She sings like a treble - pure, without vibrato. An opera wannabe would destroy this song, but treble voices and treble-like voices really tug at the heartstrings on the high C.
For a brief moment listening to this you can forget all the terrible things that humanity has done to one and another, and believe that there is peace and beauty in our world.
All these previous statements and comments make it absolutely clear that people listen very superficially to music, not noticing at all the profound meaning of this psalm that clearly says that murder and sin are inherent to mankind and asking forgiveness to God. That's summoned in the title MISERERE
The Institutional Church made a BIG MISTAKE when they let all of these great liturgical works fall by the wayside and substitute trite and foolish sounding Folk Tunes and guitar Masses. These marvelous works touched the soul in ways that today's church music just cannot come close to. This kind of music transports you to a place beyond words and tunes.
Robert Pavlick perfectly summarised sir. There is a core of something so utterly beautiful and intangible here that it might be as close as we get on this earthly plane to ‘ hearing and feeling the mystery of God’ x
True but consider two things. One: those high notes at the Sistine Chapel where this was once exclusively sung came from the castrati, not boys or women (who were excluded then as now at the Vatican). Two: how many singers and musicians at guitar or mariachi Masses are capable of singing in Latin and doing this type of music well.
I agree with you. Church music ought to be of the greatest quality. Fortunately I have found out there are indeed a few churches and chapels across the world where choirs do strive for beauty during Mass, out of deep respect for the liturgy. I pray you may find such a place not too far from where you live. God bless you.
Robert Pavlick we sing this every year on good Friday after the stations of the cross. It is a musical setting of psalm 51 the repentance psalm. We are a choir in Bride St Wexford Ireland.
Psalm 51 speaks of the sorrowful King David asking God forgiveness after committing adultery with Bathsheba, Uriah's wife and one of David's faithful warriors. The opening line: "Miserere mei Deus, secundum magnam misericordiam tuam", Have mercy on me, O God, according to your great mercy....Where David cries to God for forgiveness and mercy! Just a glorious prayer and song by Gregorio Allegri!
7 “Judge[a] not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what [b]judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. Matthew 7 You do provide truth though the scripture. We must repent and ask for forgiveness, and completely surrender ourselves to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
I regard the William Byrd Ave Verum Corpus a close second. Is anyone familiar with the child Mozart’s encounter with this in a visit with his father Leopold to the Sistine Chapel? Dangerous!
This is NOT what Allegri wrote. Imagine that Da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa and subsequently other artists added bits and took bits away. This is what happened with the original Miserere. Yes, it's beautiful sounding piece, but it is "as arranged by" Alfieri and Mendelssohn, the latter hearing an ornamentation during a performance that he subsequently transcribed in the wrong (higher) key, hence the high "C" that makes everyone swoon.
Miserere mei, Deus, secundum magnam misericordiam tuam Have mercy on me, O God, in your goodness Et secundum multitudinem miserationum tuarum, dele iniquitatem mean In your great tenderness wipe away my faults; Amplius lava me ab iniquitate mea: et a peccato meo munda me Wash me clean of my guilt, purify me from my sin Quoniam iniquitatem mean ego cognosco: et peccatum meum contra me est semper For I am well aware of my faults, I have my sin constantly in mind Tibi soli peccavi et malum, coram te feci: ut justificeris in sermonibus tuis, et vincas cum judicaris Having sinned against none other than you, having done what you regard as wrong. Quoniam si voluisses sacrificium, dedissem utique : holocaustis non dedectaberis Sacrificium Deo spiritus contribulatus : cor contritum et humiliatum, Deus, non despicies Sacrifice gives you no pleasure, were I to offer holocaust, you would not have it My sacrifice is this broken spirit, you will not scorn this crushed and broken heart Benigne fac, Domine, in bona voluntate tua Sion : ut ædificentur muri Jerusalem Tunc acceptabis sacrificium justitiae, oblationes et holocausta: tunc imponent super altare tuum vitulos Show your favour graciously to Zion, rebuild the walls of Jerusalem Then there will be proper sacrifice to please you - holocaust and whole oblation - and young bulls to be offered on your altar

Greetings from South Africa. The best heavenly rendition I have ever heard. Beautiful blended voices. Every part playing its role to perfection. The AAA soprano is immaculate. The Latin song msinging makes it even more powerful Just fantastic.
I truly believe some music was arranged in heaven for us humans and sent to earth to give us a glimpse of heaven. This piece is one of 'em. A gift from God.
Ethereal is a fantastic word to describe this song. It's just so special. I'm not a believer, nor am I interested in choir music, but this song is something else.
Agree. This is astonishing. Who is the human who created this? Can only be a genius or close to God. I have wet eys everytime I hear it even though I have listended to eat dozens of times
I have been to many churches, but I have never heard a hymn as beautiful as this one. God has blessed all of the singers with a great and awesome talent.
11 years, and how this song still forces tears into the eyes of many is truly impressive. The song seems to move you into some ethereal place within the mind and it is just beautiful. Such a serene sound produced by humans, I mean its extraordinary how voices can come together to create masterpieces like this almost as if angels themselves came to show us what true music sounds like, kind of makes you reflect on many things. Music hits places far into the soul and it's truly amazing.

It's excellent. probably the only one I've heard to rival the 1980 Tallis Scholars version. Whoever managed the technical aspects of the recording is also to be greatly credited.
The Lyrics of this repentance song masterpiece in English is Psalm 51 “Have mercy upon me, O God: after Thy great goodness. According to the multitude of Thy mercies, do away mine offences. Wash me thoroughly from my wickedness: and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my faults: and my sin is ever before me. Against Thee only have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that Thou mightest be justified in Thy saying, and clear when Thou art judged. Behold, I was shapen in wickedness: and in sin hath my mother conceived me. But lo, Thou requirest truth in the inward parts: and shalt make me to understand wisdom secretly. Thou shalt purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: Thou shalt wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Thou shalt make me hear of joy and gladness: that the bones which Thou hast broken may rejoice. Turn Thy face from my sins: and put out all my misdeeds. Make me a clean heart, O God: and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from Thy presence: and take not Thy Holy Spirit from me. O give me the comfort of Thy help again: and stablish me with Thy free Spirit. Then shall I teach Thy ways unto the wicked: and sinners shall be converted unto Thee. Deliver me from blood-guiltiness, O God, Thou that art the God of my health: and my tongue shall sing of Thy righteousness. Thou shalt open my lips, O Lord: and my mouth shall shew [show] Thy praise. For Thou desirest no sacrifice, else would I give it Thee: but Thou delightest not in burnt-offerings. The sacrifice of God is a troubled spirit: a broken and contrite heart, O God, shalt Thou not despise. O be favourable and gracious unto Sion: build Thou the walls of Jerusalem. Then shalt Thou be pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, with the burnt-offerings and oblations: then shall they offer young bullocks upon Thine altar.”
Thank you..thank God that he can face our brokenness before Him. He doesn't turn His face away but opens His arms and say " I understand. It's ok. I've got you. I love you."

It was written by a RC Priest. - Stationed at the Vatican. Commissioned to write music for the Traditional Latin Rite of Mass. This is his rendering on Psalm 51 "King David's apology to God for having committed a most grievous sin.
Absolutely the most gorgeous thing ever that human do together. I love how all the voices blend together. The male voices are just divine. You forget that there are no instruments and then realise it's voices not violins. Just sublime!

The first time I heard this, I was 7 or 8 years old , when the artist behind the exhibition "Threshold to the Kingdom" (which uses this music) gave a workshop at my school. The haunting melody at 0:28 deeply affected my little 7/8-year-old self and it stayed with me for months. I had chills every time it came into my head and I remembered how beautiful it sounded with the power of a full choir behind it. But over the years it faded from my memory, and I never found out the name of the composer or the piece. Then, a couple of days ago, I was listening to a compilation of classical music while studying, when the chilling melody from my childhood suddenly sounded, and I stopped everything I was doing. It brought tears to my eyes as I heard it for the first time in 12 years. I can't express how happy I am to have found this incredible piece, along with the reminder that music is profoundly powerful.
but do you know of the man (King David) who wrote the original piece? (Psalm 51 - the Bible) and the God he wrote it to? if not, then ask Jesus Christ to reveal himself to you. You will discover the true beauty behind this piece.
That's so lovely and touching. I have had several experiences with music like that, and wonder if I will find out the name, will I ever hear it again, but it always finds a way back into my life, or I find it no matter what.
this brings me again and again peace in my heart. When there are inner storms, after a heavy day, after doubts and sorrows, pain and difficulties... this brings me peace and the message that God is mercy and LOVE;
when i hear this i imagine wandering around in heaven and that i am without pain ,fear,or anything else ,but i am complete with God with pure mind and soul ,for he is the powerhouse of life and love and righteousness
Just think that, you are a middle class merchant's child at Mozart's time, travelled a long distance to Vatican with your family and then you hear this beauty. If this is that impressive today, how impressive and majestic this was, to the ears of people that did not have the same chances as we do at those times.
One of the many Mozart myths, like the one about him being buried in a pauper’s grave. There were various transcriptions already in circulation - fact.

This takes us back to the uncontaminated era of music. Still resonates with our Soul. Today ,only noise ,insolent noise , suppressing the Soul and the Spirit.
You may not understand but the reason you love this is because you recognize beauty and goodness when you hear/see it. Why? Because you’re made in His image Whom is beauty and goodness itself. Listening to this is just a TINY glimpse of the beauty of what awaits in Heaven which is what most people long for even if they do not know it. There are standards in the world and we are told there shouldn’t be and that everything js equal in value to everything else. This is not true. You recognize that this is a masterpiece.
Hmm... 4 years has passed, to die in pace you'd better repent first, because this is all about in the "lyrics" of this piece, the music is "decorating" the psalm 51. which is all about repentance.

I remeber this being sung by my chamber choir some years ago and our solo soprano asked the conductor to transpose it a full tone higher because she felt the High D more comfortable to sing than the High C. She did it so amazing.
I think this is one of the best performances of the work on RUclips. So much depth and spirit in it. The girl singing the highest notes is also breath taking in her performance. So much controll in the singing, and som many hours behind rehersing the get to this level. All of them are amazing.
If you want to get transported to the world of the sublime, you can do no better than to treat your ears to this heavenly music. It gets me there every time.
DonDraperism Actually, he isn't necessarily calling out your religious beliefs. He was probably just pointing out that you said that you repented to God for all the things you have done, which implies you have wronged someone in your life. And before you say anything, if you believe you have done things that need to be repented in your life then you have wronged at least one person in your life, namely yourself. It's said that true forgiveness is born within. Anyone can pray for forgiveness from an anonymous power, but only the strongest people can bear to forgive themselves for their own misdeeds.
DonDraperism He doesn't seem angry in his post. He is simply asking you why you don't make amends for your sins rather than just ask for forgiveness. If those sins include having wronged people then making amends to them is more genuine form of repentance than asking someone you have not wronged for a morally clean slate that does nothing to repair damage you have caused.
AsSereneMonstersRest Maybe he hasn't wronged anyone apart from God. it's something that we all do every day, and there are very few who realise it and ask for forgiveness. It's a very, very relevant comment on a video of a song called, "Have mercy on me, Lord". Miserere mei, Deus.
Gracias Rudolf.
This has to be the quintessential recording. Every aspect is executed effortlessly up to and including every high C. I know of no other recording where you can fully absorb the atmosphere without being distracted by vocal nitpicking.
Jesus Christ is God in flesh. You have to accept him in your spirit your soul, he already pay the price for your sins. Go take the Free gift he gives you. And stop to hide yourself in your blind religion without any relationship with God. Accept the Mercy of Lord. Miserere mei Deus. Pslams 51.

Mr. Nobody I comprehend pretty much but for verification could and/or would you extent by an English clarification of Latin terminology. If so than thank you very much, if not then let it be. Nobody.
Wow. Most of us could enjoy singing in a choir and make some pretty good sounds, but this... is something else, on an entirely different level. Sublime!
I've always wanted to imagine if there were any music that could divinely heal the wounded or sick, to end anguish and mental suffering, the music would surely sound like this.
This beautiful sacred lament takes me back to my early years in our parish choir singing in Latin, especially during Easter Holy Week. It touches the inner soul and gives me goose bumps just listening.
Can't stop listening. Still mesmerized by the sacredness and beauty of this hymn. It seems to calm my very soul and all my worries ease. In God I learn to trust.
You got that right; we had three hour masses in Latin sung by monestary monks at Dons SCOTUS in Detroit both at Easter and Christmas. I still love hearing this music. It takes you to the netherworld especially if you believe in God; Jesus Christ; the Lord of the heavens; the stars; outer and inner space; Bhudda; Mohammad; Karnesch (me) all Yiddish and Jewish interpretations of the Torah and the most holy.

notice, as previously stated, there is no vibrato in the high notes sung by the Soprano (who is so beautiful here) , giving a honest and pure tone. The results for me, creates a divine sound. I love this so much! My ear holes love this.
Someone give that soprano a gold medal; she's amazing.
She sings like a treble - pure, without vibrato. An opera wannabe would destroy this song, but treble voices and treble-like voices really tug at the heartstrings on the high C.
And her name is Elin Manahan Thomas
I don't think you're correct; I believe that is Clare Wilkinson, from a number of years ago.

It does sound beautiful, but the angels of heaven will sound even more beautiful! This is the closest thing we can get to hearing angels sing
Possibly the best choral piece ever... Allegri must have gotten his inspiration directly from the celestial spheres.
must? cretainly!
Here I'm back again. Anyone else aswell? All the best for 2024!

For I am well aware of my faults, I have my sin constantly in mind
Tibi soli peccavi et malum, coram te feci: ut justificeris in sermonibus tuis, et vincas cum judicaris
Having sinned against none other than you, having done what you regard as wrong. You are just when you pass sentence on me, blameless when you give judgment
Ecce enim in iniquitatibus conceptus sum : et in peccatis concepit me mater mea
Ecce enim veritatem dilexisti : incerta et occula sapientiae tuae manifestasti mihi
You know I was born guilty, a sinner from the moment of conception
Yet, since you love sincerity of heart, teach me the secrets of wisdom
Asperges me hyssopo, et mundabor : lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor
Auditui meo dabis gaudium et laetitiam, et exsultabunt ossa humiliata
Purify me with hyssop until I am clean; wash me until I am whiter than snow
Instill some joy and gladness into me, let the bones you have crushed rejoice again
Averte faciem tuam a peccatis meis : et omnes iniquitates meas dele
Hide your face from my sins, wipe out all my guilt
Cor mundum crea in me, Deus : et spiritum rectum innova in visceribus meis
Ne projicias me a facie tua : et spiritum sanctum tuum ne auferas a me
Redde mihi laetitiam salutaris tui : et spiritu principali confirma me
God, create a clean heart in me, put into me a new and constant spirit
Do not banish me from your presence, do not deprive me of your holy spirit
Be my saviour again, renew my joy, keep my spirit steady and willing;
Docebo iniquos vias tuas : et impii ad te convertentur
Libera me de sanguinibus, Deus, Deus salutis meae : et exsultabit lingua mea justitiam tuam
Domine, labia mea aperies : et os meum annuntiabit laudem tuam
And I shall teach transgressors the way to you, and to you the sinners will return
Save me from death, God my saviour, and my tongue will acclaim your righteousness;
Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will speak out your praise
Quoniam si voluisses sacrificium, dedissem utique : holocaustis non dedectaberis
Sacrificium Deo spiritus contribulatus : cor contritum et humiliatum, Deus, non despicies
Sacrifice gives you no pleasure, were I to offer holocaust, you would not have it
My sacrifice is this broken spirit, you will not scorn this crushed and broken heart
Benigne fac, Domine, in bona voluntate tua Sion : ut ædificentur muri Jerusalem
Tunc acceptabis sacrificium justitiae, oblationes et holocausta: tunc imponent super altare tuum vitulos
Show your favour graciously to Zion, rebuild the walls of Jerusalem
Then there will be proper sacrifice to please you - holocaust and whole oblation - and young bulls to be offered on your altar

I truly believe some music was arranged in heaven for us humans and sent to earth to give us a glimpse of heaven. This piece is one of 'em. A gift from God.
Well I guess you can believe that but there isn't a shred of evidence to suggest it is true.
@@modelsteamers671 Maybe that could be the reason why it is called 'believe'. Just guessing though.

Yes, the phrasing, the dynamics and the tempo are marvellous, apart from the wonderful voices.
It's excellent. probably the only one I've heard to rival the 1980 Tallis Scholars version. Whoever managed the technical aspects of the recording is also to be greatly credited.

The Lyrics of this repentance song masterpiece in English is Psalm 51
“Have mercy upon me, O God: after Thy great goodness.
Thank you for your translation. It was most enlightening.

That's one of the most magnificent Christians' song ever written. Angels came down on earth.

That girl sounds like an angel. I just repented and asked God to forgive me for all the things I've done. Thank you.
Why don't you ask the person whom you wronged forgiveness, that would make more sense.
dawoeee who said I wronged anyone? Also what is it about belief in God that angers you?

Miserere mei, Deus: secundum magnam misericordiam tuam.
Et secundum multitudinem miserationum tuarum, dele iniquitatem meam.
Amplius lava me ab iniquitate mea: et a peccato meo munda me.
Asperges me hysopo, et mundabor: lavabis me, et super nivem dealbabor.
Auditui meo dabis gaudium et laetitiam: et exsultabunt ossa humiliata.
Averte faciem tuam a peccatis meis: et omnes iniquitates meas dele.
Cor mundum crea in me, Deus: et spiritum rectum innova in visceribus meis.
Ne proiicias me a facie tua: et spiritum sanctum tuum ne auferas a me.
Redde mihi laetitiam salutaris tui: et spiritu principali confirma me.
Gratias tibi*

Mr. Nobody
I comprehend pretty much but for verification could and/or would you extent by an English clarification of Latin terminology.
If so than thank you very much, if not then let it be.
Nobody.
It takes 5 second to find the answer in google...
thank you!
Wow. Most of us could enjoy singing in a choir and make some pretty good sounds, but this... is something else, on an entirely different level. Sublime!
Goosebumps and tears...thank you Lord...🙏💒🙏
I've always wanted to imagine if there were any music that could divinely heal the wounded or sick, to end anguish and mental suffering, the music would surely sound like this.
May the name of the Lord be praised now and forever.
Amen, brother!

*Extraordinary performances of this work, like this one, transport the listener to another world, the World of the Sublime.*
I still come back to this Work of Art and Discipline! Love it so much!
If I had to keep just one spiritual masterpiece, it would be this Allegri Miserere. It´s like the Angels singing.
notice, as previously stated, there is no vibrato in the high notes sung by the Soprano (who is so beautiful here) , giving a honest and pure tone. The results for me, creates a divine sound. I love this so much! My ear holes love this.
vibrato is honest and true..it is a natural event I can stop mine just for a little while ..to do so longer strains the chords
