Thanks to you, I was able to follow this season from beginning to end. Glad we got to experience top 16 with you, and giving all the context and stories needed for the matches. Looking forward to season 2!
That awards ceremony was embarrassing. No top 8 medal ceremony of any kind, immediately jumping to Chris who just lost, only giving Uma like a minute to talk, having no professional translators and making Xian do it, leaving Uma hanging as he stands there awkwardly as a nothing trailer plays, and ending it off on Rob walking across the stage as everybody just forgot about the damn first place trophy still sitting there. It made the whole event feel more like a locals with an Arby's gift card on the line and not a world championship for a million dollars.
Perhaps you guys don't know that UMA only brought US$300 on his way for this tournament. There is no sponsor and he was on his own. He was planned to eat only one meal a day, but luckily the game organiser provided some free meals. This is a true story from US$300 to 1M.
Uma qualified through Aubi Cup, the WW tournament for Taiwan/Hong Kong/Macao tournament, by defeating Chris Wong in the grand final. Also earlier than Aubi Cup in Asia East online premier, the top 4 are uma, Chris Wong, NL and Leshar. NL took the W there but that is the real stacked region.
I was tryin to tell people not to sleep on 'em. But there names aren't Punk, Tokido, etc so my friend group thought I was nuts when I told them there was no way at least 1 of either Uma or Chris Wong made it citing the last offline we had them in. I got a small (big) amount of satisfaction being right. But more, the satisfaction was people actually learning names that aren't just the legacy players. That players like Kusanagi can show his stuff. That Asia East is a real region. That in this format a player that never would have been able to make it due to the financial burden (Chris, Uma) can show their worth on the world stage and come out on top.
1:43:54 Uma qualified out of Asia East over Chris Wong with a double 3-0. People that knew those players and followed Uma from that point knew he was pretty strong.
It was so refreshing to see a new player win and not the same 5 guys that could afford the travel all over the place i Hope this format stays brining new people
winning one game (if they even won at all) does not prove anything. Consistency is the key, that's why Mena is the best in the world so far.@@BlackMetalVayu

This Capcom Cup was really great! I definitely had a lot of fun from LCQ to the Grand Final 😎. Still wonder what happened to Phenom between group phase and SFL 😬. As an EU fan, I was pretty disappointed to see him play only one match in SFL and that wasn't even the ankor ... wtf? 😑
I was really happy to see Uma win, Juri is one of the characters I play. And I might be a hater, but I thought it was way more fun rooting for him and Gotchakun as they knocked out the Lukes. I'm casual, but I felt like they just had more tricky tech while the Lukes were just buisness as usual. Of course they are amazing players that I don't want to throw shade on, but I feel justified on being kind of sick of Luke since I watched a lot of the pools matches too.
It is criminal that Leshar got out of Group F in winners (winning sets against AngryBird, Mena, EndingWalker, etc) and went on to get 5th place overall to only get 0.5% of the prize pool. 10k out of $2,000,000. Overall great video btw Brian and cool tournament to watch I just wanted to mention that again cause it's crazy.
@InfernalBlaze3D are they? I know the prize pool is gonna be similar to previous years as per the announcement videos, so I assume its less than this year but first place still get 1mil.
@manuelito1233 the President of Capcom said the scaling would be back to normal next year, so 24th place all the way up to 17th wouldn't be getting small payouts and the scaling for the high tiers would be less extreme.
This is my favourite way to watch SF6 turnaments: With high-quality insights and commentary pointing out nuances and interactions a casual player like me wouldn't recognize. That being said: Why was the final match between Gachikun and Chris Wong cut here? It's not just the last set before Grand Finals, it was also a super tense set. So why cut the final and most important game for that set of all things?
Uma only brought 300 dollars to this event and planned to eat 1 meal a day and stay in hotel cause he dont have any sponsors , while he get some food from game organizers and winning this tournament while wearing his Mio-sa Hoodie , he a fan of Ookami Mio from Hololive Vtuber lol and after he won he tag Mio on his twitter and Mio respond and watch his tournament
Why did they interview Chris Wong first before Uma who actually won the contest? That was strange. lol Not sure why people felt sad that Chris Wong lost it... I am from Taiwan and I didn't even know who Uma is until today! holy shit. one million dollar?
That's what I kind of thought, I was sad Angry Bird and Snake Eyez didn't make it out of pools (even though I kind of expected it). But I also liked Xien and Fuudo. At least Fuudo had some good games. But by that point I was also a Leshar fan, and by the end of it I was rooting for Gotchakun and Uma just because I liked how they played.
Not to speak for anyone but I would guess it’s because Taiwan isn’t an especially talked about region when it comes to fighting games. When it comes to east Asia most people think about Japan, Korea, or China as the main heavy hitters. I couldn’t even name another player from Taiwan but that could just be my ignorance.
I don't understand why Chris had to win 3 sets in a row against Uma, yet Uma only had to win one to get the prize ? Wasn't it the Grand Final ? What did Chris had to qualify for ? I don't get it.
Chris was in grand finals out of losers. UMA had beat him in winners. So he had to reset the bracket. Pretty standard stuff. Grand finals is always like a double match
This is how double elimination works and why you want to stay on Winner's Side. Chris had lost already to UMA earlier and was put into the loser's bracket. So he had to beat him in a set to "reset" the bracket and basically knock UMA into Loser's Side first and then beat him again in that bracket to win the whole thing. UMA's advantage is he only has to win one set since he never lost a set in the first place.
It's a double elimination bracket. Think of it like having two lives. Chris Wong lost once, so he lost a life, but UMA hasn't lost yet, so he still had one to spare.

Props to UMA, but it's hard to call the winner of this wack setup as the "champ". The best regions, i.e. Japan, were artificially limited slots. The animations are better in SF6
Tekken 8 has the graphics and not much else in terms of looks
Different art direction (also they made sf6 for old gen too so there's that)
Tekken has better technical graphics but SF6 has better art direction, character design, and animation.
No it doesn’t. Both games look great. No need to be weirdos, who belittle anything that isn’t the game they like.
