Tidy job Nick,Adam ,Doing a great job take care of your selves🪛🪛🪛😃👍👍👍
Capping was mainly used to protect cables from plasterers trowels when walls used to be coated in sand and cement. Plasterers trowels are rather sharp!!
I was lead to belive that plaster degraded the pvc over time and the capping is to create a barrier. Never actually had this confirmed, nor seen any cable that's been damaged by plaster.
@@callumhodgkinson2286 Yes you are partially correct it is because of old style VIR cable and the fact that plaster use to contain lime and this could over time penetrate the rubber protection (not pvc) of the VIR and in turn could react with the copper conductors. this is why VIR's were usually protected in either a string like coating or metal conduit or both. There is no real need to use oval tube nowadays but I would highly recommend it because it looks a better job makes it easier if installed correctly (top to bottom slightly through ceiling and one solid piece) to rewire in future
Pleasure to sponsor your content! Great to hear Tradify is improving your business admin and keeping you organised.
I love that you called it a "Safety Squint" haha! We all do it thinking it negates the need for safety glasses ! 😂
The wife and I tound the "your mums got a plug" rather funny. Sat giggling like school kids!
Great video as per. Always a good watch. Funny and educational!
What a chuckle-fest with rodding and holes and Ads mum's plug, oh dear oh dear.... Great video lads!
Love these boys 🙂🇮🇪🍀
We never use capping here, never actually seen it for sale. We use 20/25 mm pipe, more for the ability to retire and not chase a wall again than protection, I did see see some of the stupid comments though. Good video nick
thanks mate
where u frm M8t same with us im in Northern Ireland never used capping in my life been sparking for near 20 years always chase 20/25mm conduit into the walls lol
Your banter is becoming legendary 😆😆😆
Another great video. Love it. I've been studying at the youtube university of DIY the last few years and videos where you simply watch the person do the work are the best for learning. I hate when people feel the need to explain everything in detail and i'm there "just f'ing show us". Anyway brilliant video the constant banter just makes it that bit more enjoyable to watch. If i could give this 2 thumbs up i would. Keep it up lads.
Not used capping since i was an apprentice in 08-10. Also never do rings. Radials all the way 🤌
Yet again absolutely brilliant lads, informative and educational without any ego or smugness, there’s no shame in domestic work! Best of luck with your AM2 Andy I’m about a year off going in for mine 😬
Adam * :)
Great video as always lads , Nick the new bag looks very well 😊
Great Content guys Enjoyed watching and really like the hole cutter and plug good bit of kit ⚡️👊
Another great video guys! That Armeg tool is ace
In north america, we have self-drilling back boxes for light fixtures. So cool but you can only get that feature on round boxes
Beards coming along quality!
I like the hole cutter and plug, but damn that’s expensive 😮
Hi, what downlights would you recommend for a vaulted kitchen ceiling thinking about clearances for heat dissipation and beam angle adjustment. I have did the bs7671 training about 10 years ago, but I changed and got a degree in electronics instead so I know the theory but not the products
nice WRX ;)
Can you explain the need to rewire surely the existing cable hasn't deteriorated that much?
Hi Nick. What model is that spit gun
Is the d.b not right next to the gas?
Have you not thought about drilling through the side of the backbox into the thin walls rather than adheasive ?
Nick nailing back boxes come on, Hilti had this available in the 70s but it was never used.
Time and a place for a tool like that. My opinion only.
Nick if you're drilling them ceilings have you made sure they dont contain asbestos in the artex?
I'm sure he sent a sample off four weeks prior.
100% battery powered concrete nailers exist for a while bud. like dewalt's. A banger. Just sucks on extremely aged concrete, always fails, but gas ones are 50/50.
WHAT?????? THAT TOOL EXISTS???!?! Oh man I am BUYING that next time I need that. I didn't know that exists.
That holesaw has existed for over 25 years. Bought one back then and hardly ever used it till recently at my daughters house. (Don’t do domestic as a rule) just the right size to get your arm in
@@johnwarwick4105 i had no idea these exist omfg.
Wheres that little red bar from? Shit hot piece of kit
Cement can degrade the external pvc overtime, plus having conduit in the wall makes it easier for the next guy, easier if you happen to need to replace a cable & provides mechanical damage against diy Dave. Not a reg but good practice. Not achievable on every job though as it increases cost.
He already stated in numerous previous videos that the stuff they use to plaster with now doesn't degrade insulation
I dont see capping as a big deal tbh. Metal capping would be slightly useful I guess if it were bonded to the cable CPC, but who is doing that? I'd much rather rely on a working RCD than hoping the capping somehow saves me.
Do you cover Hertfordshire?
yes mate
Pay for phew with Ad's no. 1 bathroom-fan. Puns intended
Does Tradify root out time wasters, or isn't it that clever yet? Could be a new app feature!
Rewiring a 1990 house? 😮
Agreed whats the point.
21:28 Dead hedgehog 🦔?
👍👍👍
*All the capping fans absolutely losing their shit right now*
Beard
I mean im not a genius but maybe juuuust maybe the cables colour fades overtime 😂
Yeah because of all the sunlight under that flooding.
The old stuff was that colour when it went in, no idea why they make it darker these days.
I understand you can use Radials but surely its about what load is being used on the circuit.
The idea of a Ring is that its applying diversity as we wont fully know what will always be used on the circuit.
9:07 Unnecessary toilet roll stock piling
I need a job please give me sir
Adam you've got some mud on your cheeks
Also the capping thing - people love coming up with solutions to non problems.
Like 'make sure the earth is longer than the other wires so that when someone pulls it it still stays connected' - what a load of nonsense, who's pulling on a cable cleated and buried in a wall?
It's like people invent imaginary scenarios and come up with imaginary solutions to them and then try to pass said solution off as a superior way of working.
'Ah, cables could potentially be nicked by stuff, so let's say capping is mandatory for cables buried and bonded into walls even though screws go straight through it.'
Waste of time, waste of money.
Mmmm ok. You can't see the benefit to protecting a cable when a plasterer is floating a wall? Yes there are times when it's not necessary... But sometimes it is the sensible option.
