I’m not sure if I played everything correctly but just did it for fun. 3 guitar tracks recorded no post processing. Thanks for watching ! #metallica #gibson
For those who are wondering: This song is entitled Escape from Metallica's second album ride the lightning. I think one of the reasons James hates this song is because the song itself was too commercial for him and he was forced to make it less aggressive so the press can air it on radio. Tbh the song itself isn't really that bad but when you compare it to other Metallica songs, it's easy to see why James didn't like this particular song. Edit: this may be the most controversial comment I've ever wrote. Like bro the people in the reply section needs to calm down cause this is just my own opinion that should not offend anyone or be taken seriously. Btw thanks for all the likes. Really appreciate it guys 2nd edit: for those of you who complain about the fact that they turned commercial after AJFA, it's really self explanatory because if they sticked with their aggressiveness and speed that they had in their pre black album eras then they wouldn't be as famous as they are today. I'm not saying that their first four albums are very unnecessary, rather they were smart enough (also props to bob rock) to go commercial in order to extend from being an underground metal band to being as famous and iconic as acdc or queen.
@@kingkongballs1574 I’ve actually heard James really likes this song he just feels it’s there younger phase and that less people know it, they’ve jammed it a couple times and i know Kirk has said he likes it, but the lyrics easily show to me that James cares about the song, Either way the doomy break down mixed with the sick verses and chorus is forever sick! Ofc imo it’s the worst song on the album, but that’s just how good the album is lol
Never understood the hate for this song. IMOO it belongs totally in the album. I like the riffs, I like the transitions, I like the mood. 100% vintage Metallica.
I knew which song that would be from the title. It could either be this or Eye of The Beholder. Your tone, and mixing is amazing! This calls for a complete cover.
It was Lars that didn't like Eye of the Beholder, because it sounds like "two different worlds rubbing up against each other" (whatever that means). EDIT: To be clear, I don't hate Eye of the Beholder; in fact, it's probably within my top four songs from Justice. I'm just explaining why Lars doesn't like the song (not that I necessarily agree with him).

“Life’s for my own to live my own way” morphed pretty neatly into “life is ours, we live it our way” - This song’s almost a precursor to Nothing Else Matters.
Escape was written as a filler track on RTL but also as an attempt to get radio play and potentially become the bands single for the album. They already had some of the riffs for the song written, the reason James hates this song is because he felt rushed and forced into writing something that he didn’t put his heart into and it doesn’t sound like the rest of the album speed or “riff” wise. At the end of the day, Escape is still on my top 5 list.
Seems like Fade To Black would've been used for a hit single on the radio. It had the perfect sound. It sounds like a ballad for RTL. Starts out mellow winds up an epic long jam. To me it sounds like the hit on the album.
@@thomasbrown2465 the lyrical content unfortunately probably made that not possible. But, it’s one of their quintessential songs now. So I think it ended up working out for them in the long run.
@@thomasbrown2465 fade to black is about suicide being an actual release from pain because it is about cancer killing you and there being nothing more you can do about it. Its not a radio friendly topic.
Escape isn't at the same level of the other tracks on Ride The Lightning, but this song is actually so damn good, great harmonies, great riffs and a great solo
Well played, friend! I am composed entirely of envy for your guitar. I've wanted an Explorer since I was little, and it looks and sounds as great as I imagined!
Its a decent song but I wouldn't go so far as to call it a masterpiece. Especially compared to other tracks on the album. There's a reason James hates this particular song.
It'd be interesting to see them revisit this song and make it how they wanted it to be. I think the Melodies are solid and the riffs while dialed back have a good bone
Sounds great! only mark against is chorus melody end note is held a beat (or so) too long and clashes with the chord on top. Great tone though, what are you playing through?
Beautiful tone. It's not hate to the song itself, but more the reason why it was composed. At least that's what I believe. Again, beautiful tone. What's your rig?

The ironic part is that every song on the Black Album is way more commercial than "Escape".
Yeah, it's the only song they wrote in the studio at that point.
