Underrated? He still appears in Guitar magazines regularly and is interviewed all over the place. PRS have a relatively new Joe Walsh model. In guitar circles he certainly isn´t underrated, he is still considered a guitar god and a major influence on most contemporary musicians. I guess it depends on what you read and watch :)

And Joe Vitale is not even in the same _league_ as Jim Fox, the James Gang's drummem. Look for a live JG gig from The Beat Club, "Walk Away," & you'll see what I mean.
What a riff and solo blows my mind how good these 70s artist were compared the total contrived rubbish nowadays. Im stuck in the 70s and always will be.
What makes Joe so good is he is such a lyrical player. No wasted notes, and almost his bends are so tasty. He's not out to be nerdy. Nerdy is fine, but playing for the song, and getting out of the way when appropriate is the sign of a great musician.
His solos have melody alligned to power, the ones who learned shacked up in their bedrooms trying 'get' the records that inspired them are the best players, worked it out for themselves, no lessons so they all their own unique sound.

Bone Chilling , just Bone Chilling . I'd rate this in top 10 guitar songs of all time along w/ Outlaws , Green Grass . At 4'19 he keeps upping the note , higher and higher and higher and keeps you on the line like a trout .... To me this was an Epic Performance , just sick .

Joe Walsh is one of my favorite rockers, especially after I saw him in the Drew Carey show. Of course I knew who he was, but I did a double take. He's the fun guy you want to hang with. And this coupled with his guitar mastery makes him extremely awesome.

I loved the tonal richness from the two keyboards and the tympani.
I can recommend all the James Gang albums, and especially recommend The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get, one of the best albums in my extensive music collection. Never disappoints even after scores of plays.
I saw this show right around this very time.....in Lincoln, Nebraska in @ Sept. or Oct. 1973. I was a college freshman....had seen a ton of rock artists....top notch acts since I lived in Arizona and we had bands play either coming or going to play San Diego or L.A. But this show I saw with Walsh....and Barnstorm....was THE BEST SHOW I've ever seen.....and I'm now 67 in 2022. THE BEST.

He is sorely under rated and should be acknowledged as a true legend in the rock universe. I saw him only once when he was with the Eagles in the late 70's when they headlined at an outdoor concert with Heart and the Little River Band. Epic concert. !

That slow passage at 1:05 reminds me of the song Dogs by Pink Floyd. That same song has a lyric "the bad blood slowly turns to stone." Makes me wonder if Waters and Gilmour were listening to Joe Walsh before they recorded Animals.
I thought the beginning section and guitar solo was the inspiration to the end guitar solo to “Pigs 3 Different Ones”…… Gilmour was definitely a Walsh fan, as I’m sure Walsh is a Gilmour fan as well 👍🏼. I didn’t even realize the “Dogs” lyrical similarities, this song definitely has Animals all over it.
I actually saw this concert. It was taped for TV at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1972. Cheech and Chong also performed, although much of their performance was cut for TV. Bonnie Bramlett and Friends were there as well. The concert was produced by Dick Clark, who was there introducing the acts. It was a memorable event and my girl friend had somehow arranged free tickets to it!

That's a 1960 Gibson Les Paul he's playing. That big gawdy belt is covering the back of that beautiful guitar with massive buckle rash. It will be easy to identify that one when it comes up on auction.
Joe understood music and a simple way of life that everybody in this day and age could benefit from. I've listened to him since the early 70's and his lyrics inspired me like no other.

Joe Walsh is one of the most underrated guitarists of all time. The Eagles made a very wise decision when they brought this guy on board.

Joe’s guitar “talks”! He is like nobody else with a guitar! That is NOT to take away from MANY other great guitarists of our time. Indeed, we’ve been blessed in this country with lots of em. But when Joe plays the strings, you know it’s him!!! And that face, while he strums !!!! He literally becomes one with it. 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
That slow passage at 1:05 reminds me of the song Dogs by Pink Floyd. That same song has a lyric "the bad blood slowly turns to stone." Makes me wonder if Waters and Gilmour were listening to Joe Walsh before they recorded Animals.

I thought the beginning section and guitar solo was the inspiration to the end guitar solo to “Pigs 3 Different Ones”…… Gilmour was definitely a Walsh fan, as I’m sure Walsh is a Gilmour fan as well 👍🏼. I didn’t even realize the “Dogs” lyrical similarities, this song definitely has Animals all over it.

Pretty much speechless, and I've heard it hundreds of times over the years. Definitely one for the ages!
I actually saw this concert. It was taped for TV at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1972. Cheech and Chong also performed, although much of their performance was cut for TV. Bonnie Bramlett and Friends were there as well. The concert was produced by Dick Clark, who was there introducing the acts. It was a memorable event and my girl friend had somehow arranged free tickets to it!

Yes, they also did the Bomber and Funk 49. At one time Funk 49 from this concert was posted on You Tube but I haven't seen it for awhile. I didn't mention that Tower of Power also performed for this event.

Joe was on top of his game then. Saw him open for Elton John at Dodger Stadium that same year (75) Great concert!

That's a 1960 Gibson Les Paul he's playing.
That big gawdy belt is covering the back of that beautiful guitar with massive buckle rash.
It will be easy to identify that one when it comes up on auction.
Joe understood music and a simple way of life that everybody in this day and age could benefit from. I've listened to him since the early 70's and his lyrics inspired me like no other.
