I love how they are gifting this song one to the other. Bernie gifted Elton with words - and Elton gifted him back with music. This is why they look at each other, this is why Bernie looks so proud. It goes beyond love - it is about creating something amazing together. "I know it's not much but it's the best I can do...My gift is my song and, this one is for you".

At 0:35 he says "there's egg on this". Bernie Taupin said in an interview in 1990 that remembered that he "wrote it when I was having breakfast. I remember because the original lyric of it still has egg stain on it. It has one of those set-the-coffee-down stains." So that's that little easter "egg" . for ya. Just shows you how detail-oriented the producers were with this film.
@Broderick Simpson Its honestly not as hard as you think. Taron is playing an icon, and he had the role totally down. Lots of rehearsal as well, he was extremely prepared. Singing in front of a camera isn't that hard, especially when you're a good singer with practice for the scene, and when your head is totally in the character and the moment.

3:18 It's probably not true, but when I watched this in theaters, I always thought that the line "And you can tell everybody...this is YOUR song" was actually Bernie writing it to Elton since Bernie was writing the music but Elton John was singing it and making it famous. That look that Elton gives Bernie is almost like being surprised that someone so close to him is giving him permission to sing something so romantic and deep, as well as one of the lyrics also says, "BOY, if I did" can be taken as a literal boy or just the expression of "boy, if I did." The line "my gift is my song and, this one's for you" can be read as a someone singing this to their lover, but I like to think that this was the song where Bernie decided to dedicate it to Elton because of how much he cares about him, since they're both smiling at the lyrics. I'm probably overanalyzing this, but I find it so sweet that Bernie is letting Elton be true to himself because he knows that when he is, other people love him for it as well as how he sings his music. Why can’t songwriting today be like this song? The lyrics of this song are perfect. Imagine being in that house when they collaborate on a timeless song.
This whole movie could be interpreted as a Valentine from Elton to Bernie, who never let him down and has always stood by him. That idea really comes together in this scene, which wouldn’t have worked nearly as well without the chemistry between these actors. There’s something about Jamie Bell in particular that just blows me away. He can seem oceans deep without even speaking a line of dialogue.
If I'm not mistaken I believe Taron used this song to audition to get into drama school... now he's in a major motion movie singing it, how amazing is it that this song has played such a large role in his acting career!
One of my favorite scenes. People should go look up Elton doing this same sort of thing for Tiny Dancer back in the early 70's. This is really how he worked and came up with songs. He's amazing.
I loved it! Elton had a difficult life, with problems, bad choises and fake relationships, but at the end, wherever Bernie will go, whatever he will do, this is his song. For always.

the piano makes me cry... the melody makes me cry... the lyrics makes me cry... why did you hit my heart so much Elton... why.... I love this song so much.
What a life they've had... so happy to see they've never fallen out and are as closer in 20021 as they've ever been. What a beautiful frriendship they have, well more than friendship, they are absolute brothers.
I was watching this with my brother. And when they all stopped to listen to Eaton playing, is when I busted into tears. His voice got me. Fantastic Film.
It never occurred to me until I rewatched this, but the fact that Elton is performing Bernies song, the title "Your Song," refers to Bernie. Amazing I never internalized that before.
I remember watching this scene in the theatre. I wasn’t even the biggest fan of Your Song at that time (which has since changed) and it brought me to tears. The combo of Taron playing and singing, Jamie’s reaction to it, and his grandmother watching with delight. It’s just really well done
Bernie tells him he “doesn’t love him in that way” and then writes these lyrics for him... I SHIP 🥰 Can we also appreciate that Elton was literally singing this (live!!!) to Bernie OMG askdhddj
He wasn't in real life. They worked separated.Always. This is a movie and they did it this way to make it more in emotional. But irl this song was written the exact same way as any other song did. Bernie wrote the lyrics in just 15 mins and sent them to elton, and elton wrote the music.
Braveet Sweengs Actually, Elton already said this scene represents what exactly happened in real life. Both, he and Bernie was at Elton’s parents apartment
Braveet Sweengs Elton and Bernie both of them said this scene (in movie) this exactly happend in real life. Elton basically give lyrics of this song to Bernie because everything what is in this song is what Elton feels to Bernie
I honestly can't think of another performance where the actor made me forget they were acting like the famous person, this movie was so well done I felt like I went back in time and watched this happen for real!
Not true. In an interview years later, Elton said he once asked Bernie who he wrote the lyrics for, and Bernie never gave him a straight answer. Elton said he just assumed Bernie wrote the lyrics for a girlfriend somewhere in Bernie's past.
@@HouseofBrady From LouderSound.com. Bernie didn't write it for Elton. "If the lyrics sound naive, it's because they were: Taupin was only 17 when he wrote them, and had never experienced romantic love - not really. So he put down his idea of what it might be like on to paper. "It's got to be one of the most naïve and childish lyrics in the entire repertoire of music," he told Music Connection in 1989. "But I think the reason it still stands up is because it was real at the time. That was exactly what I was feeling. I was 17 years old and it was coming from someone whose outlook on love or experience with love was totally new and naïve." The subject who inspired the song was never revealed - even Elton himself claims not to know."
Bryce Dallas Howard, one of the most underrated actors for a few years now. If she could get any part because of his father, still doesnt change the talent that she has. Playing british Elton’s mom, her performance is one of things that i remember of the movie
okay I gotta share my thoughts about this real quick: 3:02 Imagine, bernie just casually wrote one of the most romantic songs of all time at the breakfast table, Elton sat down, created a melody and started playing. And while he’s playing, he reads these lyrics for the first time. Then he reads: “yours are the sweetest eyes, I’ve ever seen” and nearly forgets to sing it out loud, because he’s too shocked about what his friend wrote. And I won’t talk about what Bernie must be thinking at this point. Unbelievable... my absolute favourite scene of the movie!
I gotta be honest...this movie did its job because it REALLY made me appreciate Elton John and his music and legacy. I’m 34...and of course I’ve known about Elton John my whole life. I grew up listening to classic rock, and The Beatles. I’ve heard his songs. I can vividly remember my mom playing Crocodile Rock in the car anytime we went to my grandmas. I remember the “Lion King” days...him playing Candle in the Wind for Princess Diana’s funeral...catching his tunes on the radio somewhere...and Tiny Dancer in Almost Famous... But I’ve never actually REALLY taken the time to listen to him as a “fan”...to sit in my room and listen through an album. And this movie did it for me. I’m actually quite shocked that I haven’t been a huge fan this whole time. His music is legendary. His voice, his melodies. The feeling you get when he hits that perfect note...I had a similar experience with Ray Charles in Ray and now Elton John. Some people criticize these “music biopics” as “cliche’” but I think if done right...they can reintroduce a music icon to a whole new generation of fans.
I’m 35 (I was 34 six months ago when you wrote this post lol), and I can relate to so many of those experiences - the Lion King, Candle In the Wind, Tiny Dancer from Almost Famous, plus Moulin Rouge introduced me to this song. I’ve always known Elton John’s music, but watching this film gave me such a greater appreciation for it! His music will live on for generations and I’m so thankful for all the songs that Elton and Bernie gifted us with.
You'd thing elton was singing this song for Bernie but actually elton is the one who's touched by his words I really like that. The way he looks at him as if to say "do you really think that" and its confirmed by his smile and pride Their friendship really fills my heart.
There's so much that's great about this scene, but I think my favorite part is how calmly and nonchalantly he asks "How's that?" at the end... as if he and Bernie didn't just write one of the greatest songs of an era.
What makes this scene such an amazing moment for me is everyone else's reaction to Elton. Elton just plays, his talent is unquestionable and from the first note you can tell this is one of the best romance songs of all time, but what really makes the scene is the manager's look of "son of a bitch I knew I saw something in him" and his best friend's deep sigh of relief and this look of "Thank God, finally", knowing that if they didn't hit it big soon they'd likely go their separate ways and the world would've never known it had lost one of the best musical talents of all time. This film was incredible from start to finish.
You know what’s odd? I like this song a lot. Lyrics and music.. but I think my favorite part of this part of the movie is when he’s feeling out the piano part and sings that “feeling in G”
None of us had the privilege to have been in that rooms when that first happened for the very first time, but watching it in the movie brought us all there. Watching his grandmother sit down in awe, brings tears to my eyes and confirms for us all that his stardom his assured. Wonderful movie with some really great scenes; this one probably the best amongst them all.
Jamie Bell's face says everything. As an actor he just gets better and better. I've no doubt he'll get an Oscar one day. Easily the best actor of his generation.
I love how even his mom who doesn't seem impressed with anything he does stops what she is doing to listen. Such a great movie moment.
Agreed. Lots of Hollywood talent went in to making this movie.
I think that’s his grandmother who supported him the most.
@@mattspencer6154 Yes his grandmother is in the foreground, but his mother is in the background and is watching him like the others.

Oh I know it's not much but it's the best I can do
My gift is my song
And this one's for you
And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world
I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss
Well a few of the verses well they've got me quite cross
But the sun's been quite kind
While I wrote this song
It's for people like you that
Keep it turned on
So excuse me forgetting
But these things I do
You see I've forgotten
If they're green or they're blue
Anyway, the thing is, what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen
And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but
Now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind
That I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world
I loved this movie so much and this scene made me cry.
the piano makes me cry... the melody makes me cry... the lyrics makes me cry... why did you hit my heart so much Elton... why.... I love this song so much.
I love their “oh shit” looks in the studio like they know they’ve got their hands on an absolute banger
What a life they've had... so happy to see they've never fallen out and are as closer in 20021 as they've ever been. What a beautiful frriendship they have, well more than friendship, they are absolute brothers.
I remember listening to this song on radio for the first time many years ago. It brings tears to my eye. Such a beautiful song
The way they look at eachother in this scene. Absolute gold. They knew they had something beautiful right then ❤
I'm not a big Elton John fan , but I will say this film was really well done and I enjoyed it
How can you not love Elton John
I remember watching this scene in the theatre. I wasn’t even the biggest fan of Your Song at that time (which has since changed) and it brought me to tears. The combo of Taron playing and singing, Jamie’s reaction to it, and his grandmother watching with delight. It’s just really well done
I come to this video whenever I'm feeling down or thinking about suicide. Just gives me that feeling of being loved.
Bernie tells him he “doesn’t love him in that way” and then writes these lyrics for him... I SHIP 🥰
Can we also appreciate that Elton was literally singing this (live!!!) to Bernie OMG askdhddj
He wrote the lyrics FOR him, not TO him
He wasn't in real life. They worked separated.Always. This is a movie and they did it this way to make it more in emotional. But irl this song was written the exact same way as any other song did. Bernie wrote the lyrics in just 15 mins and sent them to elton, and elton wrote the music.
Braveet Sweengs
Actually, Elton already said this scene represents what exactly happened in real life. Both, he and Bernie was at Elton’s parents apartment
Matheus Arruda Elton once said that he and bernie never worked at the same room. Never ever. So I don't know what's true and what's not
Braveet Sweengs Elton and Bernie both of them said this scene (in movie) this exactly happend in real life. Elton basically give lyrics of this song to Bernie because everything what is in this song is what Elton feels to Bernie
This is one of the best tearjerkers because it's for a friend straight through the heart. Nothing but love to Sir Elton John and his works ❤️
I honestly can't think of another performance where the actor made me forget they were acting like the famous person, this movie was so well done I felt like I went back in time and watched this happen for real!
so Bernie wrote that for Elton, and then Elton dedicated it to Bernie years later... or so i understand
Not true. In an interview years later, Elton said he once asked Bernie who he wrote the lyrics for, and Bernie never gave him a straight answer. Elton said he just assumed Bernie wrote the lyrics for a girlfriend somewhere in Bernie's past.
@@scotthunt2479 i talked to Elton back stage in Toronto about this specific thing. thanks
@@HouseofBrady what did he say?
@@edgarromero1227 exactly what i said
@@HouseofBrady From LouderSound.com.
Playing british Elton’s mom, her performance is one of things that i remember of the movie
okay I gotta share my thoughts about this real quick: 3:02
Imagine, bernie just casually wrote one of the most romantic songs of all time at the breakfast table, Elton sat down, created a melody and started playing.
Watched over and over just moves me to tears.
Soul shivering. An absolute masterpiece of movie cinema.
Absolutely, DID THAT!🤗🥰👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
You'd thing elton was singing this song for Bernie but actually elton is the one who's touched by his words I really like that. The way he looks at him as if to say "do you really think that" and its confirmed by his smile and pride
Their friendship really fills my heart.
Thank you so much for the scene. Cant wait to order the dvd when its released.
Elton and Bernie's collaboration throughout life may be one of the best in modern music history.
This is the most beautiful acting I've ever seen.so amazing
This scene gives me chills every time I watch it, and I absolutely love that.
Best scene of the movie.
Just like that kids. That is how legends are born
What a voice on the man. Would probably bring Elton to tears on set
The mom - ‘I can’t cook and clean and wash’ - while the granny washes the dishes 😂
There's so much that's great about this scene, but I think my favorite part is how calmly and nonchalantly he asks "How's that?" at the end... as if he and Bernie didn't just write one of the greatest songs of an era.
This is one scene that was truly nailed. And that song -- OMG! -- it made every woman of any age melt. It remains timeless.
Pure genius to create the melody and add to the words. Never be one like Elton again.
You know what’s odd? I like this song a lot. Lyrics and music.. but I think my favorite part of this part of the movie is when he’s feeling out the piano part and sings that “feeling in G”
This scene is a masterpiece. A celebration of elton and burneys relationship
One of my favorite songs ever. This scene is perfect for it.
I think Teron Eggerton just beat out Ewan McGreggor for my favorite cover of "Your Song."
NEVER!!! 😅😂
I have high ground
Lady gaga
Oh I don’t think so
This is definitely my second favorite version but ewan’s is just a masterpiece
“You see i forgotten, if there green, or there blue” when he sang that line it sounded so smooth
My favorite scene from the movie. Looks as if everyone realized what a gift he has. Best song ever!
SO Beautiful one of best songs ever created
Best scene in the entire movie
Both this movie and Queen's biopic Bohemian Rhapsody give me goosebumps all over.. multiple times throughout.
I love this scene it’s beautiful,,
None of us had the privilege to have been in that rooms when that first happened for the very first time, but watching it in the movie brought us all there.
This was the first movie to ever make me cry and that takes a lot
