Donotage definitely is the best. I have been following Siim Land for a long time. He's a great trustworthy very intelligent guy. Siim's associated with Donotage.
I have been taking collagen for a couple of years now and have noticed improvement with my 71 year old skin. It has improved even more with the addition of glycine (about 4 to 5 grams a day) several months ago. A little while ago I was told I look like I'm in my fifties. Now, I don't believe that, but I might look a little younger than I am. The important thing, is it has helped with my overall health, my joints and tendons hurt less. My resistance workouts seem stronger with these two added supplements (and creatine). And for skin, and overall health, I eat clean, use a sauna regularly, and also use red light therapy. I think health is about doing a whole lot of things correctly together.
@@wocket42 Certainly, consuming bone broth can't hurt and will help to some degree. However, the statement that bone broth is "full of collagen and glycine" sort of folds back on itself because collagen tends to be 30 to 40 percent glycine, anyway. In a broader perspective, however, there is reason to consume additional supplemental glycine on top of any collagen (or bone broth or gelatin). Glycine is "nonessential" but synthesized in very small amounts in the human body, about 3 grams per day (therefore is really "conditionally essential"). Scientific research indicates additional glycine aids in the deposition of collagen in connective tissue. An additional amount of 12 to 35 grams is recommended. Besides supporting collagen glycine several other benefits (including synthesis of glutathione and creatine to beneficial levels). More information is provided in the recently published The Collagen Cure, DiNicolantonio and Land, published earlier this year. The book is relatively dense with useful information and citations.
Unfortunately, what I'm learning is some good healthy supplements and practices affect people and men/women differently. For example, I have ocular rosacea. I used to spend 20 minutes in the sauna 3x per week because I read it helps detox and a whole array of things. Then I read that heat, strenuous exercise (I'm a cross-fitter) and a few other things aggravate ocular rosacea. Also, collagen can cause anxiety in some people. From what I'm reading and from talking to guy friends and my research, it seems to be that these things affect women more. I assume you're a man by your name. I also learned that what protects men more from sensitivity, is testosterone. Men do not get dry eyes like women as they age.
I've taken protein for years before and after workouts. But my facial skin, wrinkles, and scars didn't improve in appearance, age, and texture until I added collagen peptides with the same protein supplementation.
Hi Dr. Brad Stanfield. I've been taking Hydrolysed collagen peptides for 7 months, and noticed great benefits in skin, hair etc!.... But the real change has been in the last 2 weeks when I added home made bone broth to my regime along with the hydrolysed supplements! I've always gone with the idea of synergistic relationships, so I take all of my anti ageing supplements at the same time as my fruit and veg smoothie (which contains the fruit and veg etc that all of the molecules are found in) This has worked amazing for me at 47 years old male, with constant amazement from friends,... But what I've noticed in the last 2 weeks that is most relevant to this video, is that my joints don't click anymore, and my ankles don't feel sore for the first few seconds when I jump out of bed in the morning! (And it's a raised bed on a mezanine!) Even when I was a teenager my joints (wrists and ankles) clicked more than they do now!
@Bobby BuChé just get them from my local butchers, then boil them for 24 hours, let it cool. Skim off the fat that settles on the top, pack it into take away plastic tubs and freeze it down.
@theguillaume73 I don't know how well each individual supplement is working to be honest! All I know is that 12 months ago I didn't want to live anymore. But then I started taking a fruit and veg smoothie everyday and in 28 days I felt happier and more stable than I've ever been in my life. I'll happily share the recipe on here, just share it and make sure that the like of the Dr check it out to make sure it's OK, as surely there will be complications for certain conditions. So I don't want to share it without the nessessary professional advice. I take it with most of the now known anti ageing supplements.

Until we have highly effective prescription drugs and treatments for aging, we need to rely on supplements and a healthy lifestyle, and we really need to know which supplements give us the most benefit for our money and time on a small and limited budget.
@@ArticBlueFox96 True we need to know but we should not become victims of scamsters and fraudsters who are selling millions of things which do not benefit us. Basically we make these people rich by throwing our money at them.
@2:22 only 500mg?? Are they talking about regular collagen peptides that you take usually around 10 g or more? Or more something along the lines of hyaluronic acid?
What I’m hearing when listening to these results is our body is designed to eat nose to tail of animals and benefit from each component of the animal, as each organ has different benefits for our body.
I'm late 40s, perimenopausal, and my nails and hair had become more thin and brittle to a noticeable degree. I'm lucky in that I didn't have major wrinkles yet, but after taking collagen for a number of weeks - along with my hair and nails becoming thicker and stronger, my facial skin does seem a bit better in terms of glow and overall suppleness. * The bonus is it seems to help some muscle aches and pains I was beginning to get too! I used to take a glucosamine + chondroiton supplement (which did help) but honestly, for me, the collagen works better! Collagen is one supplement where results can actually be seen and felt rather quickly. * There are different types with numbers or Roman numerals you'll notice on packaging labels - make sure a supplement has the appropriate type for what you're trying to accomplish AND make sure it's "hydrolyzed" as he says. You can either choose a collagen derived from "Bovine" or "Marine" - but I stick to Bovine because the Marine type tastes 🐟 fishy! Yuck.
Great recap. But could u b more specific about the quantitative improvement? Is it .01%, 1%, 10? Worth the effort? What's the decline without the supplement??
I've been taking collogen over a year, currently in Korea though and haven't been talking it as much, my skin has gotten much better- since I started taking it
I looked at the list of vitamins you are currently taking and I'm taking almost the exact same things. B12 is the only thing missing from your list. B12 helps with building red blood cells and many other really important things and most people do not get enough. I figure I could use all the red blood cells I can get to help build that collagen.
Yeah but you shouldn't take B12 randomly. Get your labwork done to see if you have a deficiency! You can take too much of a good thing. If you're eating an omnivore diet you're very very likely to have a health amount of B12 already in your body
I like collagen but many are of low quality. It definitely works, I know because I've taken it but prefer just taking it on and off every now and then.
Unfortunately we cannot completely stop aging at this time but a combination of good genetics and certain supplements goes a long way to really slow it down to a trickle. I'm 38 but people think I'm 10 years younger than that. I think looking younger runs in our family as we all look younger than our ages, at the hospital when my mother gave birth to me they could not believe I was her 5th child, my mother was 43 years old but they thought she was way younger than that. Avoiding lots refined sugar and alcohol plus keeping out of the strong summer sun are also important as the sun ages you more than age itself. Of course you can always supplement with vitamin D3 in combination with K2.
I was pretty impressed with the effect just getting rid of refined sugar and too much processed food had on my health. Two things. At 44, 15 years of hot yoga and also not getting whacked by sunburns in my youth have definitely helped my appearance. But people always thought I was younger when I was like 20 so there's genetics involved there too. Also, getting treated for a horrendous narcotics addiction with intravenous NAD+ when I was 40 had a stunning effect on my health and repaired not only my neural connections, but showed just how much crap had accumulated in my body, especially my gut due to gluten intolerance. Now I do it whenever I can afford it, every 4-6 months.
As a person with h-EDS all the collagen in the world hasn’t helped me any. I wish it were that simple. I still take it because it seems to slightly lubricate my joints, but nothing keeps the skin from sagging, pain from happening.
I ordered collagen after watching this, not just for my skin but my knees. I have patella femoral syndrome from a brutal summer job treeplanting when I was 22 (you know, when you're not thinking about the long-term effects of, like, anything on your body) and stubborn pain there that could use help. I'd also like to forestall any other damage I may have done on that job, since afterwards ALL of my joints ached, and one of my hands was swollen so badly I couldn't have used it for one more day on the job.
I take 30 grams of collagen peptide and 30 grams of whey protein every day and I havent had any joint issues ever since, pushing to failure in the gym 3-5 times a week.
There's no good evidence that collagen supplements affect joint issues, at least not that I'm aware of. This is of deep personal interest, since I've had knee problems for at least the past decade. I don't say this to knock you, but we should all have a healthy skepticism towards anecdotal evidence, even our own.
@@mattsmith1440 Well I like your scepticism, and I agree we should all have it. But before I started taking these supplements, I couldn't even bench press 65 kilo without getting joint issues. Now I am hitting PR with 80kilo bench press.
@@orion9k That's great, genuinely excellent. The probability, based on current evidence I can find, is that it has nothing to do with collagen specifically. And not that protein is bad, per day, but you might not need to take so much to get good results. Look at how big some get on a prison diet, with nowhere near so much as you're ingesting.
@@orion9k By big, I mean muscular. I've been researching this stuff for the last few years, and I've spoken to (other) doctors and scientists. The only ones I've heard pushing collagen have some connection to the industry. There's a lot of money on the line here. As far as protein is concerned, all I'm saying is you might not need as much as popular belief, or internet lore states. I've got nothing to lose or gain in this, and I have used both types of products myself, for similar reasons as yourself no doubt. You could possibly save money and get the same results.
I have another question. I tried to find a doctor brad store. I'm not sure if you realize how many there are. No doubt trying to capitalize on your work. I realize what you do now must be a huge effort, but it would be nice if I could just bye everything at your store. It's such a hassle to sift through all the nonsense online to find someone who can be trusted. If you don't intend on opening your own store can you please recommend someone you trust who we can all get our stuff from. I'd rather do business with one trusted company. Anyway as always thank you so much for what you do Doctor Brad. Your the best.
Much less expensive route: Gelatin (bulk) and powdered bromelain. If you are worried it won't break down in your stomach, (which it will) just add both to water, wait 15 minutes and drink. "Bromelain enzymes can hydrolyze peptide bonds from a polypeptide chain in proteins into simpler amino acids so that it is easier for the body to digest [12]. In this case, the enzyme bromelain acts as a biocatalyst that accelerates the reaction of breaking down proteins into amino acids."
Unfortunately taking collagen supplements gives me horrible cystic breakouts, I wonder if anyone else has experienced this - I've tried several brands, including Vital Proteins, and now I'm dealing with the aftermath even though I've stopped...
No difference at all. Your stomach juice will hydrolyze it. Any protein will be digested. This collagen product is a hyped up (money making venture) product that is no different than any other hydrolyzed protein.
Pasta sauce, berries and coffee! A spinach dip or hair skin and nail gummies, they have gelatin which is a protein for the skin Collagen and rashes idk if I wanna go back to that could just my personal reaction
I stopped buying the hydrolyzed collagen after using it every day for months and no seeing of feeling any results. I now drink bone broth that I make and beef unflavored gelatin dissolved in tea. My gastrointestinal problems are much less and I feel better.
@@miracoli16 But isnt the glycine produced once the protein is broken down in the body? I take 30g of protein and collagen anyway, so I am sure I get what I need.
I believe so, yes. I've never heard anyone advocating the need to cycle collagen or to stay off it for specific periods. It seems perfectly safe to take all year round.
The problem is finding a collagen powder that has been found to be safe according to third-party testing with regards to heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, mercury and arsenic. If any body finds such a product that has been found to be safe by 3rd party testing for heavy metals, please leave a reply and a link or name of the product if possible. Thanks for further clarification on what to look for in a collagen product. Previous to this, that wasn’t as clear as I’d have preferred. It is now though.
Once you have obtained significant improvements to your Collagen level after the supplementation (after say 12 weeks), what happens if you then stop the supplementation? I would very much like to know how quickly your Collagen levels then return to pre-supplementation. Is it very quick - say only 4 weeks and you are back to where you started, or does the effect last much longer, and if so how long? It would be good if the Collagen levels remand high for a reasonable amount of time after a course of supplementation. This could mean that you only needed a booster course of supplementation from time to time.
For me, I feel the difference within about 3 days in my joints & my skin isn't near as soft/supple overall. I think if I quit it longer term I'd see some facial decline, I just won't go that long without it to find out
I started using collagen two years ago, 10 gr a day in the evening with water, good for pain at my right hand but not for wrinkles of my eyes. I am 75 now and I would like take 20 gr. or more but I can't for it costs a lot for my budget.
I was finding about 15g of marine peptides had around the same number of amino acids/peptides as about 10g of bovine peptides. I personally take marine peptides because I avoid red meat and cow products because of sialic acids that cause a low-grade inflammatory condition in humans.
In terms of the effect, unlikely to matter because the original strands of collagen are hydrolysed (chopped up) into smaller peptides. However in theory, bovine sources would have less chance of contamination with heavy metals
@@DrBradStanfield Does the composition of the peptide matter? Gelita sells 3 different collagens and they say each one targets different parts of the body.

well I'm glad that there's hope.. I'm 36 years old already and I have always looked about 5 to 6 years younger than my age since the age of 21.. Until kind of recently. I was standing in front of my mirror with the bathroom window open and the sunlight revealed early signs of what some people call a puppet mouth.. I also have crows feet when I smile. when I was 22 I remember being asked what grade I was by some random girl when I was waiting on a friend to get off of her shift at Whataburger. Back when I was 29 some people thought I was only 23.. Now that i'm 36 and I'm creeping up on the age where my face is starting to show small signs of premature aging, I of course don't like it. I'm glad that there may be some sort of hope to keep that Youth. I've been called young man a few times in the passed few months and I'm going to miss being called that one day.. Because you can't really see my premature aging spots unless i'm in Sunlight.
If someone were wanting to compare collagen to protein, the protein used in such a study should be from an animal source, not the less bioavailabe plant/soy protein, especially if they are going to use equal amounts.
I have found by using diatematious earth mixed with aloe Vera gel and a quality carrier oil, my skin looks much better. The colleges needs the structure to cling to.
Wish these studies included Vegan alternatives like VeCollal etc. or collagen boosting supplements for people that don’t consume animals. Hopefully down the road 😊
It seems most collagen supplements are derived from cow hooves or fish. I’m not consuming that stuff! Sun Warrior make vegan collagen peptide derived from rice. I’ll give that a go in my smoothie.
I am wondering, if it's worth it to try to decrease the break down of collagen. Some people take it on a empty stomach. There are also a lot of natural substances likewhite tea, which exhibit anti-elastase and anti-collagenase (elastase and collagen are enzymes, which break down collagen), activities.
Soy protein is plant source which isnt uptaken well by the body as well as animal proteins so how fair is it that it was used in the healing study in comparison to collagen?

Yuck.
What "Type(s)" do you take? Some of them have more than one type (e.g. type I & II etc)
I'm in the same age group as you. Have you ever taken DHEA supplements before??
Great recap. But could u b more specific about the quantitative improvement? Is it .01%, 1%, 10? Worth the effort? What's the decline without the supplement??
Think who sponsored this studies
In my search for videos on MSM, your video was offered, so I'll comment. MSM is vital for production of collagen, in the body.
I've been taking collogen over a year, currently in Korea though and haven't been talking it as much, my skin has gotten much better- since I started taking it
Would gelatin work the same?
Direct, simple, fast, no-nonsense video! Outstanding!
Correct!
If you're eating an omnivore diet you're very very likely to have a health amount of B12 already in your body
cant you just get b12 from eating food?
@@andrassbb not if you have pernicious anemia
B12 is water soluble yeah? Should be fine to take, but you should look it up
If supplementing with collagen, be sure to have adequate intake of vitamin C and lysine, which are required to produce collagen in the body.
Short and sweet! Nice one doc👍🏽
What about oral elastin and oral keratin?
I appreciate this channel, but there is no way around it, that thumbnail is outrageous, scandalous clickbait unworthy of any professional.

That's great, genuinely excellent. The probability, based on current evidence I can find, is that it has nothing to do with collagen specifically. And not that protein is bad, per day, but you might not need to take so much to get good results.
Look at how big some get on a prison diet, with nowhere near so much as you're ingesting.
@@mattsmith1440 i think the reason they get big is due to increased fat storage 🤷♂️ their diet is probably a high carb diet
@@orion9k
By big, I mean muscular.
Also I’d like to hear your thoughts about different peptides like bpc-157,cjc,ipamorelin etc.would be very interesting…😊😊
They shrink the penis and testicles
Can you make a video on Bryan Johnson's Blueprint protocol? He seems to be gaining more and more steam these days. Worth a look.
For women HRT has a massive impact on collagen production after 50. Far more than drinking it.
Collagen is also found in foods. It seems as though just consuming it through food sources would be best?
Is that a thing ????
I noticed tooo...omg is it correlated
I just eat gelatin instead of taking hydrolyzed collagen. I wonder how different that really is?
No difference at all. Your stomach juice will hydrolyze it. Any protein will be digested. This collagen product is a hyped up (money making venture) product that is no different than any other hydrolyzed protein.
Collagen improved my skin but make me very anxious cause of the glutamic acid it converts into glutamate
Pasta sauce, berries and coffee! A spinach dip or hair skin and nail gummies, they have gelatin which is a protein for the skin
Collagen and rashes idk if I wanna go back to that could just my personal reaction
Screw anti-wrinkle. It's time we focus on actual reversal of aging. We are slowly advancing in it. We have the medical capacity to treat aging.
I would imagine that collagen is in most of the body tissue, like muscle and orgins. Am I wrong???
Supplementing 20g of collagen per day would be quite expensive. Is it necessary? Maybe lower dose also deliver the same results.
I stopped buying the hydrolyzed collagen after using it every day for months and no seeing of feeling any results. I now drink bone broth that I make and beef unflavored gelatin dissolved in tea. My gastrointestinal problems are much less and I feel better.
Take in account that the aging process is occurring in all organs, not just in the skin.
What about gelatin which is also hydrolyzed collagen and costs much less.
Collagen supplements are very very expensive.
3:15 why would they compare with soy protein?? Use Whey protein, I am sure that would have been better comparison !
Won't make a difference! Both are great protein-sources but do not contain enough glycine and proline for collagen.
@@miracoli16 But isnt the glycine produced once the protein is broken down in the body?
I take 30g of protein and collagen anyway, so I am sure I get what I need.
I've been taking collagen every day for about 6 months and I'm just now starting to notice the difference. It does work but it's slow.
Been taking Collagen Peptides 26 grams every day for 6 months and I still have eczema.
Take Organic grass Fed collagen hydrolyzed collagen ? Others have pesticides in them
Cut wheat
Can collagen be taken for a long time, years, without a period of rest or should it be considered more in terms of cycles?
I believe so, yes. I've never heard anyone advocating the need to cycle collagen or to stay off it for specific periods. It seems perfectly safe to take all year round.
It is like any hydrolyzed protein product. There is no difference.
thats great information, but i wonder if similar results could be achieved by consuming gelatin
Most of the research showing benefits have used hydrolyzed fish collagen.
Gelatin would only provide Glycine .. which then need to be synthesized to form part of the Collagen molecule
@@ChuckleberrySoup
it also provides proline, a key component of collagen
But are not most of these studies funded by industry? It seems there might be tampering or bias in most of the promising studies.
Important to keep in mind. These studies however were randomized and double blind. The methods seem reasonable and and measures are objective
I suspect others would want to know this sort of information as well. Thanks.
When compared to SOY protein! What about WHEY protein? Or other forms of protein?
Does not matter what you take. If your gut is out of whack you are not assimilating or absorbing properly.
Start with the gut.
Fasting.
Totally agree. But where to start. Many times it’s difficult to separate the reproducible results from the hype and commercialization.
I have cancer and can’t afford to lose any more weight because of fasting. I agree fasting has many beneficial effects.

Hey Brad, why dont you take glycine? or NAC? (GlyNaC)
The benefits from collagen may be due to glycine which is abundant in it.
@@JonathanOvnat That would make sense since around 20% of the peptides is made of glycine
I believe he said in a past video that he will start taking NAC when he is older as he probably doesn’t need it now
@@Lifeofraphael over 30% of our collagen is glycine.
Lots of glycine in the collagen peptide supplement that I take 😀
I've been using collagen powders for a couple of years and I haven't noticed any outward improvements, but maybe it is helping with other things I cannot see.
Try d-ribose and you’ll be pleasantly surprised! Note, don’t take it internally because it causes rapid glycation.
Collagen is great but not enough, you need elastin as well. The Body Kitchen sells a 1000 mg dose of marine elastin
RUclips always needed fantastic videos of supplements being judged analytically. Now the gap is filled . 👏👏👏
Dr. Feil (ultra-sports) had already recommended collagen-hydrolysat when I heard his presentation for hobby marathon runners in the year of 2007.
How does drinking and cooking with homemade bone stock compare with this?

Boil fish scales for collagen
When will we have DoNotAge products in Brazil?
Doc.. that study you cited used SOY protein.. any plant protein is less bioavailable than animal based protein..
I think if I quit it longer term I'd see some facial decline, I just won't go that long without it to find out
Pity the effect is lost so quickly.
There’s no chance that the benefits disappear in 3 days unless you have some kind of condition that saps your body of collagen 😂
I started using collagen two years ago, 10 gr a day in the evening with water, good for pain at my right hand but not for wrinkles of my eyes. I am 75 now and I would like take 20 gr. or more but I can't for it costs a lot for my budget.
I just eat a well planned, whole plant diet and after 22 years I look way younger than my age.
Great video Doc. Do you have any advice for vegans to boost Collagen production?
What types of collagen. It's confusing
Marine or bovine collagen? I’d like to hear your thoughts tho.🤝🤝thanks
I was finding about 15g of marine peptides had around the same number of amino acids/peptides as about 10g of bovine peptides.
I personally take marine peptides because I avoid red meat and cow products because of sialic acids that cause a low-grade inflammatory condition in humans.
From what I've read, marine is better for anti-aging but you have the issue of micro plastics. I use an organic and non-GMO bovine collagen.
I read marine peptides could be contaminated with heavy metals.
How do you feel about having a sponsor that still sells NMN and Resveritrol as anti-aging supplements given your Resveritrol videos that reveal the truth about the hype/scam over it?
Thanks 🙏 really appreciate the scientific and short format!
what do you think about glycine supplements?
dr brad i really admire your videos they are so informative but you should also make video on copper supplements which is vital for thd production of elastin and collagen.
Is Gelatin viable alternative to collagen?
No it shrinks the flappy skin around the dick shaft
Bone Broth and Gelatin are superior.
well I'm glad that there's hope..

Have not heard of that one, I’ll check it out thanks 😊
Thany you Brad for all you are doing for all of us!
Soy protein is plant source which isnt uptaken well by the body as well as animal proteins so how fair is it that it was used in the healing study in comparison to collagen?
guys stop lol it doesnt do anything. it just somehow helps us retain more fluids and moisturizes the skin to some extent.
Is there an optimal way to consume collagen? I like to add it to my morning coffee
Brad- what do you think about liquid collagen vs powder?
There's no difference. The powder dissolves in water. I buy powder but drink it. I mix it with Gatorade Zero powder for flavor.
Has anyone compared collagen to glycine, proline & lysine? I doubt that there will be a difference in anything but price & ethics.
What is the appropriate dosage per day? That last study was 500mg/day
There is a mistake in the video. In the study "Participants took four tablets a day, which is equivalent to 2 g of collagen supplements per day."

It's a matter of weeks. That was my personal experience, too.
Are there studies that show any benefit on longevity? These show a short term benefit from short term use.
I took marine collagen for a year with zero effect in my skin. I really wanted to believe it works, but in myself personally I saw no results. I'm 42.
