I did high fashion editorial print for 17 years as a male model. I stopped because I got tired of it and male models don’t really make that much money, you’re in it because you enjoy it. One of the things that could’ve been mentioned here, and probably the most important attribute of all, is first impressions. Your attitude when you walk through the door is everything. Your self talk is something that you have to gain control of. What do you think on the inside shows on the outside. Be humble, be happy and most of all be respectful because everybody wants to be somebody, and generally people hate the person in the room who needs to be the center of attention. Be the person that everybody wants to look at not the one that everybody is forced to look at. You do that by showing heartfelt interest in other people, asking them how their day is, complementing them instead of waiting for them to complement you. Empathy, compassion and a true desire to interact with your fellow human being is the most beautiful quality there is. It can’t be faked, but you should always fake it till you make it, at least until it becomes a natural part of your own being.

I’ve worked part time as a petite model for many years through an agency, and I’m 5’4”. As said below, there are many types of modeling and different clients look for different things. High fashion and runway modeling generally has height requirements. But there’s also printwork, commercials/ acting, promotional modeling, beauty campaigns, etc. to name a few. I share this to say if it’s your dream, you’ll find a way and don’t give up on it. At the least it can be a passion project or hobby if it brings you joy.

Preußen “has nothing to do with actual beauty” is a false statement. There’s two way ou can approach beauty, physicallly or from within. Both exist and both matter to us as humans. If you think a billion dollar industry is hiring people based on nothing then you’re terribly mistaken or just very young. There’s tons of videos that provide research and data on what makes a face attractive. It’s very simple. Even if you watch one runway show you’ll be able to notice a lot of similar features constantly popping up. Cheek bones, jawline, symmetry. And obviously height and frame.
I don’t think I need to say this, but it’s actually really bad for the health of your teeth. First, all that enamel is being lost, which would make the teeth REALLY sensitive. Also, by suddenly introducing a gap, it can really mess up their bite, and could cause them to grind their teeth in their sleep, and it just feels uncomfortable overall. A healthier way would be to get braces and let your orthodontist know that this is the look that you’re going for. You might have to lose a couple teeth in the back, but there won’t be any horrible side effects. I hope the lady who had this done is okay though.

I disagree... and as for the eyes, it can be turned on and off, Tyra Banks wasnt BSing about SMEYES (its the act of expressing intensity through your eyes, often done by lifting the LOWER lash line just a fraction, and not closing your upper eyelids at all, so you cant tell the persons eyes have changed shape... you just see this intensity (thats really a mix of concentration (to seperate the eye muscles so youre only lifting the bottom lid, and concentrating on doing it just the SLIGHTEST amount.... mixed with the exhaustion your eye muscles are going through, although it gets easier to do this the more you practice, at first you can only go short intervals before the muscles shake)

If I was a model agency I wouldn't look out for what everybody else is after, I would seek originality and diversity, encouraging models to keep away from those crazy surgeries, to be themselves and confident however they are. There is hardly such thing as best eye type, it is just a confident gaze.
Novelty does not equal appeal/attraction. Diversity only benefits if it still sells/is attractive. At the end of the day people want less stress and guaranteed money. Especially if the agency wasn’t created with those ideals in mind.

By mean of example, gapped teeth is mocked in some communities. At the end of the day, anything unusual is more likely to turn heads. The world is diverse rather than uniform, so agencies with models that follow a multi-trait pattern are more likely to be relatable. People are instinctively inclined to purchasing items they view on bodies that resemble theirs, so an agency that only signs models with uniform features only reduce their market size.

Ive got high cheek bones, thick eye brows, 190 cm tall and the model agency i went told me i was to skinny! And i had to work on my body structure. So i became a real estate agent.

The thing is , is most of these features are subjective to agency’s . It varies from model to model .What one needs to focus on is confidence, knowing their platform , and being the best you can be . Lots of this can be enhanced through makeup and editing . The truth is , is that not everyone will have these features however they could be blessed with other features not mentioned

i have really high cheek bones and i used to have a large gap but i closed it with Invisalign. people used to make fun of me saying, “an airplane could land in between them”. and that i “looked like michael strahan” my dentist even said i should have kept my gap. i wish i kept it because it made me look unique.

Got everything except the great smile :( Was almost voted best smile in high school then I had a dentist appointment before finishing school and the dentist removed my left canine tooth and his reasoning was that it was a baby tooth, which is the dumbest reason ever but I told him I didn't want him to remove it but he did it anyways. He lied and said he was going to give me a cleaning and said he accidentally chipped the tooth and he chipped so much of it that he said he would just take it out. That was nearly 5 years ago and to this day I have a gap there because what he didn't tell me was that the upper canine tooth above it was crooked and wouldn't grow in properly without surgery. I have never been able to afford the surgery because to get the surgery I'd need braces and my health insurance didn't and still doesn't cover braces. Since then I pretty much gave up my goals of becoming a model. My art teacher in high school told me my face was nearly perfectly symmetrical, everything but my jawline and that she'd never seen anyone with a more symmetrical face than me and then she referenced Twiggy. I'm 24 now (as of a few days ago). I live about 20 minutes from Boston MA. But because of my smile I don't have the confidence to go and even audition anywhere. I have grey eyes as well which is one of the rarest eye colors in the world. They appear blue in certain lighting but my optometrist says they're grey. Sorry for this rant, but thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
It's associated with youth, cuteness and innocence in children. It can make a model look more youthful and doll-like especially for female models. Not just gaps, but also two front slightly larger teeth, almost bunny-like (ie Kristen Stewart) are desirable features and associated with youth and cuteness.

I don’t plan on being a model, but this just boosted my confidence! I always thought some of these features made me look ugly....But now that I know that modeling agencies actually like stuff like that, and that makes me so happy! I may not have the perfect face of a model, like professional models, but at least I know I may have made it if I wanted to be a model.

I have braces on to get rid of my slight gap teeth and i felt my teeth split open when i saw the clip 💀 but i didn't mind the video whatsoever.

and as for the eyes, it can be turned on and off, Tyra Banks wasnt BSing about SMEYES (its the act of expressing intensity through your eyes, often done by lifting the LOWER lash line just a fraction, and not closing your upper eyelids at all, so you cant tell the persons eyes have changed shape... you just see this intensity (thats really a mix of concentration (to seperate the eye muscles so youre only lifting the bottom lid, and concentrating on doing it just the SLIGHTEST amount.... mixed with the exhaustion your eye muscles are going through, although it gets easier to do this the more you practice, at first you can only go short intervals before the muscles shake)

If I was a model agency I wouldn't look out for what everybody else is after, I would seek originality and diversity, encouraging models to keep away from those crazy surgeries, to be themselves and confident however they are. There is hardly such thing as best eye type, it is just a confident gaze.
Very true but it takes a lot of work and effort as an agency to sell those who do not fit the established mold, hard but not impossible!
Novelty does not equal appeal/attraction. Diversity only benefits if it still sells/is attractive. At the end of the day people want less stress and guaranteed money. Especially if the agency wasn’t created with those ideals in mind.

Routine isn't correlated to appeal either, and there is no evidence that anybody exhibiting the features listed would absolutely be attractive or sell, beauty is only objective in the end. By mean of example, gapped teeth is mocked in some communities. At the end of the day, anything unusual is more likely to turn heads.
The world is diverse rather than uniform, so agencies with models that follow a multi-trait pattern are more likely to be relatable. People are instinctively inclined to purchasing items they view on bodies that resemble theirs, so an agency that only signs models with uniform features only reduce their market size.

The thing is , is most of these features are subjective to agency’s . It varies from model to model .What one needs to focus on is confidence, knowing their platform , and being the best you can be . Lots of this can be enhanced through makeup and editing . The truth is , is that not everyone will have these features however they could be blessed with other features not mentioned

High cheekbones and a nice jawline is the staple for models. Wide set eyes or eyes with positive canthal tilt or both is a plus.

I’m working on getting my gap closed after being made fun of it for years with braces..
i have really high cheek bones and i used to have a large gap but i closed it with Invisalign. people used to make fun of me saying, “an airplane could land in between them”. and that i “looked like michael strahan” my dentist even said i should have kept my gap. i wish i kept it because it made me look unique.

Was almost voted best smile in high school then I had a dentist appointment before finishing school and the dentist removed my left canine tooth and his reasoning was that it was a baby tooth, which is the dumbest reason ever but I told him I didn't want him to remove it but he did it anyways. He lied and said he was going to give me a cleaning and said he accidentally chipped the tooth and he chipped so much of it that he said he would just take it out. That was nearly 5 years ago and to this day I have a gap there because what he didn't tell me was that the upper canine tooth above it was crooked and wouldn't grow in properly without surgery. I have never been able to afford the surgery because to get the surgery I'd need braces and my health insurance didn't and still doesn't cover braces. Since then I pretty much gave up my goals of becoming a model.
My art teacher in high school told me my face was nearly perfectly symmetrical, everything but my jawline and that she'd never seen anyone with a more symmetrical face than me and then she referenced Twiggy. I'm 24 now (as of a few days ago). I live about 20 minutes from Boston MA. But because of my smile I don't have the confidence to go and even audition anywhere.
I have grey eyes as well which is one of the rarest eye colors in the world. They appear blue in certain lighting but my optometrist says they're grey.

It's associated with youth, cuteness and innocence in children. It can make a model look more youthful and doll-like especially for female models. Not just gaps, but also two front slightly larger teeth, almost bunny-like (ie Kristen Stewart) are desirable features and associated with youth and cuteness.

I don’t plan on being a model, but this just boosted my confidence! I always thought some of these features made me look ugly....But now that I know that modeling agencies actually like stuff like that, and that makes me so happy! I may not have the perfect face of a model, like professional models, but at least I know I may have made it if I wanted to be a model.

These are mostly only true with high fashion modeling. Commercial modeling just requires you to look like a healthy , wholesome person.
