You can only turn off your brain so much. It's one thing to suspend your disbelief but when a game doesn't even follow it's own logic that becomes and issue for me. Even putting aside it's terrible story the game straight up has other issues on purely a design level.
I'm torn. I wanna watch 6 hours of Jared but I know he doesn't care for KH and I don't know if it'll be a fun stream to see him play a game we know he most likely won't care for.

No thank you. Haven't seen the stream at all and don't plan to, what with Jared's attitude towards the series in the past and this game on Twitter. As I've said before, it's totally fine if he hates the series, to each their own. But just like with his Deltarune playthrough, it's not fun in the slightest watching someone play something they completely hate, and not even in a rage game/horribly bad game way (a la Getting Over It/Sonic 06). I just really want Jared to stay away from the series from now on (as well as any other game/series he knows he's gonna hate). It just makes for an overall unpleasant ride for both himself and those of us who love the series.
But for people that don't like the series it's satisfying, almost vindicating. It's good to see the other side of the coin sometimes. It helps you to make an even stronger opinion of your own.

Except that making a self aware joke yet not actually learning anything means the joke doesn't work. Being aware of a behavior but not fixing it means the person making the joke isn't making fun of themselves. It means they're making fun of you for putting up with said behavior. Which should be pretty obvious they intend to keep taking the fanbase through it's convoluted rides.
It's 10000000000000000% NOT a meta joke. It was something that was already in Kingdom Hearts 0.2 (which is a part of the 2.8 HD collection). The ending scene of that shows the exact same logo. They're basically just calling the opening section of the game "Kingdom Hearts 2.9" because "it's not really Kingdom Hearts 3 until he gets the new outfit" or whatever cause when he gets the new outfit is when they show the actual Kingdom Hearts 3 logo.

That's one nitpick I had about the kingdom hearts finishers . Half of them are stationary , and move the bosses away from the center of the finishers . Flashy waste of time in most cases . I found myself rarely using the finishers .
I liked this series but have not enjoyed this game. His criticisms are justified. Fan or not, this was the WEAKEST of the series, even with nostalgia blindness for the other titles. As a fan of the thing, it is OKAY to not like a game. People need to stop identifying so closely with the games they play and getting buttmad when someone doesn't like it.
I agree. I am not a fan of the game but I hate that when i criticize it, the fans are saying im saying mean comments and just being down. I have a hard time with any game with a convoluted story. I myself am glad they put this out for the fans but i blame this on Nomura. He is an absolute great character designer but I am not a fan of his writing in games. Its ok to like it, its ok to not but its not ok to be butt hurt because people disagree and don't like your games. I get it we love the games we love but its also ok for people to not. I liked KH 1, and also 2 I guess, but I totally agree with Jared's complaints with this one. I really am disappointed with this game. It should have been better than this.
Easily the worst. My roommate who is a huge KH fan has been majorly underwhelmed. He was having way more fun with 2. This just feels awkward, stilted and the gameplay is repetitive and dull. When half the game iscut scenes, and the cut scenes are objectivley bad and at times contribute nothing, it's an issue.

Jared hates the entire series. Even more so because the time he was first vocal about disliking it, it actually hurted his subscriber count back when he first started (he cites this as the reason he didn't make a review of KH in the same way he did the Sonic Adventure 2 one).
kingdom hearts 3 is a movie with bits of game in it, theres more waiting in cutscenes than playing the game, and all those attractions and things are put so often it kills the gameplay beause it makes it so damn easy

man Jared looks so done with this game lol. certainly gonna just skim and see his reactions on some of the best parts of the game. as somewhat a new fan of the series ( played the two collections to fully catch up to 3), it is certainly one of the weakest in the franchise. most of it is fine but its so damn easy even on proud. The worlds feel disconnected to the main plot, and all the big moments people want is jammed into the end of the story which, albeit cool, is poorly structured. everything leading up to the final battle felt like a very small ramp of progression. 3 does not feel like the big finale, KH2 felt like the biggest finale in comparison with the amount of world's, drive forms, progression, and replayability. the combat is fun, but again easy. they nerfed the flow motion but in turn have the very strong keyblade forms and attractions which are OP as hell. With all this said, i am actually excited for the next KH game because of a new start (dont have to worry about catching up now), happy for one of my favorite character, and interested in seeing where the hell its going

Apparently KH3 was made by a different team and a lot of the game was scrapped in the middle of working on when they decided to use a new game engine. I was really hoping there was going to be closer and kingdom hearts was going to be a trilogy. But sadly no, the ending just leaves more questions to market yet another game that fans have to wait for frustratingly. Shame on Square
I like seeing jared play this, because I found the cutscenes horribly slow, long, unnecessary and badly acted while the gameplay portion are short and repetitive, but everyone else acts like everything is perfect just to justify investing so much time and interest on the series.
tbh it’s the past few (bbs, ddd, and this one) that feels kinda hollow in gameplay? lh1 and kh2 has very fun and snappy gameplay and better pacing for story, which is what i loves and hopes future titles would have been the same
Jared, Thanks for suffering through this for me. I want to like this series, I do, but this story makes it hard to like. I also hear that there is almost zero final fantasy which was my draw to the other series. That and on top of it the battle system seems , like you said, flash over substance. I hope fans enjoy this but man its hard for me to understand how people follow this story. It's at least pretty to watch.
this game seems poorly paced and written, even for a kingdom hearts game. The flat angles, the lack of music in cut scenes, the fading to black everytime, and it seems incredibly unfocused and meandering in a way I don't remember the other ones feeling... but hey, if it's fun to play right? Actually the toy story cast did surprisingly good, compared to the others
Man, I remember liking Kingdom Hearts when I was younger. I was considering jumping back in with KHIII (and getting a summary of the plot so far from somewhere), but hoo boy. The combat doesn't look nearly as fun as the first game with all the context sensitive triangle super moves constantly available, I watched this whole first episode and the plot seems simultaneously far too complex yet insipid, and you really landed on the point that was bothering me the whole time when you hit Toy Story- The Disney characters don't actually seem all that much like the Disney characters. Their actions and attitudes are so generic, and could be applied to pretty much anyone. The only thing making them stand out is the occasional one-liner or reference to their own series'. I'm so glad I watched this before I took the dive and bought the game. Saved me $60.
I fell off with the franchise in the post-BBS years and have no interest in picking this one up myself, but this should be an entertaining watch for a little bit. His least favorite, huh? This is gonna be a thing. Lol.

Intro sequence just confirms that KH1 had the best full soundtrack in the series. The Awakening version of "Destati" is legendary at this point.

As a fan of the thing, it is OKAY to not like a game. People need to stop identifying so closely with the games they play and getting buttmad when someone doesn't like it.
I agree. I am not a fan of the game but I hate that when i criticize it, the fans are saying im saying mean comments and just being down. I have a hard time with any game with a convoluted story. I myself am glad they put this out for the fans but i blame this on Nomura. He is an absolute great character designer but I am not a fan of his writing in games. Its ok to like it, its ok to not but its not ok to be butt hurt because people disagree and don't like your games. I get it we love the games we love but its also ok for people to not. We all need to not be so uptight and respect everyone's opinions.

I liked KH 1, and also 2 I guess, but I totally agree with Jared's complaints with this one. I really am disappointed with this game. It should have been better than this.
Easily the worst. My roommate who is a huge KH fan has been majorly underwhelmed. He was having way more fun with 2. This just feels awkward, stilted and the gameplay is repetitive and dull. When half the game iscut scenes, and the cut scenes are objectivley bad and at times contribute nothing, it's an issue.
@@Obstreperous_Octopus Its not one of those hype things either it's just the story elements are like that of a fans writing in their sporadic nature. "Oh remember this guy, OH AND THIS GUY?!" They really screwed it up. Also fighting them and winning in such a easy manner does not feel right in the previous hype made for them in the story.

Jared hates the entire series. Even more so because the time he was first vocal about disliking it, it actually hurted his subscriber count back when he first started (he cites this as the reason he didn't make a review of KH in the same way he did the Sonic Adventure 2 one).

kingdom hearts 3 is a movie with bits of game in it, theres more waiting in cutscenes than playing the game, and all those attractions and things are put so often it kills the gameplay beause it makes it so damn easy

man Jared looks so done with this game lol. certainly gonna just skim and see his reactions on some of the best parts of the game. as somewhat a new fan of the series ( played the two collections to fully catch up to 3), it is certainly one of the weakest in the franchise. most of it is fine but its so damn easy even on proud. The worlds feel disconnected to the main plot, and all the big moments people want is jammed into the end of the story which, albeit cool, is poorly structured. everything leading up to the final battle felt like a very small ramp of progression. 3 does not feel like the big finale, KH2 felt like the biggest finale in comparison with the amount of world's, drive forms, progression, and replayability. the combat is fun, but again easy. they nerfed the flow motion but in turn have the very strong keyblade forms and attractions which are OP as hell.
With all this said, i am actually excited for the next KH game because of a new start (dont have to worry about catching up now), happy for one of my favorite character, and interested in seeing where the hell its going

Apparently KH3 was made by a different team and a lot of the game was scrapped in the middle of working on when they decided to use a new game engine. I was really hoping there was going to be closer and kingdom hearts was going to be a trilogy. But sadly no, the ending just leaves more questions to market yet another game that fans have to wait for frustratingly. Shame on Square

I like seeing jared play this, because I found the cutscenes horribly slow, long, unnecessary and badly acted while the gameplay portion are short and repetitive, but everyone else acts like everything is perfect just to justify investing so much time and interest on the series.
tbh it’s the past few (bbs, ddd, and this one) that feels kinda hollow in gameplay? lh1 and kh2 has very fun and snappy gameplay and better pacing for story, which is what i loves and hopes future titles would have been the same
Jared, Thanks for suffering through this for me. I want to like this series, I do, but this story makes it hard to like. I also hear that there is almost zero final fantasy which was my draw to the other series. That and on top of it the battle system seems , like you said, flash over substance. I hope fans enjoy this but man its hard for me to understand how people follow this story. It's at least pretty to watch.
this game seems poorly paced and written, even for a kingdom hearts game. The flat angles, the lack of music in cut scenes, the fading to black everytime, and it seems incredibly unfocused and meandering in a way I don't remember the other ones feeling... but hey, if it's fun to play right?

Man, I remember liking Kingdom Hearts when I was younger. I was considering jumping back in with KHIII (and getting a summary of the plot so far from somewhere), but hoo boy. The combat doesn't look nearly as fun as the first game with all the context sensitive triangle super moves constantly available, I watched this whole first episode and the plot seems simultaneously far too complex yet insipid, and you really landed on the point that was bothering me the whole time when you hit Toy Story- The Disney characters don't actually seem all that much like the Disney characters. Their actions and attitudes are so generic, and could be applied to pretty much anyone. The only thing making them stand out is the occasional one-liner or reference to their own series'.
I'm so glad I watched this before I took the dive and bought the game. Saved me $60.
