This little kitchen and all the details you did was the most beautiful little kitchen I’ve seen. So nice to see and hear a fellow Canadian do a work around that was affordable as the shipping is ridiculous or options are limited.
Amber I had no idea you made those wooden pantry foods!!! I literally thought they were bought at one of those high end kids toy stores!!! So incredible!!
I love this! My son is into copying every thing we do and loves "cooking" with small mix bowls when I'm in the kitchen. We saw this kitchen play set this weekend and are planning on getting it for his birthday. Now we can spruce it up to match our kitchen! Thanks for this video!!!!
That's so sweet! He will be cooking you guys dinner in no time :) Good luck with your tiny kitchen makeover - it really is so fun. I'm glad this video could inspire you!
@@LittleReesorHouse putting together my 2-year old’s play kitchen together and you’ve inspired me to go crazy with it. Your little one’s reaction was priceless. Thank you for sharing it.
This video was so very inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing. You are truly an artist. As a new mom, I teared up watching her see it for the first time. I am working on my own DIY for my two year old
This is the cutest and classiest little kitchen I've ever seen! I hope my future kid is going to like cooking because they're getting one of these either way 😂
This is so incredible Amber. I’m so proud of you for using your God-given passion to make this diy kitchen your very own beautiful gift for a very blessed little girl. What a sweet Christmas memory to cherish too
My daughter turned 13 on Dec 27th so I don't know what my excuse would be, but I really want to makeover a play kitchen now! Great project, great video, excellent job.
Omgggg I'm completely obsessed. My dad sent this exact kitchen set for Christmas and I have watch countless videos and diys of how I want it to look. I also have been slowly thrifting things too!!😂 Im definitely inspired and love your color pallets.
Thank you! It was definitely a special moment to see her reaction to it. I created it nearly a year and a half ago and she still uses it nearly every day, so it was well worth the effort 🥰
It turned out SO beautiful! I especially love the time you took to thrift items for the kitchen and the little food boxes you made. I have this same kitchen on my DIY list. I love the versatility of this one and the space for storage underneath. My daughter is about 18 months - how do you feel the size of the SPISIG has been as your little girl has grown? We live in a small home so I love the idea of it being smaller, but I don't want her to outgrow it too quick!
Thank you! :) I just checked out your channel and I can only imagine how adorable your DIY version would turn out! I think the SPISIG would be a good model if you have a smaller space. I love that you can do the back of it too and make it into a little shop or cafe so it's really versatile for them to play with. My daughter is almost 2.5 years old now and she still plays with it every single day.
Yours turned out sooo cute, Amber! I found a duktig kitchen on the side of the road in my neighbourhood in March that had some serious stickers all over it haha but I took it on as a fun DIY project and gave it to Kai for his 1st birthday! He LOVES it. It is one of the things he plays with the most.. we taught him how to 'sauté' 😂 and we affectionately call him our little chef. I cannot believe you made the little food items - SO FREAKIN CUTE!! You are brave to give her ceramic things though, hahah those would be broken in this house in an hour!
That's amazing - such a great find and idea! It's so cute how quickly they pick on how to use the little kitchens based on how they watch you cook in an actual kitchen. Mabel has always loved play food so I knew it would be a hit, but it definitely blew me away when she walked right up to it and grabbed a spoon and started stirring. I love that Kai can sauté - haha! As for the ceramic dishes, I was a little nervous, but she has definitely always been very careful and particular so I thought she could probably handle it and since they are from the thrift store I figured I could just replace them if I need to. We have had a couple of broken plates, but otherwise, so far, so good! :)
Thank you! 🥰 I haven’t yet, but I’m thinking of doing one as my daughter’s Christmas gift this year. She loves Calico Critters so it would be fun to make a little home for them!
Hi! Would you consider linking the labels for the wooden foods that you made? I'd love to do this project for my little one eventually, you did such a fantastic job! 🤗🤗
Hi! Thank you! I just published a post on my blog with the pantry play food tutorial and a free printable label file. I had trouble with the paint adhering to the ceramic accessories I thrifted. Any recommendations? Not sure if it’s the paint I used or something I didn’t do right.
Hi Vianey! You could try using a bit of fine-grit sandpaper to scuff up the shiny finish on your ceramic pieces before applying paint. Sometimes the surface is just too slick and by roughing it up just slightly, it gives your paint something to stick too. A few other options you could try are to use multiple very thin coats of paint to build up the coverage, giving the paint lots of drying time to cure (72 hours) before using it, or using a textured paint by adding baking soda to your standard paint before applying. I hope one of these ideas works for you!
Thanks Lauren! I found the wooden kids cooking utensils on Amazon. This is the link for US Amazon (Fox Run Kids Cooking/Baking Tools Set www.amazon.com/dp/B003D2K8MM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_E01YB7Z4ZWA1299RSKBX). The Canadian link is in the description. If you are referring to the little wooden spoons though, they came with the coffee maker set. I haven’t had much luck finding individual kid’s wooden cutlery sets before. I hope that helps!
Hi! I’m currently doing a DIY on a kids kitchen now from ikea ( thanks to you!!) I’m having an issue with the paint peeling off in strips, but I didn’t prime- was this an issue for you at all? Many thanks!
That's so exciting to hear - it's such a fun project to get creative with! I didn't have any issues with peeling, but I did give mine a coat of primer before applying the colour. The slick surface of the laminate is likely making it hard for your paint to grip onto. It helps if you give the entire surface a quick scuff sand (use a 120 grit sandpaper and you can even do it by hand) and apply a coat of primer first before painting. My daughter has used her kitchen regularly for the past 10 months and it barely has any chipping and no peeling, so I think it's worth it to prime. I hope that helps and good luck! :)
Hi! Unfortunately, because of licensing regulations on typefaces, I can't distribute the original AI file. If you have access to Illustrator, you could open the PDF file in that program and use it as a template to trace the shapes and recreate the labels in your desired colours, though. I'm sorry, I wish I could be more helpful in this regard, but I hope you can understand!
I have a God sister she is 1 year's old and I've been looking at kitchens for her since her parents are moving into a bigger house for them (they haven't found any houses yet still looking!) And I found one that would be Good for her (haven't got it yet) I'm thinking about painting it and I'm not sure what type colors? I kinda don't want it to be childish because she may want to play with it when she's older!
That’s such a nice idea to make one over for your God sister. I’d suggest just keeping it fairy neutral and you can always use fun and colourful accessories. Then if she ever outgrows the colours, they’re pretty easy to switch out.
Ok ok… it’s about a year in how’s the kitchen holding up? May I add it turned out amazing but you already know that so I have an ikea kitchen sitting away time to pull that baby out and recreate. 👍
That’s a great question! Almost a year later, I can honestly say that my daughter uses it nearly every single day and it still looks just the same. There are no scratches or chips in the paint. She has broken a couple of the thrifted dishes, but otherwise, it’s still in great condition! You should definitely pull yours out and see what you can create with it. The possibilities are endless and it’s really fun to personalize it. I’d love to see what you do with yours once you’re finished 😊
