  • We started out at Sawmill Trailhead on Fork Ridge Road in Big South Fork on a cooler than usual late summer day. The route led us right past Needle Arch as it descended down toward the confluence of 3 streams near Jake’s Place. This confluence is the beginning of Station Camp Creek, one of the main streams in Big South Fork.
Shortly after leaving the trailhead a footbridge crosses a small stream. This stream is the water source for Slave Falls. It was barely a trickle, so we bypassed the side trail out to the falls on this day. We would have liked to have seen a waterfall but unfortunately it would have only been a tall drip.
The hike was totally outstanding. We had late summer/fall wildflowers to enjoy as we hiked to Jake’s Place and on towards Charit Creek Lodge. The lodge was the first place on Station Camp Creek to be inhabited by humans in the valley. It is a little piece of heaven for sure.
Our hike ended after we hiked the steep mountain, with its many switchbacks, up to the parking area on Fork Ridge Road.
Just a little over 7 miles of amazing beauty in one of the most rugged pieces of terrain one can imagine.
That’s the essence of Big South Fork in a nutshell.

Another great video Randy boy I shore do like it down at the lodge. Gonna try to get back down there maybe this winter. Those old home sites are really cool.I only wish more of them were in as good of shape as the ones at the lodge. Stay healthy and keep making the videos and I'll keep watching them. Later Tater.

Nope, I hate swinging bridges. There is so much history there. More than we will ever know. I remember when you took Steve there.
