I think it’s more so because Brian F is an actual player and not a commentator/personality. No disrespect to those people, Brian f knows how those tournament feels, sharing similarities, etc...
@@ismaeljrp1 Kind of. I just think Brian f has the thing of "well I was this close qualifying to capcom cup or winning this big event, so I understand how it feels." But for the other commentators/personalities? There's a good chance that they never got that far (because competition is pretty hard)
I love how Punk's eyes light up when he talks about all the people who were part of his journey; His brothers, Smug, Deltron2020 and Big Bird, and especially his SFL team mates and friends. There would be no Punk without his community.
Working with Punk at FlyQuest has been nothing but memorable. Greatest, sweetest & funniest dude I've had the pleasure of getting to know as a player in esports.
@@ZoMbi5lAy3r I've listened to a lot of them. Including the ones that came and went, this is hands down the best one imo. Second place goes to No Frills with Yipes and Chris Matrix. Third went to the old Gootecks podcast back in the SF4 days. Before he went full Gootecks
What impressed me the most from the EVO win was not the play (that was impressive), but the fact that he managed to not explode upon winning EVO. He looks at Bird going for a hug but gives him a moment before hugging. Then it hits him. And the chant "You deserve it." that was magical. God bless fgs. God bless the community :)
not only that but looking at him for a split second without realizing his brother had lost but with a smile like ''i did it bro lets celebrate'' and then reality kicked in and he realized
Brian has such a talent for communication and interviews. I've never been a fighting game talk show kinda guy but Trash Talk has been a pleasure to watch.
So me and two of my kids ages 9 and 11 both watched Evo live last year and watching punk win for the United States really got my 9-year-old really really into fighting games It was awesome I hope he understands what impact is Evo win has on the community as a whole.
It's awesome to walk down memory lane with Punk and see his growth, not just as a player but also as a human. Thanks Brian, editor and Punk for this awesome interview.
This was a great trash talk. I was part of the crowd that wanted punk to lose when he was super dominant in sfv since it made the viewing experience boring but after watching this and finding out punk was grinding since he was a kid and wasn’t that hot till he sat down and learned the game made me full of respect for him. I also like how he acknowledged it wasn’t a choke but that his opponent was just better that day.
passing off a choke as his opponents just being better doesn't make sense though. If you make some key unforced errors, that's more on you than your opponent.
@@gameclips5734 Feels like this conversation will just with many semantics. You can say he choked at evo and capcup but you can say that about everyone. End of the day, the opponent was better that moment regardless of forced or unforced error and I think that's the main reasoning behind the statement.
Congratulations on the perfect culmination of the Trash Talk series. Perfect balance of guest talking/providing the content and you driving as an amazing host/interviewer. No leading the interviewee, one of the best fgc interviews that exists.
That was a great interview! Man, reliving that evo win got me a lil emotional like the first time...That clip that went around where Punk is exiting the evo building and the crowd parts around him and everyone is chanting...man - one of the all time best EVO moments for sure
For me and a lot of people who got in at the SF5 era punk was one of the American players who's stories we felt like we were apart of from the beginning. Thanks for taking the time to do this Brian. It's refreshing to see someone with such a big name in the FGC be so humble in victory and hope that attitude spreads to players at every level.
Punk needed this interview. I feel like with time, people forgot he's a normal dude who just happens to be insane at SF. His EVO win still sends chills. I still won't forget my buddy and I yelling "OH SHIT HE'S GOING TO WIN THIS!". It was incredible to watch that happened live. I knew that shit ment the world to him.
Punk winning EVO is up there with the greats. EVO moment 37 shows you how damn cool these games can be, and Punk's EVO win shows how amazing the community can be. Watching that final round unfold down to the wire was so intense and the aftermath was just a wildly emotional ride. I know SO many people were hoping for Punk to pull through. This interview really brought back that moment so well. Great job to the both of you!
Probably won't see this Punk but idc what anyone else says about you man, to me you're clearly a good guy with a competitive spirit. Keep being you, because like many others you inspire me to not just talk but put action to those words 🐐
I love the passion punk has for the community and the game itself. People can call him out for salty tweets whatever but we all do the same thing. We all rage, and that’s literally okay. What matters is that Punk is such a seriously genuine dude with an absolute love for the game. Great stuff we love to see it ❤❤❤
The intro was so well put together it might as well have been the start to a full on documentary. Really set the scene for someone like me with only passing knowledge of the fgc, Amazing work
I love how much respect Punk gives towards his fellow competitors. I know we all see the funny clips but at the end of the day he just loves the game and the grind and the people around him that helped him get there. It's really awesome to see the community be just that, community.
Great interview. I'll always been a fan, but this is the first time I've heard Punk speak at length like this. He seems like a classy young dude. Much love to you both. Thanks for the upload!
Love what you’re doing with the trash talk series. This is adding some much needed substance to the FGC in a space that I didn’t know needed to be filled.
As a newer fan of SF, i absolutely loved the clips interspersed in the video that showed off what you two were discussing. Great job as always Brian, this episode was a banger!
Awesome interview, watched it in chunks but it was very enjoyable and Brian you're great at open ended questions that allows the person being interviewed to give elaborate answers!
There is a New Street Fighter God and he is American Can’t help but feel proud of Punk as someone who grew up around Philly and I wish nothing but the best for him in the future
Punk has gradually become so much more likable, and I think it has to do with what he said about accepting that sometimes you're going to lose. Instead of robbing his opponent of credit and calling them a bot, or blaming input lag or rollback or the monitors, he just takes his L and moves on. Punk with less salt is way more palatable.
I'm not sure Punk even remembers the genius of his own victory at CEO - Flash Kick hits twice at normal range, but there's a specific range where it only hits once. Punk deliberately walked forward and crouch blocked to make Caba think he could chip damage him for the KO, but then moved back a pixel so that only one of the hits would land so he could survive and punish. This was Punk's own explanation at the time
Partway through, and I honestly loved the way he talked about Momochi. You could tell that even if he was super comfortable playing against him and considered him not much of a threat, that he still acknowledges the reason why being that he was closely studied, and that he also owes Momochi a lot for sort of showing him the way he now plays SF (along with any of his other inspirations of course). Also when he mentioned just loving being on stage with big bird, it really dawned on me how unique it is to stand up on a stage like that with a friend. So often, you're sharing that moment with someone who is more of a competitor, and often winning on stage is a celebration with just yourself. Sharing that moment on a competitive stage with a friend really does feel like an amazing experience in itself, even if it ended a little rougher for one of them.
As someone who had a rough upbringing (shelters, boy's homes, roach infested houses, eating syrup and bread sandwhiches for dinner, etc), to hear Punk saying he just knew he had something he was meant to do to help his family (23:07) was dope. I cant lie, my eyes got watery when he won EVO. Shoutout to Punk
I know he's not the only one who plays on pad but punk has always been the main representation to me of just play on whatever you're comfortable with you don't need a fancy hitbox controller or something. When I was first getting familiar with watching him I always thought it stood out how he'd demolish all these players with their massive cool looking device on their lap with his little pad
punk has been so fun to watch over the years, i love how me makes us laugh with one liners like ‘thats Daigo’ but also puts so much heart and realness in the way helives. punk, you are a standup dude!
