he'd know the best spot to strike from).
Willy Tybur is kinda almost the true hero of the world. He accepts accountability of his own ancestors, yet he is still a slave of his own world view and prejudice on Eldians.
Dumb question cuz its been a minute since i watched but how did tybur know eren would kill him during his grand speech? I was their ever communication or was tybur just assuming somehow there was a devil infiltrating marley that would kill him

Is this the first sponsor or am I just completely behind on kroto lore?
After Finishing AOT will you talk about "Before the Fall"?
The prequel but it's just manga
Never >:(
“It’s been 4 years, Reiner”
Fun fact: it has been 4 years (well, just a couple of days more) since Eren said these words in anime.
Even better than that, it's also almost exactly 4 years since I made my first video on AoT. The festival is the ULTIMATE 4-year convergence 🙌
@ Even in 2025 AOT is as relevant as ever 😌😌
@@Koroto more fun facts this episode premiered almost 4 years after the corresponding manga chapter where eren said those words
Gaps in the matrix..
@@Koroto We need “It’s been four years…” merch!
One thing I wanna point out:
Zeke insisted that Reiner goes with Falco, while Colt and Porco were worried of the show starting soon.
Finally, we get to the meeting. The next episode will be hype.
If War Thunder was canon in AoT, people would leak secret marleyan documents regarding the shifters to prove a point in the forums
Same bro, this whole section was the hypest hype i've ever felt watching tv
When my boyfriend watched AOT for the first time, I had already seen it 2-3 times all the way through. We agreed that I was able to clarify certain things but not give any spoilers (a delicate line that I was very careful about).
When we got to this episode, he was so confused during most of the MaGath-Willy convos. Missed the subtext completely (to be fair, I only picked up on it during a second watch). He kept trying to ask for clarifications on what the hell they were talking about, and all I could think to do without spoiling anything was to repeat MaGath’s line, “The house is full of rats! THE HOUSE IS FULL OF RATS, BABE!”
It didn’t help much at the time, but, as is often the case with AOT, all became clear later.
One of the most funny details of the series is the sun. When Connie is riding Falco to his titan mother, they ride north, but the sun is setting on their starboard side, meaning it is the other way around. Flipped world map, flipped path of the sun. :D
no way they had that level of detail when animating and YOU NOTICED IT!
What kind of mad man notices something like that??? You have my full respect lol 🙏🏽🙏🏽
"he wants people to experience war themselves because they don't understand and will buckle"

"The world shall know Pain"

Wait a minute 6:05, brinting down a monster with just a spear, and as we know the accounts now use thunder spears
The name of the Thunder Spears is a very on the nose call back to Erwin's speech in S3E5 about the Scouts being the "tip of the spear" in humanity's defense against the titan threat. Having a shield to defend with is not enough, you must strike with a spear to dispatch the enemy.

The Good Ending: “I’ll just keep moving forward….Poundtown, bro.”
Poundtown
I understood that reference
Armin before transforming into the colossal titan and killing hundreds of civillians: "I AM THE CRIMSON KING, ANOINTED IN BLOOD!"
I can’t wait for you to talk about the Reiner and Eren conversation!
Been waiting foreverrrr for this eps!!!! You’re amazing dude!
man this epsode ending is so good the scene with reiner and gabi merging with the ED
25:30 well they wouldnt draft a guy with one leg id guess, at least not on the early stages, they could use them as titan "bombs" tho.
I would think that they would only use mentally ill eldians to keep the guise of them caring for eldians + they are in abundance after wars

next time will be the most anticipated episode of ths show probably ever, i dont think im more excited for an overanalysis of anything else
Old Yagger's "twist" is one of the best in the series, so deep, and really unexpected.
2 minutes ago is harassment

your dad
your grandma
Thank you so much for producing these. No lie, I feel so excited when I see a new OAAoT thumbnail!
next episode is so hype i cant wait
but i will patiently wait for mr korotos to take his time to finish
I love your work man
You really sold that ad read btw 😄
These videos remind me when I had to wait for the new episode to drop next week!
7:50 I always chuckle at such quotes in stories as history contradicts this. It is human nature, and those who do not have it in their nature end up serving those who do.
Ngl I wait in anticipation for each AOT episodes deep dives from you
Off work for 4 days, dinner in front of me, and Overanalyzing Attack on Titan? Best Friday night I could ask for
10:57
Connor and Chris pointing got powercrept
tbh, i had to watch this episode like 5 times to fully understand the whole magath, tybur stuff, its so full of metaphores and its so so cryptic but once i got it i also felt this episode was very underrated
I literally was launching war thunder as Korotos said this video was sponsored LOL. Nobody can escape the snail.
Such as DEMON SLAYER SPOILER AHEAD:
In every demon slayer opening there is that one scene where the characters look at the camera and then turn left and the title card shows up...with one exception, the mugen train arc where Rengoku turns right instead of left in the opening, foreshadowing his death.
JUST ON TIME FOR MY BIRTHDAY 🎉🎉🎉
🎉🎉HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎊🎊
@ OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH 😭
You cooked with this one my man ❤️
Super excited Falco is hilarious and breaking my heart at the same time. Can't wait for the next episode, one of the greatest of all time
perfect timing!🖤🖤
Amazing video dude

Pieck Finger a.k.a. The Dump Truck Titan. 😊
I been rewatching AOT and this is the episode I’m on today I kept rewatching it because of how much was going on
Falco's Face to Eren : 😊😃
Eren : 😐
Reiner : 😧
1 minute since the upload. Forgive me for being so late.
No. Should've used the attack and/or founding titan 🗿🗿🗿
YESSSS NEW UPLOAD
if you had uploaded 25 minutes earlier i could have eaten a pizza to this video
I always watch your aot overanalyzing videos as soon as i can, theyre trully amazing!! Also, what music do you use at 26:10 ?
Omg. 29:06 how could I be that stupid. I’ve never been able to connect Erens deception towards Zeke as the catalyst for the dropped baseball. I could *NEVER* come up with what that was representing 🤦🏻♂️
Cannot wait for next episode!!!
Waited so long for this!
I thought I had it upside down at one point but bro was actually just upside down 😂 had me confused
Wow that intro is awesome 🔥
Lmao you sitting on the bench with Eren is very funny.
I’ve caught up to the series now, what do I do just wait again???
Willy Tybur is kinda almost the true hero of the world. He accepts accountability of his own ancestors, yet he is still a slave of his own world view and prejudice on Eldians.
“We all know looking better means playing better” 💅🏽 yes✨
I’m at the gym at the moment. Perfect timing for my last 30 mins of cardio
This is legit one of the best episodes in attack on titan
Dumb question cuz its been a minute since i watched but how did tybur know eren would kill him during his grand speech? I was their ever communication or was tybur just assuming somehow there was a devil infiltrating marley that would kill him
He didn't know Eren was there. Willy Tybur just had a feeling *something* was going to happen and it would be blamed on Paradis no matter what.
