It would have sounded very different - the higher voices of soprano or treble didn't exist back then, and so the top part were sung by men (countertenors)

the female soprano has phenomenal control over her voice and has outstanding power and support behind her voice. The way she hits that c6 so sharply and crisply is amazing!
actually this is transposed down half a note, it's a B5.
in my opinion it sounds darker and more full bodied in this key.
not nearly as pure and controlled as the sixteen in my opinion especially as it's transposed down
Suilven Mountain she has more control over her voice. She doesn't have the vibrato, it wasn't usual for this type of music. She can't blend with vibrato and she still hits it exactly, this means the control over voice is beyond amazing. On your mentioned version she has vibrato.

Still makes me cry every time. Fortunately this sublime piece of music survived through the centuries. That was effective PR from the Catholic Church indeed. Thanks to the nice group of Danes who interpret this masterpiece through their souls.
Musically the are superb but their diction is impecable. Too often in Latin based sung music one cannot make out the words. Here you can. BRAVO. There’s a maturity and professionalism here you cannot get in children’s choirs. Why talk about sin and the pain of living and hopes for redemption, when you have barely begun to live?
EXCELLENT performance!! Finally, sung like it's supposed to be; nice long full notes, pauses and rests. There's nothing rushed or cut off here!. Perfect diction, fantastic grasp of the language and pronounciation. Wonderful professionals, moving. Voices superbly chosen - especially the male tenors and baritones. GOOSEBUMPS!

Absolutely enchanting performance! I especially like 3:34, where you can hear each of the three angels' voices clearly, showing how different and talented they are. The camera pan showing each of them is perfect, followed by the powerful vibrato by the golden dress lady. Second is 10:23, when the soprano truly shines bright, like she is actually speaking the language powerfully. Amazing!

Listen to this wonderful music as a testimony of european culture. Nevertheless lots of modern german people complain Europe and specially Germany has no such culture. They should listen and study carefully instead of being ridiculous. Such wonderful music is a gift. Not to respect and honour such tradition only tells us, that some modern people are deaf and blind!
Who says Germany doesn’t have culture? Austria is where Mozart came from... he famously misbehaved and wrote down the music of Miserere after hearing it once at the Sistine Chapel

I listen to this every few weeks, carriers my away every time, not sure what it is, something more than the music.
I sang this song back few years ago. It's so wonderful. The music, the lyric from Psalm 51.. so touching yet meditative. Redemptive and comforting. What a blessed gift to humankind.

By far one of the best versions of this absolutely astounding masterpiece of a psalm penned by the fugue master himself, Gregorio Allegri. He must be smiling down at the absolutely awesome sopranista as she delivers those 'impossible' Cs with such delicate elegance!
You may even like the version of this psalm done by Irish choral group Anuna...it's absolutely stunning.

This performance doesn't get enough love with just under 400k views. I read that the 2 sopranos Ann-Christin and especially Hanna get a lot of the praise they deserve, but I have to point out how absolutely brilliant the rest of the ensemble is. Particularly Kristin Mulders, how she just nails it at 5:35 with her, I mean is this even still alt or is that contralto already? Beautiful. Also on my favourite list the bass, especially who I believe to be Thomas Kiørbye. I can't believe this rendition went under my radar for so long.
Glorious! Reminiscent of Gregorian Chant -- well what a surprise?! The difference is the addition of female voices. This is a wonderful blend of all voices! Bravo!
