1992 US team. Hands down. They'd embarrass the "redeem team" in front of everyone. Bird, Jordan, Malone, Drexler, Magic....I mean c'mon. That's pure badassedness.

Kobe was the glue for the Redeem team so without him, they fall apart. Whereas the dream team works on SO many levels. I love seeing Barkley work with Pippen lol who would've guessed.

Ya and stockton belongs fs.. but they built a championship team around Isiah... first time ever.. magic came in the league with Kareem so he had a great head start and Stockton got to play with malone.... the pistons do not win 2 rings without Isaiah thomas.. they might not even have been a playoff team... his greatness truly gets overlooked... in one season they beat michael Jordan's bulls larry bird celtics and magic Johnson's Lakers in the finals and that was the 80s so they were all at the top of there games!!!!

This was the best assembling of basketball talent I've seen. Even with the collegiate guy, Laettner. And they had a number of guys who were hurt and didn't play too much. Stockton, and a few others. Especially Larry Bird. Bird didn't want to be a part of the Dream Team because his back was destroyed, but Magic convinced him to play. Bird played sporadically but when he did, he kicked butt with his passing and shooting. Great reaction guys!!

MJ and Scottie going against Toni Kukoc so hard, even though he was going to be their team mate at the bulls, had to do with the hype surrounding him. He was being publicized as maybe the best european player ever and the Bulls owner kept talking openly about what a fantastic player he was and how much he was looking forward to have him with the Bulls. They were offering Toni Kukoc a contract worth more than what Scottie Pippen was making, and when Scottie asked for an improvement of his contract he was told "no". So not only was their boss saying how great Toni Kukoc was, but he was offering him more money than Scottie Pippen was making. That of course did not go down well with Scottie and was considered disrespectful, and MJ had Scotties back. Their going so hard on Kukoc was not about Kukoc, it was about putting things into perspective for the management of the Bulls.

Michael told Rod Thorn that if Isiah was on the team then he wouldn't play. That pretty much sealed his fate. They couldn't have a Dream Team without Mike. And Thomas had little support on the team. Bird didn't like him because he told the press that if Bird was black he would be just another player. He and Magic had a falling out because Isiah questioned Magic's manhood and sexuality publicly so he didn't want Isiah on the team either. Malone and Pippen weren't fans of his either.

No disrespect against Isaiah Thomas but I think he would have had a hard time fitting in with the rest of the team because he was seen as the driving force of the bad boy pistons and most of the players didn’t want him on the team. When you set out to hurt or have others hurt, it makes it hard for others to respect you. It’s not something that happens as part of the competition if you purposely do it game after game and year after year.

I don’t care. For me, it was Bird & Magic. They saved the NBA. Without them, the NBA wouldn’t have become what it did. And they were the heart & soul of this team. As for Larry, this was doubly important to him Bcuz he was already planning to retire so he knew this was his last games as a professional. He also used to watch the Olympics with his dad & I remember reading that after the games, when the Dream Team stood on that Dias, he was hoping his dad was watching from Heaven. - Chuck Daly was the coach of the Pistons and the Dream Team. There’s your Pistons representation.
    - Multiple players didn’t like Isiah, not just MJ. Having John Stockton available made him even more expendable.
    - The Bulls offered Kukoc more money than what Scottie Pippen was making. MJ and Pippen were sending a message to the Bulls management.
    - Reportedly, there’s a video of one of the scrimmages. This video is probably the holy grail of old school nba basketball. Lets hope it exists and one day sees daylight.

The biggest difference between The Dream Team and any other Olympic team particularly today was the actual "team" aspect which so many ppl just gloss over. The game then was not like today, players had specific positions, roles, jobs inside an offense. They just didn't put the best 5 guys on the floor, they didn't just line up the best five athletes on the floor.
Adding players like Shaq or even Isiah could and would have caused a disruption to the team. Shaq was a rookie like Later but we're you gonna play him over Ewing and Robinson at that time? Was Shaq like Latner gonna be comfortable being the team b*tch..getting coffee and carrying luggage? Maybe. Latner could fill in at least on paper for Bird in practice due to Larry being so beat up!
We're you gonna run a 3 point guard system w Magic, Stockton and Isiah?
Ppl blame Jordan for not wanting Isiah on the squad but no one wanted him on it..everyone resented the way the Pistons played..they resented the way Isiah would never own his role in that! Magic and him were close friends before Magic got aids, Isiah did not embrace him after and that created alot of negative energy there.
Jordan, Magic, Bird did not want him..only 3 players that mattered...no others would put themselves as him or me because they may loose that but after the big 3 decided against it.. obviously no one said anything! Silence speaks volumes!

Well not sure if you saw it but the head coach of the Dream Team was Chuck Daly the coach of the Detroit Pistons. I think unfortunately when the Pistons left the court early and didn't shake the Bulls hands played a major part why Isiah didn't make the team along with the bad boy reputation sealed it. The Tony K story was mainly because of the GM rubbing it at MJ and Scottie about him making more and was the Bulls future. So they decided to crush him on the court as a statement to the Bulls GM. I'm biased but the 92 team would crush any other USA team. You had killer clutch guys that would play every second and fight for the W. Jordan, Bird, Magic definitely had that instinct look at the number of championships they had! They didn't have any weakness with that group. I believe the USA was gonna destroy the rest but team USA wanted to keep a positive image to the world which unfortunately the Piston physicality could be seen as a negative. Charles Barkley was definitely the ambassador of this team going out and enjoying the Olympics. Stockton also went out with his family but most people didn't recognize him at all!!! Which I'm sure he enjoyed being low key and not the swarm the others received.

Thankfully, everything worked out and Kukoc put up much better numbers in their next meeting in the '92 Olympics and then helped the Bulls win 72 games in the '95/'96 season. Cool reaction video!.

Pistons from that era were a specific team. You had guys like Thomas averaging 20, Dumars 17, their 6th man Johnson 15. Outside of that it was a bunch of players around 10, split minutes, they were built to intimidate you, and they could outscore you, because you couldn't score on them.
They had no individual special players, although Isiah was the closest to one. Rodman was and has always been a defensive force, but his legacy was cemented with his run with the Bulls. Had they not rescued him our last image of him would be with pink hair in San Antonio averaging 17 rebounds and acting like a damn fool.
There was no player on those Pistons teams that was top 3 at their specific position. It was the team, the plan, the execution that was great.
Every player on the Dream Team was individually better than any player on Detroit. And every one of those players had been punished by that Detroit team.

I don’t agree. Zeke and joe were both top tier. Mark Aguirre sacrificed his allstar role to take a backseat. But anyone who watched him at his peak knows how good he was in Dallas. Then u got the arguably best defender and rebounder in the game in Rodman who was in his prime, laimbeer was a really good player who’s game was overshadowed by his reputation as a dirty player. Vinny as well. They had a lot of talent. Not to mention before they traded for mark they had Adrian dantley who was a star, and they were a big time fast paced scoring team in their early years as opposed to the defense they were known for later on.

I would highly, highly recommend watching the USA VS Cuba game from 1992, 1st round of the Tournament of the Americas. It was the first public showing of the Dream Team, and they wanted to show everyone what they could do. You'll never see a more perfect game of basketball played by one team.

There's another thing to consider when it comes to Isaiah. The only 2 old guys on the team were Magic and Bird. Isaiah would have been a third. He was past his prime. By that point in time, it's true, Stockton wasn't as accomplished as Isaiah. But on the other hand, the entire team didn't hate him either.

After they qualified for the Barcelona Olympics the Green team spent a month or two months I think it was a month in Monte Carlo just tightening their game and playing golf and watching women on the beach. The entire time they were in Barcelona they had to have police escorts for their bus because the crowds just got bigger. And as I understand it Magic's basic feeling was that if Isaiah was on the team Larry Bird would refuse to be on the team and if Larry Bird wasn't on the team magic Johnson wasn't on the team

In None of Larry’s books or interviews or even Magics interviews that I’ve seen (& trust me Ive seen a LOT) has it EVER been said that Larry had an issue with Isaiah. Larry always held Bill Laimbeer responsible for his own actions. If anyone had a beef with Isaiah, it’d be Magic or MJ. Magic felt Isaiah betrayed him by insinuating he was gay for contracting HIV, & im not sure what MJs problem was but I think it had to do with the refusal to shake hands on Isaiah’s part after the Pistons lost to the Bulls in the Championship.

John Stockton is the greatest at his position , he knew his role
. Also aside from his basketball record - not all of the players even wanted to participate in the Olympic game (a few of them had to talk each other into it) but along with the agreement that they would do it , a few of the players (MJ , Pippen) and maybe a few others when they agreed to be on the team they had it as a stipulation that Isaiah not be on the team . His persona reputation & attitude at the time was not wanted around them . I do agree he was a great player when he wasn't playin dirty , however Stockton was the better choice . You should watch it react to the Dream team documentary , it's worth the watch and it goes into more detail about it from the players and coaches point of view .

I know this comment is very late but yes Chris Mullin could play. 1992-93, he averaged 25.9 ppg while shooting 45.1% from 3 pt range. 4 times in his career he shot 44% or better from 3 pt range. I got a chance to meet him a couple of years ago when St John's practiced in our gym getting ready for the NCAA tournament. Mitch Richmond was an assistant on that St John's team too. Richmond was the third member of TMT. If you aren't familiar with him, check him out. One of the top 20 SGs of all time. Mullin can still shoot lights out, once his back loosens up.
