So many shallow and petty comments! I don't care how this doctor sounds or looks ! If he's capable, skilled and experienced that's all that matters! If you can't take some months pain and discomfort of recovery, in exchange for years of pain free knee function...just don't do it .
    Thanks Doc !!!

I am 18 months of having both knees replaced 6 weeks apart. Best decision i ever made. I had arthritis & was bone on bone on both knees. Both times i left the hospital that same day. 3-4 hours after recovery they have you walking. You are like What? The 1st 2 weeks are the hardest, pain wise. Just follow your Drs.advice, and go to therapy also. That 1st day, i no longer felt the pain the knee had been giving me.

I wish he wasn't reading off a prompter or screen. It seems more genuine when they're speaking without it.

when does this start? because I'm like not 40 yet and I've had a knee out for 2 yrs. I've always been highly active (tennis, hiking) and my doc only gives me exercise. Its not helping. ibprofin doesn't help either. Am i to live with chronic pain until this starts showing in xray??!

It cracks me up how they perfect this unique new language to soften the blow of getting knee replacement surgery. First of all, you don't get a day or two - to rest and recover from the surgery & anesthesia. They practically haul your buttes straight to Physical therapy after a couple hours sleep.
I think PT is in the morning and night .... maybe even afternoon. At least it seemed like it. They tend to give you Tramadol (a placebo) for pain. Good luck. You can forget about an opiate ... that's only for doctors, nurses and rich people. Then around 2-3 days in, you get taken to a room to sit in a chair that looks like a toilet seat and the nurse washes you. Everywhere! So make sure you lose weight before surgery. If you think it would help, watch a knee replacement surgery on You Tube. Its riveting.

My mom needs to get knee replacement possibly but her ligaments are messed up I'm telling her the best would be to fix the ligaments first

my friend in IL gets opiates. but she is basically having 2 knees out plus back surgery several times. it sucks. i don't know why vicodin was taken away. it was never that strong to begin with. stupid kids and teenagers ruined it for everyone.

Susie Arviso based on personal experience and currently two months post opt from TKR surgery. My experience was nothing like what you described. Nothing similar to my husband's experience with TKR ten years before mine. We had great surgeons, adequate pain meds and while our PT required hard work and dedication, it wasn't torcher by any means. No surgery that requires PT as part of the recovery process doesn't come without some physical discomfort. In order to reach the end goal of a better quality of life.

My Dr who is young does not believe in PT until four months in. He leieves that you need to walk and do exercises without weights. He says that over aggressive PT practitioners cause more problems . He wants me to heal first while doing normal things such as walking. My knee looks great after three weeks and I am walking normally

I think he's adorable with a lovely presentation ability. I would feel very secure with him as my surgeon, and couldn't care less what his hair looks like. At least he has hair.
