Reminds me of staying up late in the school summer holidays 91/92. My sister being the oldest and controlling the video player😂 Watching Dirty Dancing, Grease and ghost over and over again! I’d finally get to choose a video and this was always my first choice! I knew it word for word but loved it all the same. Fantastic memories from a time that no longer exists 🤝
I remember coming home drunk one night and believe it or not this was on Sky Movies, I laughed my ass off, waited for it to come on again to tape it. Love Lenny Henry. Chef! Is genius
I remember one year at christmas me my brother and my dad got videos of things we wanted. I was 9 my brother was 16 and my dad was my dad, he was old enough to watch anything. I got Robocop, rated 18, my brother got this rater 15, and my dad got some submarine film rated U.
His impressions during the intro are on point lol, Lenny really knocked out of the park with this one, it's a pity He's fallen from grace so to speak, and nobody is interested in his style of comedy nowadays. I still say this is the UK's version of RAW and defo belongs up there.
For a young kid in the late 80s this was mind blowing stuff, still got some good laughs. Lenny was the main guy who started a lifelong love of standup for me.
Watched this over and over again as a kid. Absolute legend and still funny as f*ck. I was searching for the cat flaps bit (47.20 btw) and found this full upload. Thank you!
Any of you lovely people remember the club out east london/Romford that used to put on shows, Lenny played there in the 1980s but can’t remember the name
NOTE: I saw his show on television sometime in the late 1990s, early 2000s. The seduction act was the same at the end, 'volunteer' girl also said she was Claire 😀 She was about as real a 'volunteer' as any volunteer in a magician's show. So don't worry, it was all staged with a decent actress, like all magicians do. But he talked more about his youth and upbringing in the UK, showing his class pictures in middle school/high school(?) where of course he was the only black dude in the team. Then he talked about he realized he had to grow up and become a man after his mother died. Just looked it up, she died in 1998, so it was definitely some time later but the seduction act was exactly the same. Maybe the volunteer/actress was the original Claire's daughter? LOL no but same type. And that show definitely didn't have the crazy 'Steve Martin' at the beginning. Seriously, for a few moments i thought it was Steven Martin.
Literally have my teen crush on Lenny to thank for my marriage. That, and a random racist at the ITV News studios. No, really!! So I was a single mum, DEFINITELY never, EVER going to date again. I was only 33 but you know, that was it. Came home one night and my Mum randomly said, “See your mate got a Knighthood (she’s a scouser, if that helps explain the odd introduction..!?! 😂) - some racist only mixed him up with that fella you hate (Sorry, Ainsley Harriot. I hate you with a passion.) and they played a reel of him “accidentally”. You’d have loved it.” Seriously. How do you mix them up?! Oh yeah, sure. I get it. Well, whoever that moron was that mixed those videos up, you were a part of a chain of fate that brought the love of my life to me. Cheers, buddy! 😊 So, me and Mum, we talk about the scum that makes that kind of “error”, then I go up to my room and think, “Yeeaaahh, wow I LOVED Lenny was I was younger. Particularly in the BBC comedy, ‘Chef!’ So, thanks to that idiot making a mistake and my Mum finding it funny that someone I more or less idolised - Still do, Len! 🥰- was confused with someone I despise - Still do, Ainsley 🤣 - I remembered that show and thought, “Yeah. I’m gonna order all the dvds and watch them back to back and love it!” So. I did. And I did. Friend says one night, you should go on a dating site. Specifically, Plenty Of Fish. Ha, NOOOOO. Thanks, NO. Wine flows, friend begs me to go on and set up a profile. Eventually convinced me by saying it would be funny, type exactly - EXACTLY - what you are looking for into this search wotsit, it’ll be great! Go on… More wine… I relent. Just finished Series 2 or 3 of ‘Chef!’. I type in a VERY specific description. Must be within 5 miles, Black, 33, built like a barn door and a Head Chef. There was only one. We have been married for 5 years and have a gorgeous daughter, that would not exist if it weren’t for Lenny, Ainsley, a s*** dating site and a racist moron. Good story, right?! 😊 🥰
You can't be serious, this is 30+ years old but there are so many funny bits and Lenny was full of energy the whole way through. He was obviously influenced by American standup but mixed with his own west country style. This still feels like a pretty fresh set even today.
At 1hr26min it’s very close to sexual assault. Do you have any Jamaican in you, do you want some? This is disgusting and embarrassing for the girl. This is not humour or entertainment. I never rated Lenny Henry and this proves I was right.
The good old days of stand up comedy, Sir Lenny Henry.......

I had this show on CD and listened to it so often I can still recite much of it. Great stuff!
He’s absolutely genius!!! So funny, adore him
Rented this, ooh, an embarrassing number of times in the early 90s. It fucking holds up so well.
For a young kid in the late 80s this was mind blowing stuff, still got some good laughs. Lenny was the main guy who started a lifelong love of standup for me.

This was his best live show for real, in fact in my mind it's one of the best stand ups by a British comedian
I want more songs from Fred Dredd !

Lenny's old blues singer is as funny as "Calhoun Tubbs" that David Allen Grier played on In Living Color. 😄

It was funny then but if you take away the racial stereotyping what are you left with?
Crap now and crap then.
You looked for this video clip lmao.
@Lava91point0 there's always one tool 😂
Not funny.
Congratulations…Least funny comedian ever
Back when Lenny was brilliantly funny. Alas he's more interested in racist wokism these days.
Yo I always assumed he was probably good when he was young, but nah he’s always been trash. How did he have a career? It’s awful

@@llary Well humor is one of the most subjective things i guess. I think hes jokes are cheap, unsophisticated and delivered poorly.
